WP's Png Eng Huat: His Lies and the Truth

WP's candidate Png Eng Huat mentioned in the Straits Times today, page A6 that he did not want to the NCMP seat. He claimed that he had made it clear before the GE as he was against the scheme.

"i do not wish for a government to dictate on the number and type of opposition members we can have in Parliament...I had already made it clear to the Secretary-General (Low Thia Kiang) as well as the East Coast tea, that I would not want to be considered.."

But that was not the truth...Images of what seems to be minutes of the extraordinary WP meeting surfaced showing that Png's name was included in the secret ballot to determine the NCMP. Worst of all, he had recieved a drubbing recieving only 1 vote - probably his by the way showing not only that he was not the preferred choice but also the confidence his team mates has on him as a representative.

Why has Png lied? Is he trying to hide the result of the election as it underlines his capability as a representative? Seems like "flip-flopping" one's position seems to be a character trait in all WP members these days.

Png wants Hougang residents to send him to parliament but they need to know the following:

1. Why has Png lied about his participation in the secret ballow?

2. Why did he recieve only 1 vote? Compared to the other WP members, is he really that bad?

3. What assurance do Hougang residents have that Png is capable when he is clearly not even recognised to be better than Gerald and Eric?

4. Why weren't the other members of the East Coast WP team in the ballot? Were these 3 the only interested folks in the NCMP seat? Then why did Png say that he did not agree with the NCMP scheme and did not want to be considered?

5. Low Thia Kiang mentioned that the Party is united but the minutes clearly show fault-lines. Is WP imploding from within?

Perhaps WP should consider addressing these issues in their fiery rally speeches rather than fluff and cheap shots that seem to decorate their speeches.

Trust me, we can handle the truth...even if they are Hard Truths...

In the email last night, the anonymous source said: "Nowhere in this meeting did Png Eng Huat indicate to the CEC to remove his name from the ballot. In fact there was one CEC vote for him."

never a dull day in politics! bwahahahahahahahaa... me is now waiting to hear the following in tonight's rally:
1. NCMP balloting process (how it is done and how do the names get nominated)
2. Png's action prior to the balloting process (whether the name is struck off or not)
3. Hunting of the mole... cover blown... bwahahahahahahahaa...

Png didn't have to answer that question. It was really up to the CEC to decide. Now PAP will fire more questions at him. Png indirectly revealed that the NCMP post given to GG was done via the process of balloting. PAP is now going to ask if Eric Tan's name was "in the ballot".

SINGAPORE - A day after a source claimed that Workers' Party (WP) candidate Png Eng Huat had never asked to be be off the Non-Constituency Member of Parliament (NCMP) ballot, Mr Png today explained it was part of the procedure for every candidate to be considered.

Speaking to reporters outside the Hougang Town Council, Mr Png said he had made clear to party chief Low Thia Khiang and his East Coast GRC teammates that he did not want to be considered for the NCMP seat but it was part of the procedure for every candidate in the team to be included for consideration in the secret ballot by the CEC.

He clarified that he meant he did not want to be considered as a candidate for the NCMP post when he told Channel NewsAsia that he had taken his name out from the ballot. He apologised for causing confusion to those who thought he had literally omitted his name from the ballot papers.

Mr Png added Mr Low will be addressing this issue at the WP rally tonight.

A source had emailed the media last night with what was said to be a copy of the minutes from the WP Executive Council extraordinary meeting, held on May 12 last year, after Mr Png told CNA yesterday he had taken his name out of the NCMP ballot.

He was responding to Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean's question on Sunday, on why the WP did not put up Mr Png for the NCMP post following the General Election last year, if it wanted him in Parliament.

The source claimed Mr Png had never stated he was against the NCMP scheme, and in fact received a vote for the NCMP seat in Parliament that would eventually go to Mr Gerald Giam.

The copy of the minutes emailed to the media detailed the exchange of views between party secretary-general Low Thia Khiang and General Election 2011 candidate Eric Tan, who felt he should get the NCMP seat after leading the East Coast GRC to a strong showing at the polls.

Mr Tan would lose the secret ballot to Mr Giam and subsequently resign from the party. However, in the ballot, Mr Png received one vote for the NCMP seat, according to the copy of the minutes.

When i listened to the audio recording of the reporters asking Png about the NCMP, he sounded rather evasive and kept saying "i think....". Experience tells me that whenever someone say "i think...", they are either lying or unsure.
