Interesting question. The thing people tend to forget is whether that the aged demograph continues to be active. If they are not... we got a problem.

i agree to your statement to some extent a met a european who wanted temp workers in his new establishment and due to rules of gvt he had to only employ singaporeans no ft or workers but he had had time retaining them in-spite of good offer on money etc. post his 3 month period when he could hire foreigners he immediately vowed to limit his local staff

smart fella. PRC workers are the best, willing to work hard and no complaints

locals got attitude problem, not grateful to have job, think we owe them a living

near future??? the damage was done over decades and pappy wants to dispose a whole can of worms with another bigger can of worms!!!

no near future solution. who comes in as FT???
answer: people who cannot make it in their own country.
thus, making up the numbers with mediocre stock would bring up the population but the quality will suffer. but then again, pappy would love a not-so-brainy population so that they would be docile.

real long-term solution: replace shame with pride and love for the country. no fear for our elected govt. no dictatorship. not taking the general population as lambs for the slaughter in favour of the bloody organisations!!!

no gold medals (or medals of any kind) is alright. getting foreigners to come in and win for us is more disgraceful than not winning a medal. and please dont take the world-cup winning french team as examples. they were not directly imported. they r second generation citizens who were not recruited for football in the first place!!! oh, and everytime some country sneezed in our direction, we sink a little more into our shells when we see our leaders running to carry their balls. look around the neighbouring countries, they r not as rich but why their citizens have more pride??? with a country like that, who wants to have children here, knowing that they would be brainwashed into ball-carrying eunuchs???!!!

Actually, you do not need rocket science to deduce the reason as to why so many foreigners are "encouraged" to work and settle here.

The paramount reason is the extreme sinking birth rate and the increase in the number of aged Singaporeans coupled with the increase in the number of singles.

These younger foreigners will form a significant backbone to "support" the aged through taxes, etc etc.

You may benefit from prc workers because they are cheap and slave like but the rest of the local economy suffers.

Ha ha, lets wait till next year when retail sector start to close shop.

1 sinkee to 2 prc/bangla/pinoy/nepalese yet busineses still depend on 80 percent sinkees.

Sinkees now cutting back and FTs not a contributing factor to the local economy therefore sinkapore is fucked.

Foreigners who are working here and who are willing to settle here by taking up citizenship or PR for that matter can settle the chief and paramount problem of sustaining the increasing demograph of the aged in Singapore in the long run.

This is a fact if you look at the low birth rate as well as the increase in the number of Singaporeans who are single and divorced. These facts do not lie.

The gahmen is not blind as not to know that Singaporeans are complaining about this foreign "invasion" so to speak.

The strategy is basically: Lose the battle but win the War.

What makes you so sure that s'pore can sustain that many workers in the future?

As for your claim it is to compensate for the low birth rate, how many of these foreigners actually take up citizenship? The foreigners I've met have plans to balek kampong.

If the PAPs greed for $$$ exceeds the taxes the citizen base can generate, its a problem with the PAP gov't & the simple solution is to lower expectations.

eeoror88, I give you a better proposition. Hire a real Japanese cook from Japan and do Japanese food at your foodcourt. Use revenue and profit sharing model. Fuck up all the Japanese chains at Central and old liang court. I guarantee you sure win. Get in pretty Jap meimeis on working holidays and then the rest PRC meimeis. Sure win model. I will be the first one to go if you do it.
