Png: 'I took my name out of NCMP list

If sakali he wins, then the storyline will change - simple as that. In politics, there are many cocks and bulls out there!

The biggest of all bull is a PAP MP can represent the opposition view better than an Opposition MP period.

Look at the time stamp. The message was posted before minutes of the meeting were leaked.

In the first place, Png should not have made that statement about his stand against NCMP scheme and the omission of his name from the ballot. That was my message.

The issue as to whether Png is telling the truth is subsequent to the statement being made.

I respond to the comments as I go down the thread - it should be sequential - time wise.

Sometimes it's better to hold your gun. They called it "appreciation of the ground situation" first.
Let the opponent reveals their weapons; then let the opponent exhausts their ammunition.

Png showed a weapon that is an obvious dud.

Yes Yes Yes! Sometimes it's better to check up the dictionary first before you give English lesson. Don't do a self-pwned. :D

teo cheebye hean,

is this BE about contetsing for a NCMP or MP post? why the hell you keep harping on the NCMP issue :oIo:

Same logic applies :

Former Minister Lim Chee Onn was

someone 1st choice to be PM or

something ...

The issue is whether Png was telling the truth to the people of Hougang
The issue is NOT whether Png was telling the truth to the people of Hougang. The issue is who the Hougang people thinks which party is more honest.

SINGAPORE: The Workers' Party (WP) Secretary-General Low Thia Khiang has urged voters not to be distracted by recent events.

Mr Low said they were made to "intentionally damage the party" and "sabotage" its candidate for the Hougang by-election Png Eng Huat.

Mr Low was speaking on Tuesday evening at the party's second rally for the by-election.

Mr Low confirmed that the leaked minutes of WP meeting to decide on the post of the Non-Constituency MP are genuine.

Mr Low said he does not want to speculate how anonymous sources obtained the minutes.

But he also confirmed what Mr Png has said about not being interested in the NCMP post.

Producing the NCMP ballot paper on stage, Mr Low said all the names of the East Coast GRC team members were considered for the post.

"This is the ballot which I prepared, with all the names of the team on the ballot paper. Png Eng Huat had told me before and after the General Election that he was strongly against the NCMP scheme and had not wanted to be considered for the NCMP position, just as Eric Tan had told me of his desire to be NCMP. However I still listed the names of the whole East Coast GRC team, because they were all part of the team."

He added that even though Mr Png had said he did not want to be considered, the selection lay solely with the Central Executive Committee (CEC).

Mr Png had one vote to his name.

Mr Low said this shows that the party functions on a collective leadership.

"In fact, I would invite all of you to take a look at the minutes (of the meeting to decide on the NCMP post). It shows that the Workers' Party functions in a fair and transparent manner where decisions are made collectively. In addition, it also dispels rumours that the CEC is made up of all 'yes' men and women or even fully controlled by Low Thia Khiang. In this case, the CEC was not unanimous in its decision," said Mr Low.

"Png Eng Huat had previously stated his position on NCMP to me and some other members of of the CEC but he still got one vote; the majority voted for Gerald Giam. When the voting result was concluded, only Eric Tan decided to resign; the other members stayed united on course with the Workers' Party. This shows that the Workers' Party is a credible party and can embrace different opinions while working together as a team and moving forward," added Mr Low.

The WP secretary-general said he stands by what he said when he introduced Mr Png as a man of integrity.

Speaking at the same rally, WP chairman Sylvia Lim also backed Mr Png. She said that if Mr Png is elected as an MP, she will appoint him as vice-chairman of the Aljunied-Hougang Town Council.

Mr Png took the opportunity to list out his plans for Hougang residents if he is elected. They include improving the estate maintenance and community events for youths.

The next Workers' Party rally is expected on Thursday, a day before the Cooling-off Day when no campaigning is allowed.

Choo

PAP candidate Desmond Choo (Yahoo! photo)

34-year old Choo has long been a member of Singapore’s labour movement.

