We all choose a road in our lives. Robert Frost might have chosen the road less traveled, but it seems that the Worker's Party has chosen an interesting sort of road - a road paved with lies and deceit.

Let's recap PAP's series of lies and deception:
1) Lie 1 - NCMP is same as MP and can represent electorate as well. MP can vote, NCMP cannot.
2) Lie 2 - Desmond claims he is independent and can be a better alternative voice than an opposition MP. Opposition MP has issues with income inequality, housing scheme, MRT, road development, foreigner influx, cost of living issues and a political system where 40% of votes have only 7% voice, a mockery of democracy. Unless he declares he can represent the electorate in all these and will break off all ties with his party he is giving false promises.
3) Lie 3 - by saying that Png must be the best for WP, implies that Desmond is their best candidate to represent the people in Hougang. Desmond has the worst electoral results of all previous PAP candidates in Hougang. How can he be the best? There are several who are better qualified than him, namely GY, OYK etc, all ministerial capability. Why not nominate one of them?
4) Lie 4 - By harping on YSL's impropriety implies that PAP does not have candidates who have bad character. Pritam and many forummers have pointed out several examples not only for poor personal conduct which is YSL's problem but criminal offences as well, supported by actual court sentences.
5) Lie 5 - Misleading the electorate that lift upgrading is only possible with a PAP MP in place. Hougang is already the last in the programme for upgrading and it is the constitutional duty of the government after collecting tax from everyone to complete this programme with or without a PAP MP in place.
6) Lie 6 - The loss of the wet market is a problem of WP and the re-instatement of a market will be a credit to PAP. PAP was the one who took away the wet market and the re-instatement of the market can best be viewed as a self-serving plan to get elected, not for the people's interest. If it is for the people's benefits, it will be built regardless.
7) Lie 7. Voting in a PAP MP is a good thing for Hougang electorate because it serves their personal interest. From the above six lies, there is actually no personal interest to gain from voting in a PAP MP. Instead the Hougang electorate will be viewed with contempt from a large portion of the population together with generations of their descendants to come.

Is Png's "personal stand" more important than the people of Hougang?
Are the people of Hougang's needs subordinate to Png's "personal stand".
Is Png standing for election for the people of Hougang or for himself?

Yes, if PAP really cares about the best person filling the respective positions, then they should dismantle all the GRCs.

Png should have retorted, if he really felt there was need to reply, that he was not the best candidate for Hougang. By the same token, TCH is also not the best candidate for Pasir Ris Ponggol GRC because the GRCs and many other hurdles put up by the PAP are there to ensure that the best candidates would never be there for the job.

The issue is whether Png was telling the truth to the people of Hougang - not about GRC.
Shouldn't change the target after you missed it.

WP should just ask PAP to revert all seats to SMC. Do away with the useless NMP and NCMP schemes. Fight cleanly. Tell PAP not to play dirty.

I think it is not about exploiting a "weakness".
It's about seeking the truth - whether Png was telling the truth to the people of Hougang.

I agree that Png Eng Huat needs to clarify and explain.

If you miss the target, you should hold your hand up and say you missed. Attempting to change the goalposts only makes a person (especially a politician) appear shifty. To be honest I am impressed by neither the PAP nor the WP. Both have been disappointing. There is a glaring lack of real political talent in Singapore. If only the opposition was more united, because there are some talented individuals in SDP and NSP that might work well in a team with WP.

And to be totally frank, I believe that someone like Glenda Han would have made a better candidate than Png Eng Huat. He lacks charisma and his performance during the rally was only average. Desmond Choo is more charismatic, the only thing is that most suspect (myself included) that he will not be able to do anything as long as he is constrained by the PAP Party Whip.

Look at the time stamp. The message was posted before minutes of the meeting were leaked.

In the first place, Png should not have made that statement about his stand against NCMP scheme and the omission of his name from the ballot. That was my message.

The issue as to whether Png is telling the truth is subsequent to the statement being made.

Agreed, JBJ was great at wriggling out of a difficult situation against LKY, but eventually he was pinned down. Lawyer vs lawyer.
CST was an unassuming honest MP and said Shoot me lah, I am here - no bullet-proof vest; and then smiled and said the shooter is a great man. He survived for almost 30 years in parliament.
CSJ was different. Almost immediately he threw stones at everyone he sees. He makes more enemies than friends.

I disagree. Png Eng Huat gave a surprisingly good account of himself at the first rally, hitting several solid points. Desmond is just like any young man today following a formulaic way of speaking. There is no creativity there. Those who serve their NS can understand what I mean by formulaic. Whether it is a Corporal, a SGT or a Platform Commander, they have a formulaic way of making a presentation. You say that us good?
