Cards designed by Boon Lay Garden Primary School students. Students shared what they were grateful for - everything from their teachers, to their friends, to their learning environment. National Day-themed, but designs and messages are timeless.
Which is your favourite design?

“The greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members.”
At the Lutheran Community Care Services (LCCS) Gala Dinner last night, I was heartened to hear about the recent initiatives to advance their goal of building connected communities and equipping empowered individuals. Their unwavering dedication to building connected communities and empowering individuals is truly inspiring.
LCCS is a non-profit, charitable organisation with an Institution of a Public Character (IPC) status, and it was founded with the aim of addressing social needs and enhancing the quality of life for vulnerable groups in Singapore. Over the years, it has grown into a significant player in the social welfare landscape, known for its comprehensive approach and dedication to service.
LCCS has been a pillar of support, fostering strong relationships and providing vital resources to those in need. Their commitment to making a difference in the lives of individuals and families reflects the best of our community spirit.
A heartfelt thank you to LCCS for your continued efforts and remarkable contributions. Together, we’re creating a more compassionate and connected Singapore.

SMRT is collaborating with local artists to design heritage-themed, comic-style murals to showcase the history and stories around our MRT stations.
This weekend, I joined our partners at the SMRT Comic Connect mural launch in collaboration with artist Ronnie Tan at Holland Village MRT Station. See if you can spot in the mural some of our iconic Holland Village landmarks past and present.

We all want the best for our children.
But what’s best may look different to each of us.
At MOE, “best” means considering which school will bring out the best version of our children – rather than aiming for the most popular school.
It means raising children who are confident of their abilities, not children who base their self-worth on exam scores.
It means holding space for our children to try, fail, and to take these setbacks as learning opportunities - not removing all setbacks that our children face.
We can’t be sure of what the future holds, but we can be sure that the future will have untidiness and uncertainty.
And we must help our children to embrace them and thrive with resilience.

Keechiu wants to work towards these collective goals as one sector. :o-o::confused::tongue:

I spoke in Parliament today on how we are working together with Social Service Agencies (SSAs) to support the well-being of our special education (SPED) teachers, in five areas:
1️⃣
Enhanced Professional Development: We will deepen the professional capabilities of our SPED teachers and leaders in both curriculum knowledge and practice, as well as specialisation in various disability profiles. This will be done collectively across the SSAs and SPED schools, more systematically. The various SPED schools, serving the same segment of special needs, will come together to lead these Communities of Practice and share their best practices.
2️⃣
Relief Teacher Pool: We will bring our SPED schools and SSAs together to jointly develop a pool of relief teachers. They will support SPED educators, when they take time off for training and professional development.
3️⃣
Strengthening manpower resourcing: Working with our SPED schools, we will improve recruitment and HR processes through sector-wide marketing and collaboration. Our SPED teachers and leaders must be confident that their careers are as respected and professionally enriching as those in mainstream education.
4️⃣
Cross-Sector Learning and Collaboration: We’re exploring more ways for mainstream and SPED educators to collaborate and learn from one another through attachments or rotations, enhancing their understanding of needs of students with diverse profiles.
5️⃣
Administrative Support in schools: We’ll work with SSAs to streamline administrative and infrastructure support, while maintaining flexibility to meet the unique needs of each SPED school.
It is not easy to be a SPED educator, to say the least. But they're an important, special group of people to us. These initiatives reflect our commitment in supporting them and enhancing their professional growth, ensuring they are valued and well-equipped to make a difference.
We will need the collective effort of the SSAs and SPED schools. Together, will work towards these collective goals as one sector.

