Malaysia Can't

so these road blocks are to allow TP to take bribes?

Road blocks are done to supplement their income. When you depart with your S$50/- please note that the chap whom you handed the cash to does not pocket the entire amount.

What happens is that after the operations, all proceeds collected will be pooled together and divided accordingly. Protocol dictates that the head will get more than his subordinates. The chap you gave your cash to may only be getting 10-20% of your charitable act.

This protocol extends to many other areas - drug consumption in nite spots, soccer betting, lottery collection, illegal gaming houses, illegal VCDs, prostitution etc. For major business which is highly lucrative, even the chaps sitting at Bukit Aman gets their cut. If not, you get to hear of raids led by Bukit Aman.

Not easy to trade or do illegal biz up north. You pay police, you pay underworld. When new man takes over, old deals null and void. Subjected to new negotiations. Usually better terms for the cops and underworld.

e = mc^2

where...

e denotes erection
m means mammalian (glands)
c stands for cleavage
^2 = squared or power of 2

e is a function of the size of m times the depth of c and desirability of c. that was what gave einstein his inspiration to come up with that formula. he was having a boner while staring at two heavenly bodies and the time-space continuum between them.

hahahaha..that's completely different from what i learnt of e=mc2

Yes, it is an unfortunate fact of life that corruption is rife in the Malaysian Public Service but if you were not speeding you should have insisted on evidence to the contrary.
In my situation, they said the photo evidence would be sent to my address in Singapore (of course it never came). Their 'scare' tactics of setting up road blocks to collect coffee money is well know especially just before Hari Raya and CNY.

Did you pay the bribe or accept the summons?

I have already said that I was not speeding. so how could i have given him the bribe? if i had bribed him, it wld be an admission of my guilt and he wld have won

More than 15 years. I got a road block at Seremban. I told the Officer, issue me the summon than rather give him bride. The summon MY$100, got the receipt and moved on

There are two ways to deal with this problem of being approached for coffee money.

Your insistence on being issued a summon rather than giving in worked for you. There is also an advantage in doing so. You don't want to offer or accept an offer to settle on-the-spot as the traffic officer may actually be an undercover from their anti-corruption entity. If you offer or take up their offer, it is corruption or abetting corruption. Pretty serious offences.

Not giving in may also lead to serious problems. They can accuse you of anything and everything under the sun or moon. This can lead to massive inconvenience if you meet the wrong chaps. The fact that you cannot trust their senior officers to be fair makes this worse coz if the supervisor supports his subordinate, you are in for a rough time.

For me, I assessed the situation and usually pay up.

Tracy, presumably you are a girl, a pretty one otherwise you won't used the word "lustfully". I as lo assumed your companion is a girl too. Otherwise you won't confront the Traffic Police. If what I said is true. This is my advice.
Never drive up to MY alone or companion also a woman. I do not know what is the situation now as I seldom drive up. If you dressed up well and do look sexy enough. You are drawing attentions, especially when you take a stop rest.
Becareful where you stop for a rest. People are watching you. One of the mistakes during those days Singaporeans would like to stop at Ayer Hitam. Those were days car-napping and raping happened.

Thank you for the good advice. I appreciate it. Yes, I did have a stop over at Yong Peng and I suspect that attracted some attention. we were stopped before Malacca. Good thing i didnt attempt to bribe him, or else he could have turned ard and accused me of bribery if he wanted to frame me. That wld be disastrous for me.

I wish I had your kind of advice earlier...thanks, i am wiser now

You are wise and discerning. You are right, if I was really speeding, I wld be in a dilemma...to bribe or not to bribe...both can have bad consequences. It was fortunate I was not speeding and he could not do anything to me as I stood my ground.

If I had given in and offered him a bribe, I think he wld have gotten me into bigger trouble...

wahh, you seem to know a lot abt the MY Police. If what you said is true, it's bad news for MY

Even if you weren't speeding, refuses to bribe etc, it doesn't mean you will get away all the time. If those jokers want to fix you up with something else, I doubt if they can't find that something. A friend of mine was in your situation. Ended up in their police station for a host of offences he did not commit! End of the day, he paid up for his traffic offence - speeding.

When it comes to such incentives, it is surely M'sia boleh. They are known to have been involved in more serious offences than just fixing motorists up with some other offences. Especially if you are S'porean.

Btw, how did you keep to the speed limit? It is almost impossible to adhere to their speed limit. I usually drive at 160kph when on the NS h/way.

I have several good friends with M'sian police. M'sia existed and will continue to exist with corruption rampant all over the country. My friend even told me that to survive, you need to be corrupted. If not, your boss and colleagues will view you with suspicion and will engineer your exit. Corruption, up north, is already institutionalised.

What I wrote is only the tip of the iceberg.

Frigthening to hear of your friend's ordeal..could have happened to anyone, including me..

I conscientiously keep to 110kmph as I dont want to get into trouble. I am aware that if i was guilty of speeding, a lot of other things could be thrown against me...I dont know what they wld do to me...The fear of that made me stay on the right side of the law.

Perhaps i have to re-assess abt going to MY in future..nt worth the risk..

wow..so what I that was bad is just the tip of deeper Malaysian shit!!!

My general advice - in Rome do as the Romans do. If you suay suay bribe an anti-corruption officer, it is just your bad luck. 99% you close eye bribe them should be ok.

Whenever you have to bribe against your conscience, don't do it as though they owe you a living. Bribe them, smile at them and thank them, ok?

I always stand-by 4 pieces of S$50 with me, eveready to supplement their income. That way, I drive without stress. The $200 is worked into the budget for the trip. If I don't get penalised, it is a 'profit''. Another S$200 will be on standby for return trip.

I think your method may be good for a guy...but for a gal, they can turn ard and accuse me of trying to bribe him and get me into deeper trouble...I got this suspicion and fear from the way he ogled me

Trust me, if you cruise control at 110kph and they want to find fault, they will succeed. You can't beat them at how incredible they are.

Don't allow this or what I say deter your future trips. I have never been deterred even with all that is happening. When I leave Woodlands or Tuas, I just ensure my passport is stamped.

When on the highway or at rest area, just be more alert. Day driving safer especially if alone or just 2 or 3 others. If need to rest or use the toilet, stop at the big petrol stations and avoid suspicious human beings. No harm keeping a 'legal'weapon in close proximity - baseball bat, hockey stick, golf club etc.

The above safety measures also apply to US highways and anywhere outside S'pore.

You have a valid point. I suggest you don't drive alone or with your female companion(s) up north. Better to take a bus or train then, to neutralise any potential threat to one's safety. Alternatively, you can get your bros here to accompany you!

Thanks for the good advice. I will certainly be more alert an not take things for granted.

I used to look forward to short trips to MY like driving up to KL or Genting...After this episode, I am not so keen now
