I grief for Lo Hwei Yen. She was tragically shot. Terror and stupidity caused Hwei Yen's death.

Most people blamed terror when the gunmen shot Hwei Yen. But not many people know that someone's stupidity agitated the gunmen and caused them to shoot at Singaporean. The PM wanted to sound "heroic" and denounced the gunmen when Hwei Yen, a Singaporean, was in their hands and was very vulnerable.

I blame his stupidity and unnecessary comment for causing Hwei Yen's death. A stupid PM has blood on his hands.

If her family members have any grievances or issues with how it was handled, they should voice it out and all Singaporeans should support them in making it a national issue.

But if the family members have no issues with how it was handled, what reasons do strangers and outsiders have to speculate that it wasn't handled properly?

From the little I know of terrorism, I am aware that when it comes to negotiations with terrorists (with hostages of course), the main strategy is to play for time and more time.

Play for time and more time to collect more info/intel, explore options, get your commandos to rehearse the rescue part, try and get release of 1 or 2 hostages to better size up the situation (number of terrorists, positions, weapons etc), allow for some compromise etc. Always engage them. Please them if you have to. If they want women, send them women!!!

But, NEVER, NEVER EVER AGITATE THEM. Agitate them includes condemning their act of terrorism, immediately denying them their requests even if the request is an atrocious one etc.

We may never agree but it is alright. I respect your views even though I don't agree with them. All that is needed is just a few cases whereby Muslim terrorists release their hostages and your stand will go down the drain.

In the documentary, there was another couple held hostage by the terrorist in another location. There was some negotiation going on. But the couple was executed when the negotiation was still going on. They were there to kill and not to negotiate. Watch the documentary. It was very detailed and there are live recording of the terrorist conversation with their superiors.

Watch the documentary. There was a rescue attempt in one of the hostage situation, but failed as the killers killed all the hostages before they were killed, and before the rescue attempt.

I recall reading the father-in-law of Hwei Yen was/is a grassroot leader, Marine Parade if I am correct. No idea if that relationship deterred further action. It may also be a case of family of Hwei Yen deciding there is no point to pursue further coz you can't bring the dead back. I see no harm for strangers and outsidrs to speculate whether the incident was handled properly or otherwise coz the decision to issue that statement was an official act of our PM in his capacity as PM.
