changi village nasi lemak

There's another Nasi lemak stall worth mentioning, at Geylang lorong 15. Love their petai and fried chicken.
 
Any body tried the nasi lemak in boon lay hawker's center?....the que is usually longer than Changi Village and has more varieties to offer.

Personally I don't drool for both though both are nice.....
 
I don't usually eat nasi lemak, or even rice at all. But I've tried the one at Changi V just by chance some years ago. My friend and his wife invited me and my wife to Pulau Ubin. We came back to Changi V by dinnertime and my friend recommended that stall. Not bad and not expensive. $10 for four packets, but the queue took about 20 mins.

Incredibly, that was my first trip to Changi V and Ubin. Changi V is a nice place to eat, drink and relax around except it's too far from my place. Ubin was a disappointment. Overhyped at that time but nothing much.
 
The Changi Nasi Lemak is not that great. It is expensive, bloody long queue in a stuffy hawker centre, very crowded and the woman serving it is rude. I don't understand why people are saying it is good when there are more places that served better nasi lemak. Try Bedok South, Bedok North and elsewhere, they are usually just as good. Nasi Lemak is too dry in my opinion and I always ask the stall to put some Lontong gravy which makes the food better tasting.

Haha confirm you are not a nasi alamak fan. Nobody put lontong gravy on nasi lemak.. it is the fragant rice + chilli + lovely chicken wings that make the nasi lemak nice. But agreed.. i will not wait for 30 minutes either

I understand that nasi lemak is cooked in coconut milk and lotong curry is also made from coconut milk base. Aren't you eating too much of coconut in a mixed dish like that?

hahaha...there is "another" Changi V nasi lemak at a kpitiam in Chong Pang....
i find it no standard.....stall also got no queue...
 
Why is nasi lemak so addictive?

Here is why.All of us had read that our tongue has this ability to differentiate taste in its different portion.But not many knows that the food must mix with saliva to get that taste.Yes folks,no saliva no taste.But oil based food cannot mix with saliva.This is where the nose takes over --nose sends that signal to our brains.Nasi Lemak has the best of both combination....coconut milk lah.
 
I love rice mixed with peanuts, anchovies, and chilli all mixed up together, yum yum
 
hope their ikan bilis don't look like fried baby lizards that might have dropped off from the ceiling n got mixed up in their frying pan.
 
Sidetrack to coconut milk a bit, my favourite coconut milk dish is actually a dessert. It's chendol. I never fail to eat a bowl of that whenever I come across a stall in Malacca or Penang. Those are the cheap and good real stuff with fresh coconut nut milk and green chendol shreds and solid dose of brown sugar syrup. The Singapore version is mixed in assorted beans and jellies because they want to charge higher prices to justify their rentals, that I understand. They'd also stinge on the brown sugar to save costs and it's really not as good as the original, especially when packaged coconut milk is used. Nevertheless, it's still my favourite dessert.

the green chendol strands that are commonly sold are not the original chendol which is a lighter green. what we have now are just green colored chendol that lack the texture, flavour and the smoothness.

those original chendol could be found across the causeway. do be careful when ingesting them. they might not be hygienically done. but hell!! it's nice. in the old days, such chendol was usually sold fr a mamak's pushcart.

Yes, that's it. The light green ones. Usually sold at roadside stalls in Malaysia and of course, hygiene looks suspect. But for me, so far so good. I started with that stuff since a kid when visiting grandaunt in Malacca. She'd be sure to make that stuff at home. Too bad she's gone now. I have to rely on roadside stalls.
