Our educators play multiple roles as Team Managers, coaches and organisers of the National School Games 2022. And they have been working non-stop since the end of last year to get Singapore’s largest and most extensive school sports event going.
Thank you to all our educators for your hard work in caring for our students and their well-being.
With more than 250 divisional competitions, a lot of thought and planning has gone into ensuring the safety of our students and school community -- from calibrating games and competition formats, to the implementation of safe management measures.
Care is also taken to ease our student athletes into full game formats and provide them meaningful competition experiences, after the hiatus of 2 years due to #COVID19.
The competition is now heating up, with several finals such as softball, volleyball, table tennis and badminton lined up next week. Our student athletes are showcasing the hard work they have put into their training, and fellow peers and some parents naturally wish to see them in action.
Our first priority remains the safe conduct of the games for our children. Our next priority will be to enable our students to cheer their peers on and be inspired – we are looking into having in-person student spectators at some of the NSG competitions. When conditions allow and without stretching our teachers even more, we will then explore allowing family members on-site to join in to support our students.
For family members and friends of our student athletes who wish to catch NSG to express their support, I encourage you to view select competitions which are live streamed at https://go.gov.sg/nsg2022.

Treasures, time and talent – what it takes for the final mile efforts in safeguarding social mobility and uplifting the less privileged among us.
1f539.png
Treasures: Monetary donations and in-kind support to worthwhile programmes or assistance schemes
1f539.png
Time: Longer term and more consistent efforts to help children with high needs develop resilience, confidence and aspiration for a better future
1f539.png
Talent: Engaging people with the right skill sets to connect with and inspire less privileged children, to effectively help them address the issues that they face
Glad to see National University of Singapore helping our undergraduates to step up with Teach Singapore (Teach SG), a programme that equips them with the skills to effectively mentor less fortunate children. Many thanks to Dr Chua Tian Poh and Ho Bee Land, for their gift of $10 million, as well as other donors and community partners.

I encourage our NUS student volunteers to reflect on their mentoring experience with Teach SG, grow as mentors and make a lasting difference. My vision is for a future where every undergraduate in Singapore can mentor a child from a less privileged family, and play a guiding role in helping our next generation achieve a better future.

Delighted to join colleagues, as well as partners and volunteers from Heartwarmers Volunteer, at their Hari Raya Goodie Bag distribution this weekend.
Thanked them for the good work over the years in reaching out to and taking care of less privileged members of our community.
But more importantly - beyond the provision of assistance, this is also an opportunity to build long-term relationships in our community to better help those who need help now stand on their own feet and also pay it forward to others in the future.

Our children are all blessed with different, special gifts. Their school journey will help them better realise those gifts, build on their strengths and overcome their weaknesses. Hence the definition of success for them cannot only be based on academic performance.
At the My Buona Vista CCC-CDC Education Merit Awards presentation this weekend, I reminded our young ones that they were receiving the awards not just because of their intelligence and hard work. But also due to the opportunities given to them by our community and the people around them.
Every generation of Singaporeans strives for the next generation to do even better. This is what makes Singapore so special.

Keechiu visits a Ramadan bazaar.

17 April at 23:25 ·
Even heavy rain could not dampen the festive spirit at the Ramadan bazaar at #WismaGeylangSerai this evening!
Was happy to join Zaqy Mohamad, Alvin Tan 陈圣辉 and the Wisma Geylang Serai team to soak in the sights and sounds of the Ramadan bazaar once again, as the Muslim community prepares to celebrate a very #RayaIstimewa (‘special Hari Raya’ in Malay) this year, after 2 years of quiet celebrations due to the pandemic.
Despite the wet weather, many families and groups of friends turned up to get their fill of festive food, home decorations and baju Raya (Hari Raya clothes) for the family. Since April 14, 2 new zones have opened at the field and along the grass verge next to Tanjong Katong Complex, adding 30 more stalls to the bustling bazaar. Stallholders said the crowd has been good and are looking forward to even better business as the Raya spirit heats up in the second half of Ramadan.
Wishing all Muslims a safe and blessed Ramadan!
Selamat berpuasa kepada semua umat Islam!