In his current post at the National Trades Union Congress, he deals with issues related to wages, community engagement and labour market monitoring. He is also concurrently the executive secretary of the Union of Security Employees and of the Singapore Shell Employees Union.

Prior to NTUC, he had served in various roles in the Singapore Police Force and Ministry of Manpower. Choo was the deputy commander at Clementi Police Division from 2009 to 2010.

Before his appointment as the Second Adviser to Hougang Grassroots Organisations in February 2011, he had worked extensively in the Marsiling and Tampines East constituencies.

In Hougang, he has initiated a healthcare scheme to benefit poor residents, and coffee sessions for residents to be directly involved in building their community.

Choo studied in Ai Tong Primary School, Catholic High School and National Junior College. He was awarded the SPF Overseas Merit Scholarship in 1997 to study Economics at the University of Chicago.

He is married to Pamela Lee.

The PAP candidate lost to then Workers’ Party Yaw Shin Leong in last year’s General Elections (GE), as he garnered just 35.2 per cent of the votes -- the lowest share of votes by a PAP candidate in the constituency.

Has the Braddell Brothel acquired Yahoo! Singapore?

What "has long been a member of Singapore’s labour movement." is Yahoo! farting about?

DC was by design going to be a 'high flyer' within the SPF. Plans were derailed when a relative had a brush with the law. Anyone familiar with SPF protocols would tell you once a relative (esp. those of senior officers) is tainted with a criminal record, your ascension thru the ranks would stop, in plain langauage, he was 'condemned' and therefore had no choice but to leave SPF. I stand corrected.

Desmond Choo is nephew of Choo Wee Khiang. This is what people should know about Choo Wee Khiang, to get to know more about PAP's selection process. And what the former PAP MP did, and question why he was given the post of STTA president even after he was caught for cheating:

SINGAPORE: Former Member of Parliament Choo Wee Khiang has been charged in court with three counts of corruption and one of criminal breach of trust.

The amounts involved total about S$10,600. The offences were allegedly committed during Choo's tenure as the president of the Singapore Table Tennis Association (STTA).

The Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB) said it received several anonymous complaints against Choo from 2005 to 2007 alleging that he had charged his personal airfares, expenses, phone bills to STTA and received gifts from Chinese coaches and players.

Acting on the information received, the CPIB conducted an investigation which revealed that in 2005, Choo had received S$1,500 from Liu Zhongze, who was then a national team player, and Luo Jie, who was then an assistant coach of the STTA, in return for giving Liu more opportunities to represent the STTA in table tennis tournaments.

Investigations also revealed that between 2003 and 2004, Choo is believed to have accepted US$600 on two separate occasions from Shi Mei Sheng, who was then a STTA coach. This was allegedly his reward for approving the use of two different training facilities in China.

Ah Choo worked in MOM and currently in NTUC. How come he did not protect the low income workers and allow their salaries to stagnate for past 10 years ? Only through Prof Lim that Singaporeans know that their salary level was 50% of similar job position in Hongkong.
If an unionist cannot work for the interests of the workers, then HOW CAN HE WORK FOR THE INTERESTS OF THE RESIDENTS AS THEIR MP??

Haven't received her resume yet. Enough of this court jestering.

Enough truths - or rather lies - have been said about the Png's scandal. Let's move on.

These 2 sentences in this reply contradict on what you want me to do.
You want her resume or to move on?

hahaha....this is a classic case of trying to dig out of a hole...
nothing is achieved and more questions will be raise....and the more you wriggle, the deeper the hole becums.
hahaha....the hole has really gotten deeper now......so it will only be harder to get out of it unscathed.....
the actual situation/process and what wp initially tried to brush off is not the same.....
the smoking gun is the leaked mom....
this could have been a small matter but if wp chose to engage...it must get its facts (not opinions) right...
in the final analysis, this is another example of the subborness of ltk/sl....
since png has explicitly expressed that he is against the ncmp scheme, why force him to take part?
what if png was chosen???
does he have to resign from wp in protest/or sacked for not following the decision of the cec????
