Like all parents, I want Singapore to be a place where my daughter can achieve whatever she sets her mind to, and has the opportunities to work hard and become the person she aspires to be.
The White Paper on Singapore Women’s Development outlines five areas for 25 Action Plans:
Equal opportunities at the workplace
Recognition and support for caregivers
Protection against violence and harm

Ministry of Education, Singapore’s efforts in empowering our female students in Parliament today -- throughout the journey from preschool to tertiary education, our students are taught the importance of respect, appropriate behaviour, the importance of feeling safe, and the protection afforded to them by the law.
We also address gender stereotypes in our curriculum. This includes highlighting women’s experiences, contributions and achievements in school materials alongside those of their male counterparts. Our refreshed Character and Citizenship Education (CCE) curriculum has Family Education as a key content area, with students learning to appreciate that family members can play different roles regardless of gender and the importance of shared parental responsibilities.
Fundamentally, all of us have a role to play in further advancing Singapore women’s development – let us treat women with respect, accord them with dignity, and support them to thrive in all areas of their lives.
