I gues this goes back in time, maybe the first Eurpeans the Chinese came into contact with had 'red hair'..redhead; and thus 'ang mo'...in the past, the Chinese refer to any race that was not Chinese with the additional word of 'kwai" or "kwee" whichever dialects one is from & only from recent times it had faded entirely; in the 1970's it was still prevalent.
"ang mo kwee" red hair devil
" kek leng kwee" or "hak kwai" Indian or dark devil
" ma lai kwee or kwai" Malay devil
etc..
Nowdays the word "ang moh" is considered polite...

Calling caucasians ang moh or Gwei loh (cantonese) or farangs (Thais) or Orang Puteh (Malay), are just a matters of expression cos we are used to those words since young. I don't think most are us are particularly intimated or trying to sound degratory when we used those words. TS is thinking too much.
Use like when he use the word "chxx bye", it just means vagina. No particular undertone expect the word to describe vagina. Just like ang moh call vagina ~ pussy!
