How good is RSAF ?

I'm afraid most NSmen will stop by at Ayer Hitam for shopping, and others will be distracted by landed properties in Horizon Hills, so it might take a few days before they reach Segamat.

Our army boys will be too busy bashing thru fruit plantation and plucking down the durian to eat....where got time to fight war...

Powerful in the air but no place to take off and land also no use....that is why our main target is to take out their airbase first before launching attack on foot...so like wise same thing for us too...take out our runways then we also habis...unless we decide to switch and buy Harriet VTOL craft...:D

After the Cold War, a few other countries considered close US/UK are allowed to buy the Harrier. Notably for Singapore, Thailand has it. Thailand also has aircraft carrier with jump deck to launch Harrier. Even Vietnam don't have such stuff. That's why I say, Thai Navy is #1 in SEA no contest. Singapore navy is police patrol compared to Thai.

Malaysian forces are mostly regulars staying in govt provided lodging, driving military vehicles, paid less than USD500 a month and basically nothing else to their name.

Singapore forces mostly reservists stays in HDB, condos, landed properties, all value of nothing less than S$1/2 million, drives cars of value nothing lesser than S$60k, savings of maybe at least 10k and 200K in other investments and most importantly at least 100k in their CPF.

Lets take a guess of who will be more aggressive, more willing to lay down their lives, more to lose and more to gain?

Why want to go war? Compare weapon?
Just like others comment just few shot in airfield all plane will be cripple.
Why and who we want to fight?
No country in Asean are going to fire 1st shot at their neighbour. Why do you all thing Malaysia or Indo will fire 1st?
Or will SAF fire 1st?
Answer No.
Many time Singapore pilot over shoot/fly over to Johore Airspace> So far not one shot from Malaysia.
Fight or war both side will lose.
Even one side with better weapon or bigger army.
Have US win war in Afgan?
More army and more high tech weapon still losing the war. Causing US economy to collapse.

You try telling that to the Kuwaities, without oil no one would had come to their rescue.
anyway saddam was also interested in the oil wealth

I'd rather you think of Israel air strikes against the Hamas ballistic missile bases instead of U.S. against Vietnam. Surgical strikes with ground incursions minimal just to secure the borders to disarm those rocket sites. No occupation of territory.

The americans have got the best airforce but they are loosing foot solddiers in Iraq & Afghanistan. Before that they withdrew from Vietnam even though Vietnam air force was 3rd world.

Even if Spore's air force destroys all their objectives, its not going to be the end of it. No air force has ever won a war. You can use it for deterrence but once a shooting war is starts the army gets involved.

There's still the Malaysian army & the NS guys are going to be called up to defend Spore's borders. There are many soft targets in Spore & even a single individual can do alot of damage.

I don't see the Malaysians attacking Spore as there is nothing here of interest to them. However there's more likelihood of Spore attacking Malaysia for its water, sand,...

Have US win war in Afgan?

Many have the misconception that Soviet Union and United States lost the war in Afghanistan. Not so. From a military standpoint, they won their wars with amazing ease. They walked into the country at will and changed the governments at will. They could decide when it's enough and leave at will too, since the aim is not to conquer. They won the war but not the people, that's the difference. So there're lingering guerilla and terrorist resistance.

It's different from the Korean stalemate (they went in and managed to save half of it) or the Vietnam defeat (they went in but got completely kicked out).

On the contrary, war is very good business US defence and related industries, and therefore US economy generally. It's just not good for the country being invaded. There'd been 3rd party beneficiaries too. Thailand and Singapore economies benefitted hell of lots from logistics support and supplies during Vietnam War.

Then US McDonnell-Douglas came up with F4 Phantom that seemed to have solved all problems for all the.....

In the early years the Brits, Europeans, Canadians... had better jets than the americans

For example the Candians had the Avro Arrow

Some believe that that all the prototypes were scrapped because of a secret deal between the US/Canadian gov't to prevent it from competing with the American designs :)

In my humble opinion, before F4 Phantom, all US fighter and bomber aircrafts are middle-so-so nothing to shout about. US WW2 aircrafts were nowhere comparable to Messerschmidts, Zeros and Spitfires. Faced with a Battle of Battle style air battle against an air force like Luftwaffe, US would still survive through numerical superiority attrition but at a cost of horrendous losses and casualties, i.e. the USSR experience. US beat Japan through numbers and intelligence, and of course the nukes.

Americans abandoned South Vietnam in a stalemate so they didn't lost too. South Vietnam lost the war themselves.

Spore wants water, sand, M'sian labour,... If they did what the Isralis's did to Lebabon the cost be be high.

How do you think Indonesia will respond to an attack on a muslim neigbour:confused:

Best solution is to surrender to Malaysians & have them kick out the PAP :D

Malaysia says thanks but no thanks. Kicked Singapore out of Malaysia once already. Not a second time, please.

From what I know the Malaysian were offered the Harriers but they declined as those planes were not supersonic,

Also heards that Spore was offered the F4 but it was a complicated aircraft to maintain requiring alot of maintenance. That's why the experienced gained with the A4 anf F5E were useful in preparing them for more advanced designs.

Indonesia will send a peace envoy to Singapore and beg our superior air force not to bombard Indonesia. They will blame Malaysia for not being a good neighbour.

The 1st time was because the Tengku wanted to get rid of the trouble maker LKY.

LKY predicted a few years ago that Spore must re-join Malaysian if it is to survive. I also believe it is the only way for Spore to get back on the right track.

Multi-million dollar salaries for MPs & civil service is not sustainable

This I don't know. Anyway, what has supersonic speed got to do with it? Go air racing? Harrier is not meant to be supersonic exactly because vertical or short uplift is important for quick takeoff and strike. Argentina fought Harrier with supersonic Dassault Mirage. Ask them. The result wasn't exactly Diego Maradona.

This I understand to be true. F4 was considered too complicated and unnecessary overkill for Singapore at that time. Singapore settled on F5.
