Sure, if LHL had sat down and watched a documentary about the hostage crisis during the crisis itself, and he had divine and perfect information that there is 0% chance of rescue no matter what he did or did not do, then perhaps he could make the statements. However, seeing as it would have required time travel, which as far as I know has not been invented, the most prudent thing would have been to just shut up.

Your assumption that all hostages are killed once terrorists take over is completely wrong. If your assumption is correct, we won't have PrataMan as our Elected President today.

PrataMan volunteered to be a hostage in the 1973 Laju incident. He enjoyed a free plane ride. The original hostagers are still alive. I mean they may be dead from cancer, heart attacks, strokes, old age whatever. But they were not killed onboard in 1973. I am 100% sure not ALL hostages were sent to the mortuaries for ALL terrorist cases.

Again, not all terrorist are the same. For these Muslim terrorist, they are not interested in living. They are all waiting to go to heaven for killing non-Muslim. That is different from prataman's hostage takers. Watch the documentary and you will know what kind of terrorist these idiots are.

In fact, that is exactly what they did - watched the news coverage of the rescue operation itself, which was criticized for taking away the element of surprise of the resucers. Clearly you did not follow the crisis. They were in a bloody luxury hotel that was connected to the world. If you didn't know what they were or weren't doing, why take chances? This doesn't even require perfect hindsight.

From the little I know of terrorism, I am aware that when it comes to negotiations with terrorists (with hostages of course), the main strategy is to play for time and more time.

Play for time and more time to collect more info/intel, explore options, get your commandos to rehearse the rescue part, try and get release of 1 or 2 hostages to better size up the situation (number of terrorists, positions, weapons etc), allow for some compromise etc. Always engage them. Please them if you have to. If they want women, send them women!!!

But, NEVER, NEVER EVER AGITATE THEM. Agitate them includes condemning their act of terrorism, immediately denying them their requests even if the request is an atrocious one etc.

We may never agree but it is alright. I respect your views even though I don't agree with them. All that is needed is just a few cases whereby Muslim terrorists release their hostages and your stand will go down the drain.
