What you are trying to discuss are "would have", "could have", "should have" which no one knows for sure. But trying to put blame on someone with "would have", "could have" and "should have" who has no direct influence of the outcome is just plain stupid in my view.

Every hostage situation are different. It depends on who are the hostage takers and what were their intention, demand and objective.

In this Mumbai case, there is no two way about it. They were out to kill and killing is their objective and statement. Nothing you say or do will change their zombies religious mind.

I recall reading the father-in-law of Hwei Yen was/is a grassroot leader, Marine Parade if I am correct. No idea if that relationship deterred further action. It may also be a case of family of Hwei Yen deciding there is no point to pursue further coz you can't bring the dead back. I see no harm for strangers and outsidrs to speculate whether the incident was handled properly or otherwise coz the decision to issue that statement was an official act of our PM in his capacity as PM.

If the family was made up of poor, uneducated, ignorant people with no connections, I would have been glad to analyse what happened and discuss various scenrios and the possible outcomes, with an emphasis on any "honest mistakes".

But since the family accepted it, I think we should also accept it.
