Grace Wong Announces Departure From TVB
It is farewell for actress
Grace Wong (王君馨) from TVB screens, as the 35-year-old announces her official departure from the station on December 18! Earlier, she was rumored to be displeased with her placement in publicity poster and teaser video for new drama
I’ve Got Power <超能使者>, in which she was
sidelined to make way for co-star Tiffany Lau (劉穎鏇). This was reportedly due to contract renewal disagreements with TVB, and rumors of her leaving escalated when she absented herself from the yearly TVB Sales Expo showcasing 2022 dramas.
On the morning of December 18 online, the 35-year-old updated her social with a a photo and wrote cheekily, “I’ve graduated!” Posing against the TVB 55th year anniversary backdrop while donning a graduation gown with a square graduation cap, Grace touched her cheeks with both hands and a smiling expression.
Entering the entertainment industry after she clinched first runner-up at the Miss Hong Kong 2007 pageant, Grace described how her time at TVB felt like a journey of growth from childhood to high school, and said she was grateful for the different experiences she has had at the station – from pageantry, hosting, emceeing to acting, adding that it is difficult for her to pick her favorite from singing, dancing and acting as all of these gave her satisfaction.
She went on to thank her colleagues and production crew personnel, naming her artiste managers, the producers and directors and TVB executive
Virginia Lok (樂易玲) for giving her acting opportunities. Rounding off the emotional post, Grace recalled that her first day at TVB was on the fifth of May (5/5), which was also her 21st birthday, and that her last day coincided with TVB’s 55th anniversary milestone. Ending on a thankful note, she wrote, “It’s been a great journey here and I wouldn’t have changed it for anything because it made me into the person I am today! Thank you TVB!”
Criticized for her hosting of programme
Gourmet Secret Agent <日日有食神> back in 2009, Grace had said back then, “I realize that if you do well in this industry, you can do no wrong. However if you don’t do well, you’ll be yelled yet and taken over by someone else. It’s like they threw you in the garbage can.”
A member of the “virgin pack” which also includes
Linda Chung (鍾嘉欣),
Leann Li (李亞男 ) and
Eliza Sam (岑麗香), Grace had won Most Popular Female Character at the 2016 Anniversary Awards for her role as
Fa Man in
A Fist Within Four Walls <城寨英雄>. Keen to develop her singing career, she
self-financed her songs and music videos as an independent singer under the moniker “G. Racie” in 2020, and has released two singles so far.
Nominated for Favorite Actress at the upcoming TVB Awards 2021 for
The Forgotten Day <失憶24小時 >, Grace will also be seen in upcoming dramas
I’ve Got the Power and
Chinatown <鐵拳英雄>, which is helmed by the production team behind
A Fist Within Four Walls, and is expected to be aired in January 2022 after months of being shelved.