All Singaporeans have a special power to access different universes - and that is bilingualism. The ability to speak multiple languages and understand cultures opens doors to different perspectives and much diversity.
At today's Mother Tongue Languages Symposium, I announced three key initiatives for us to make bilingualism a greater part of our lives.
First, we will make Higher Mother Tongue Language (HMTL) more accessible. More students who do well in Chinese, Malay or Tamil, will be able to take HMTL in secondary school – so long as they obtain a AL1/AL2 in their Mother Tongue language (MTL) or Distinction/Merit in Higher MTL. We will do away with the current requirement for students to have to meet a certain overall PSLE score, because we recognise that everyone has different strengths.
Second, we will start SOAR, a new structured reading programme in primary schools, to cultivate positive reading habits in students from young. It will meet a diverse group of learners. Those who can be stretched further in MTL will read books which are richer in content - while those who need more support will read books that are more accessible.
Third, we will pilot a programme to increase the amount of MTL exposure in two MOE Kindergartens by 30 mins, from 1 hour to 1.5 hour per day. This will gradually be scaled across more MOE Kindergartens, and we will explore increasing MTL curriculum time with other pre-school operators.
Billingualism in one’s early years makes a difference. A special shoutout as well to our preschool MTL teachers. We recognised 14 of them today for their efforts to use engaging pedagogies for our students to learn, use and love the language.
Bilingualism: our identity, our lives, our advantage. It is our strategic asset for Singapore. Thank you to all who have tirelessly nurtured our students’ love for their mother tongue!

Congratulations to Team Singapore for their outstanding performance at the WorldSkills Competition in Lyon, France!
1f1f8_1f1ec.png

The team has done us proud, placing 7th out of over 70 participating countries and regions from around the world, with two Golds, four Silvers, two Bronze, 11 Medals for Excellence and 11 Certifications of Participation. This speaks to Singapore's growth and development in the training and education of vocational skills.
While we celebrate their achievements, let us also celebrate their journey. Our youths have worked hard and persevered as they honed their skills to prepare for the competition, with their educators, employers, family and friends beside them. I hope they have also made many new friends in Lyon, some of whom may partner with us in future.
Team Singapore returns home today. But their pursuit of skills mastery is only just beginning. Well done!

I can, and I will --- This is the spirit I hope the MOE family will embody as we prepare both our educators and students to thrive in this ever-changing world.
I shared with more than 1,700 school leaders and educators on how we can do so at the MOE Schools Work Plan Seminar today.
A top priority: we must carve out space and time for our educators to focus on creating meaningful learning experiences for our children, going beyond conventional pedagogies - and to continuously reskill and upskill for their professional growth. What must continue - and what should be dropped so that we can pursue other outcomes?
To free up our teachers, we will streamline work where possible. For instance, schools will have the autonomy to decide if they want to facilitate either the Applied Learning Programme (ALP) or Learning for Life Programme (LLP) in schools, programmes which help children learn through hands-on experiences. We will also work with schools to recalibrate expectations for what educators should do (or not do) – and establish boundaries on communication. Educators should only be expected to respond to work-related messages during school hours, except for exigencies, and use official channels when contacting parents.
For our children to grow up happy, confident, with good values, parents and educators must work together as role models and create a supportive environment. We will refresh the Guidelines for School-Home Partnership to guide parents and children in developing good and healthy habits in this digital era. Together with MSF and HPB, we have also developed Parenting for Wellness, an initiative to help parents build strong parent-child relationships in this digital age.
As the saying goes, it takes a village to raise a child. But it also takes a village to develop our educators. All of us are part of this village.
To our educators: you have done tremendous work. I am proud of everything we have achieved, as a fraternity. MOE will stand with you, support your growth and help you be the best version of yourself, even as you do the same for our children.
We can, we will.

Today, we celebrate the achievements of 9,988 student athletes across 28
sports at the 54th Singapore Schools Sports Council (SSSC) Colours Award.
The Award is not only a commendation of good sportsmanship. It recognises our students' tenacity, passion and dedication on the sports field. A testament that talent comes in many forms.
Our coaches, teachers and parents play pivotal roles in the rich development of our student athletes. My congratulations to all, and especially our young athletes!
