As long as the person is good looking, (and many of the chup chengs are), half the battle is won. The other half depends on a combination of luck and talent.

Grace Wong Announces Departure From TVB

1639926990883.png

It is farewell for actress Grace Wong (王君馨) from TVB screens, as the 35-year-old announces her official departure from the station on December 18! Earlier, she was rumored to be displeased with her placement in publicity poster and teaser video for new drama I’ve Got Power <超能使者>, in which she was sidelined to make way for co-star Tiffany Lau (劉穎鏇). This was reportedly due to contract renewal disagreements with TVB, and rumors of her leaving escalated when she absented herself from the yearly TVB Sales Expo showcasing 2022 dramas.

On the morning of December 18 online, the 35-year-old updated her social with a a photo and wrote cheekily, “I’ve graduated!” Posing against the TVB 55th year anniversary backdrop while donning a graduation gown with a square graduation cap, Grace touched her cheeks with both hands and a smiling expression.

Entering the entertainment industry after she clinched first runner-up at the Miss Hong Kong 2007 pageant, Grace described how her time at TVB felt like a journey of growth from childhood to high school, and said she was grateful for the different experiences she has had at the station – from pageantry, hosting, emceeing to acting, adding that it is difficult for her to pick her favorite from singing, dancing and acting as all of these gave her satisfaction.

She went on to thank her colleagues and production crew personnel, naming her artiste managers, the producers and directors and TVB executive Virginia Lok (樂易玲) for giving her acting opportunities. Rounding off the emotional post, Grace recalled that her first day at TVB was on the fifth of May (5/5), which was also her 21st birthday, and that her last day coincided with TVB’s 55th anniversary milestone. Ending on a thankful note, she wrote, “It’s been a great journey here and I wouldn’t have changed it for anything because it made me into the person I am today! Thank you TVB!”

Criticized for her hosting of programme Gourmet Secret Agent <日日有食神> back in 2009, Grace had said back then, “I realize that if you do well in this industry, you can do no wrong. However if you don’t do well, you’ll be yelled yet and taken over by someone else. It’s like they threw you in the garbage can.”

A member of the “virgin pack” which also includes Linda Chung (鍾嘉欣), Leann Li (李亞男 ) and Eliza Sam (岑麗香), Grace had won Most Popular Female Character at the 2016 Anniversary Awards for her role as Fa Man in A Fist Within Four Walls <城寨英雄>. Keen to develop her singing career, she self-financed her songs and music videos as an independent singer under the moniker “G. Racie” in 2020, and has released two singles so far.

Nominated for Favorite Actress at the upcoming TVB Awards 2021 for The Forgotten Day <失憶24小時 >, Grace will also be seen in upcoming dramas I’ve Got the Power and Chinatown <鐵拳英雄>, which is helmed by the production team behind A Fist Within Four Walls, and is expected to be aired in January 2022 after months of being shelved.

This is my favourite series starring Grace Wong.

Alvin Chau’s Wife Goes After Mandy Lieu

1640091939335.png

With his arrest on suspicion of illegal cross-border gambling activities, the romantic entanglements of Macau gambling tycoon and Suncity Group founder Alvin Chau (周焯華) became the talk of town once again. In 2014, he started an extramarital affair with Malaysian-American model Mandy Lieu (劉碧麗), who eventually bore him four children – three girls and a boy. Despite this, Alvin’s legal wife Heidi Chan (陳慧玲) still reigns as his actual wife.

Mandy Mortgages Off Their “Love Nest”
Since his arrest, Alvin has been rejected bail and detained by Macau authorities. In early November before his arrest, Mandy reportedly signed documents to mortgage the two’s high-rise Mid-levels apartment, their “love nest” worth $120 million, to help with his financial woes. Put out for sale, the unit’s price has fallen to $105 million. The apartment had reportedly been paid off at one go by Alvin back in 2014 as a romantic gift for Mandy, with no bank mortgage taken up. Mandy is now based in England where she relocated with her kids, after receiving a break-up fee of $300 million HKD from the billionaire.

Heidi Seeks Legal Team, Investigates Mandy’s Background

Meanwhile, Heidi has also kept a low-profile on social media since the tycoon’s arrest. Sources has it that Heidi intends to retrieve billion-dollar worth of assets from Mandy, whom she still begrudges for her husband’s affair. Heidi’s close friend revealed that she has hired a team of lawyers to investigate thoroughly into Mandy’s assets in Hong Kong or overseas, to try and uncover any loopholes during transactions made, or to find any trace of evidence about his cash transactions so assets can be proven as his, to enable her litigation efforts.

According to insiders, as early as years back, Heidi had consulted a renowned geomancer in an attempt to thwart her husband’s persistent extramarital affair. The source said, “Heidi is very chummy with the famed geomancer in Hong Kong and Macau, and will consult him about small and big matters of the home or any business challenge,” Besides having hired the geomancy expert to thwart her husband’s “rotten romantic luck” to chase away the third party, many disciples and supporters of the geomancer in areas as far off as Southeast Asia, have reportedly helped to dig up any useful information about Mandy’s background since she is from Malaysia, to uncover more about her parents and even grandparents, all done to help Heidi.

Grace Wong announces departure from TVB

22 Dec - Grace Wong recently announced that she is "graduating" from TVB.

The actress shared the news of her departure on social media last weekend with a photo of her in a graduation robe and cap, saying that leaving the company felt like some sort of a graduation as she has gone from being a pageant queen, working as a host, to starting her acting career with the company.

