Why should I be forced to cut my hair for reservist?

I'm trying to get people involved but Singaporeans are really noob about standing up for their rights. All people do is complain and when people want to do something, all supporters Siam....

Anyway, like I said earlier, the hair thing is one of many issues reservist is bringing to the average sinkie.

The other two things I can think of is
1) RT. you fail ippt then forced to attend 20 RT cycles... In the end achieve absolutely nothing. It is a waste of people's time, a waste of people's money and a waste of government resources which could be put to use somewhere else.

2) interference with civilian career. I heard from someone whom is currently in promotion season in his coy and is working hard to get his promotion. Then come reservist letter. He deferred but MINDEF go and kacau his promotion plan by asking his company if he is available for reservist and his coy say yes.

After reservist, someone else got the promotion and he missed his chance for promotion for an entire year.


Also, I donno about this but has anyone been called for reservist on a personally important day like an anniversary or a birthday? After 2 years of NS, the last thing I want is to spend my birthday in uniform.

As much as i would like to support the rights of NSman, i really do not agree on having long hair while wearing the army's uniform. I have served my time as an NSman, business opportunities were being affected during ICT. I beh song, but i know i m not the only one going through this motion. I am not the special one. This guy got really long hair but he managed to tie it nice nice and he confirm can fit it into a helmet. There are many other ways to compromise but instead MINDEF and MHA chose to abuse their power and threaten the wrath of god upon anyone who don't follow their religious belief. As long as someone's hair doesn't interfere with operations, why need to go through all this stupid nonsense of cutting people's hair?

Atleast share some ideas or experiences so to help the 1st cycles stand up for their rights.

This long hair issue is important to me and I have taken great effort into my looks. And this stupid hair rule for 14 days ruined my 11months effort UNDER THREAT OF IMPRISONMENT IN DB OR MONETARY FINE! I can tie my hair, I can keep it neat as a Temparory arrangement for my 14 days reservist but no, it needs to be cut for to adhere to the MINDEF and MHA's religion.

Why don't you write a letter to Mindef and state your reasons. There are good examples from other countries where short engagement reservists do not have to cut their hair or take out their earrings. Would suggest citing individual morale. Most bureaucrats are lazy and have no intention to makes changes but you might grab the attention of one who might see a PR story and trend to depict a modern fighting reserve force.

Ok, my opinion;

To win this battle, you need to first gather strong supports. Raising the hair problem is not going to help you garner much supports.
Step by step. I understand your hair is very important to you. It needs immediate attention but Rome wasn't built in a day. You can come out with a list of issues to seek for supports from people with the same sentiments. But please please, do not list long hair at the top of your list.

As for hair, it is my human right to chose how I want to live my life. I want to keep my hair long is my right to do so. And since we are required to "protect the country" against our will, the least they could do is Temparory compromise and let us tie our hair or a million of other things. As long as my long hair does not affect my ability to "protect my country", why the fuck should they care?

PAP is a party that is mostly debating and implementing issues affecting Singaporean in the parliment. The draft new laws, debate about it and enforce or reject it.

Removing PAP will not make the Enlistment Act disappear.

NS matters are mostly handled by MINDEF and MHA. They're the one governing all this crap. We just need to make a list of arguements of how reservist is interfering with our life and provide a solid arguement against the 10 cycles of stupidity.

I gave my hair arguement and how it interfere with my freedom to chose my self image. There is also the matter of RT which is a waste of time and money and interference with civilian career. Surely there are more issues to be brought up.
