SINGAPORE: A 48-year-old man was murdered at Lorong 8 Geylang on Sunday (May 3), say the Singapore Police.

The police said in a news release that they received a call for assistance at about 9.09pm, and upon arrival, the man was found lying motionless.

He was conveyed to Tan Tock Seng Hospital where he was subsequently pronounced dead at about 10.12pm.

Police have classified the case as murder and investigations are ongoing.

The man who was found dead after a coffeeshop fight at Geylang Lorong 8 two nights ago had allegedly been in a dispute with his friend over a woman.

The incident took place on Sunday night (May 3) at around 9pm. Stomper Nicholas had sent in photos showing the man lying motionless on the road.

According to Shin Min Daily News, the deceased is a 48-year-old Malay. He is believed to be a local.

A 55-year-old suspect was later arrested in connection to the case. Shin Min Daily News reported that he is a Singaporean Malay.

He has a head full of white hair and was seen wearing a red cap when the incident occurred.

The two men were friends and were believed to have been fighting over the deceased's ex-girlfriend, a 40-year-old cleaner known as Siti.

The trio had been eating and drinking with a few other friends, but it is unclear how the dispute started.

Witnesses told Shin Min Daily News that it was the deceased who first punched the suspect. Onlookers had to intervene and separate both men.

Just when everyone thought the drama had died down, the suspect suddenly brandished a knife and stabbed his friend in the waist. He then fled the scene.

The victim was taken to Tan Tock Seng Hospital, where he died from a loss of blood.

Police have classified the case as murder and investigations are ongoing.