"Everyone asks me: What do you like most about singing, dancing and acting? If you stop for a while and think about it, do you have to pick a point? Regardless of whether it's singing, acting or dancing, I won't stop because all three have the same challenges and satisfaction!" she wrote.

Grace also thanked all her colleagues in TVB who taught her how to act and to be a better person, as well as the directors and producers who gave her the opportunities.

"It's been a great journey here and I wouldn't have changed it for anything because it made me into the person I am today!" she added.

Grace, who is also a singer using the moniker G.Racie, still has two more series that have yet to be aired with TVB; the Jazz Boon produced "Chinatown" and "I've Got the Power".

Perhaps Grace will be focusing on her singing career.

Vivian Hsu’s Husband Defends Her in Leehom Wang’s Cheating Scandal

1640358258959.png

Leehom Wang’s (王力宏) image crashed when his ex-wife Lee Jinglei (李靚蕾) revealed that he is a serial cheater in their eight-year marriage. The singer was accused of having multiple affairs, including with a married woman suspected to be Taiwanese actress Vivian Hsu (徐若瑄). After Vivian issued three statements with little impact, her husband stepped forward to defend her over the controversy.

n her social media posts, Vivian stated, “I did not intrude in Wang and Lee’s marriage, and did not have any secret meetups.” She called the singer to step forward to explain the situation, but Leehom announced temporarily withdrawing from the entertainment industry. Although he apologized for not “managing this marriage properly” and disappointing his family and fans, he did not explicitly clarify for Vivian.

Jinglei’s unexpected post on December 21 again brought Vivian back into the spotlight. When gossip spread that Leehom was involved in a foursome, which implicated Taiwanese stars, Blackie Chen (陳建州) and Christine Fan (范瑋琪), Jinglei clarified upon the couple’s request, “As far as I know, Blackie Chen and Christine Fan did not have any improper relationships with Mr. Wang.” Many speculated that Jinglei purposely excluded Vivian from her post to allude to her infidelity.

For days, Vivian’s husband Sean Lee (李雲峰) remained silent throughout the controversy. On December 23, his law firm issued a statement on his behalf. Although he is sorry to hear about Leehom and Jinglei’s divorce, Sean is most heartbroken to see these accusations directed at his wife. He stated the need to stand up for his wife, as these rumors have heavily impacted her mental health and their family. He hopes that the cyberbullying will stop, and his wife would not be slandered any further.

“I am not a public figure, but as Vivian’s other half, it is my responsibility to stand up for her. I know her, so I trust her. All these accusations need to come to an end. I will not let people hurt my wife and my family. Thank you for everyone’s support and care,” Sean stated.

It is understood that Vivian had 11 endorsements on hand, working with home electronics, mobile game, real estate, eyewear, and more brands. However, the eyewear brand had quietly dropped its collaboration with Vivian, but it remains to be seen whether her remaining endorsement contracts will stay intact.

Perhaps Grace will be focusing on her singing career.

Did Yoyo Chen and Vincent Wong Melt the Ice in Their Marriage?

1640617069509.png

Married for 10 years, Yoyo Chen (陳自瑤) and Vincent Wong’s (王浩信) marital issues have frequently surfaced in the news. Neither has responded to divorce rumors, but the ice may finally be melting due to recent agreeable behavior between the couple.

In 2019, Vincent purchased a HK$33 million home and left Yoyo’s name off the property title. When Vincent won TVB Best Actor in 2020, Yoyo’s expression remained blank during his acceptance speech even when he thanked her on stage. Fueling the gossip is their cold attitude, as they rarely communicate on social media or post about each other.

With Yoyo’s career picking up this year, Vincent has indicated his encouragement. The actress returned the favor and mentioned Vincent’s new movie Sniper Army <兵王之絕境狙殺>, after witnessing his hard efforts and hoping to express her support.

Promoting his new movie on social media, he described the harsh filming conditions on set Xishuangbanna, Yunnan due to the extreme temperature changes. “We filmed many action-packed scenes to bring out the military aspect of the movie, which made us understand the hardships that soldiers go through. It was an unforgettable month. I am excited that I can finally share a picture of that day’s hard work with everyone. Please look forward to our movie.”

Yoyo left a comment on his post saying that she supports him, while Vincent thanked her immediately. Given that the two rarely interact online, these few words have attracted many netizens’ attention to thinking that the two have reconciled. However, there are other netizens who believe that their dialogue is too formal for a couple on good marital terms.

Earlier in October, there were already speculations that they reconciled when Vincent posted a photo of himself and his 9-year-old daughter QQ together at Disneyland. Many assumed that it was just a daddy-daughter date, but Yoyo also posted a photo of herself and daughter at Disneyland 10 days later.

Yoyo also included a photo of her breakfast during her staycation, which could feed over three people to which many believed that it was a family vacation.

Yoyo Refuses to Go On Stage with Sisley Choi

Although their marriage may have improved, there are rumors that Yoyo insisted she will not appear in the same space or drama as Sisley Choi (蔡思貝). In 2017, Vincent was linked with Sisley when they were filming Legal Mavericks <踩過界>, which gave rise to divorce rumors.

Given the trio’s sensitive history, it was surprising that TVB arranged Vincent and Sisley to walk down the red carpet together during the TVB Sales Expo. On the other hand, Yoyo was escorted by Patrick Sir (林溥來) and Hugo Wong (黃子恆), and had no interaction with Vincent before the media.
