Reason why so many foreigners !!

The PRC will be part of Singapore. In 50 years time they form the nucleus of the Chinese population here just like our forefathers have done hundred years ago. 15 years ago, the first wave of Hongkies came here and now the second wave of PRC into our shore. We should welcome them, history repeated itself. Weren't our forefathers were PRC before when they migrated here. I think it is good to balance the proportion of the population here, otherwise the minorities think they can have more babies than us. We musn't let the m&ds and neh neh think otherwise.

Which fantasy is this? U must be a sci fi writer. Our forefathers came here because life was better here, even though it was hard. At that time, they faced famine, war, disease in China, and working in a gambier plantation or on the railroad here was better than life in China. Even so, many of these original chinese had the intention to go back to china. This new batch of chinese is not in the same shoes. Once they get what they want, they will go back to China too. China has much more opportunities to make money, and cost of living is much cheaper. It offers better prospects than S'pore. These guys are not going to let their precious little emperors do NS.

By the way, how many of those HK from 15 years ago are still here? They only used S'pore as a stepping stone until they got approval for emigration to Canada. Aussie, or US. At that time, the handing over of HK to the chinese panic many of them. If u look around, u will see that they are no longer here.

So, your pipedream of the new gen of chinese immigration repopulating is singapore is quite laughable.

Where is your LONG TERM solution?

This is exactly the same question I want to ask.

As of now, the workable solution is to "import" PRC citizens and PRs but already so many problems expressed but no alternative solution being offerred.

I also can't imagine what would the LONG TERM solution be ??

One out, 3 in. Good maths.

In the eyes of the PAP Sporeans are justs digits. If you look at the numbers of course it looks good, 3 in 1 out.

What happens when you need the citizens e.g. NS & reservist? Who is going to stick around to defend a "hotel".

When Spore is no longer an attractive hotel many will move on & what will the PAP do then?

importing PRCs? are you importing adults or babies? adults will contribute to the greying nation, unless they are going back to PRC when they are old.

Then what is a better alternative solution to the rapidly aging population problem in Singapore ???

Today Headlines:

"China-born Leiny Tan came to Singapore in 1991 at the age of 23, and became a citizen
in 1994. Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew wants to see 50 Chinese-turned-Singaporean like her every year"

There will always people would come and some will pack and go back. Easy come, easy go. It is easier to compete small fish in a small pond than large fish in a large pond.
Nevertheless, These PRC are here to stay. I know a PRC family with two kids, have
stayed for 10 years already. Their kid are more Singaporeans than PRC. Give them
time, they will part of us just like our forefathers. My parent in laws came to Singapore
from China, and that was when my present wife was born. Is she a PRC ? Lets us not forget where our roots.

Ask yourself who wants to bring up a family in a hotel?
LKYs funny ideas on social engineering & such has caused Spore alot of grief.
When the LKY & family are gone, Sporeans can go back to being a country & the problem will work itself out.

Until that happens don't expect LKY to fix a problem that he created.

Work itself out ?? How ??

The current strategy to encourage PRCs to settle here will work albeit with some social consequences. The aging problem is REAL !!!

are we importing adults or babies??? my new neighbor are PRCs, they've got their PRs and they are still childless :D:D:D

At least they are trying.

Also, another BIG incentive is that these PRCs can give birth to more than one child unlike in China where they have this one-child policy.

i'm pretty sure the ICA has the figures for the number of PRCs using Singapore as a jumping stone, some of them very brainy folks :D:D:D

In addition, Language and culture are also important factors.

The PRC citizens do feel comfortable communicating with Singaporeans rather than the AngMos even though there may be more opportunities in Western countries.

Their children can also have some retention of roots as they can study Chinese here.

what culture same? PRCs that come are mainly from the North, not from the southern provinces of Fujian or Guangzhou that our forefathers came from. Over the period of time, our culture had change considerably different from even from where our forefathers came from.

Dont even let me start on the langague. MOE standard so low, if u had seen the chinese being teach in secondary school, u will be shock.

It is not the same but near enough, if we compare Singapore to the Western countries.

This is the reason why PRCs are given citizenship here and likewise, they like to seek citizenry here.

PRC are like fish out from the water. They will be able to adapt to our culture. Like I say, give them time. So what about Singaporeans who have left our shore. I heard no complaints from them. You need two things with you, cash and education.

There are close to a million PRCs in Singapore currently and a significant portion of them are citizens and PRs. Their children are already studying in the schools here.

Even though some of them will return China eventually, there will be a significant portion of them who remains and the most important fact to note is that this cohort are young and are able to give birth to 2 or more children here!!

Therefore it can equalise the fast greying problem and the extremely low birth replacement rate in Singapore.

you may like to ask why so many are leaving pap singapore that the pap has to resort to large "imports" to replace the population... reason is like any corporation... the capable are leaving because the pap leadership sucks big time... simple reason...
