Miss Hong Kong 2020 second runner-up, Rosita Kwok (郭柏妍), had tremendous opportunities in the past four years. Outshining even pageant winner Lisa Tse (謝嘉怡) and first runner-up Celina Harto (陳楨怡), Rosita’s breakout performance in comedy Get on a Flat <下流上車族> resulted in her Most Improved Actress win. On an unstoppable run, Rosita subsequently appeared in Big White Duel 2 (白色强人II), Narcotic Heroes (破毒强人), and The Queen of News (新聞女王), and had the chance to collaborate with big name actors such as Moses Chan (陳豪) and Charmaine Sheh (佘詩曼).

Rosita’s upcoming project will be Mahjong Orchestra <麻雀樂團>, which also stars Ali Lee (李佳芯) and Shaun Tam (譚俊彥). Portraying Shaun’s daughter in the drama, Rosita is excited for the chance to work with Shaun and Ali. “I always watched and kept up with their dramas. I feel very fortunate and lucky to have the opportunity to work with them,” Rosita said excitedly.

To prepare for her role, Rosita has to learn how to play a new instrument. “I hope to let the audience see a new side of me and can see my improvements. I’m also really looking forward to filming this project.”

With regards to being heavily promoted TVB, Rosita expressed, “I’m very thankful and appreciative to the company for giving me so many opportunities to film different dramas. I’ll work hard and do my best to hone my acting skills and continue improving.”

Natalie Tong’s Weakness is Communication

Natalie-Tong-5.jpg

Natalie Tong (唐詩詠) took a brave step outside of her comfort zone last year when she left TVB, her employer of 20 years. In a recent interview with a radio show, Natalie frankly shared she had considered leaving for six years.

Revealing her state of mind, Natalie said, “In 2015, I felt scared. After winning Best Actress in 2017, I realized the need to think carefully about what I want to do after I’m 40. This was the deadline I gave myself–I needed time to rest. I really love acting but if I continue like this, I would have hit a plateau. The characters were about the same and I was getting really tired. If I wanted to make a [change], then I needed to have enough savings so I filmed many dramas before I left. I wanted to be able to take care of my family even if I didn’t work for half a year. Since I’m a Taurus, I need to plan well before making a decision!”

Looking back at the six months since leaving TVB, Natalie felt her fear stemmed from past habits. Filming a commercial and two movies, Natalie has earned a nice sum of money. Trying new adventures to gain fresh perspectives, Natalie visited child brides in Bangladesh last August. The trip made her rethink her childhood. “The girls there were self sacrificing. After seeing them forced into marriages with strangers, it made me cherish the people around me. They really wanted to study to better the lives of their family. On the other hand, I gave up on furthering my education in my youth to earn money. I did many things that were self serving. After my parents divorced during the financial crisis, many people came to our home to collect debts which made me realize the problems that occur when there was no money.”

While working at TVB, Natalie’s busy filming schedule prevented her from travelling with her father. “I recently went on a trip with my father and brother to Japan for the first time. One night, I was eating alone with my father and although we didn’t talk much, it was the first time we actually bonded. I wasted 20 years. I want to take my father to different places in the future. He’s already 80 years old and had never travelled before. I hope we can have more of these memories together and not regret anything in the end.”

Although Natalie was nicknamed the “Best Girlfriend in the World,” her past relationships ended for different reasons. She was too focused on work and did not know how to communicate with her partner. Once her bottom line was breached, she would choose to leave. “My weakest point was communication. I didn’t know how to share my unhappiness with my partner. I felt that if I don’t talk about it, then it would be okay. In the end, my partner would ask why I didn’t talk about it. When we had argued, the media coincidentally asked us how our relationship was. I didn’t want to reveal the truth and didn’t know how to answer. This led to additional pressure and friction.”

Single since 2017, Natalie feels she has matured and recognized her shortcomings. She is ready to welcome a new long-lasting relationship that is built on communication.

Roger Kwok and Cindy Au Led Separate Lives Before Divorce

Roger-Kwok-Cindy-Au.jpg

Married for 18 years, Roger Kwok (郭晉安) and Cindy Au (歐倩怡) suddenly announced their divorce last week. As speculations over the reason for their divorce grew, Cindy’s past comments about their marriage became a source for public dissection. Her individualism, life values, and career focus point to possible contention in their marriage.

In last year’s interview, Cindy openly responded to questions regarding Roger and her differences. She explained, “I believe everyone is an individual. When you reach the end of your life and look back, what crosses your mind as something you want to do but never got the chance to?” Now reaching mid-life, Cindy expressed, “I am 44 years old right now, so I have maybe about 20 good years left. In these 20 years, I want to live for myself rather than live for others.”

Possessing two bachelor’s degrees, one master’s degree, and other certifications, Cindy works as a full-time nutritionist. While married, Cindy could not cook for the family because of her full-time job and getting home at 8 p.m. “There wasn’t enough time for me to make dinner. Roger hired his niece to help with cooking meals.”

Despite her expertise in nutrition, Cindy candidly admitted, “I tried to communicate it before, such as how calcium or iron can be better absorbed during meals. After I said it though, some people’s expressions changed and they were not happy about it.” On whether it was Roger or his niece who were upset, Cindy merely smiled and alluded both probably felt uncomfortable.

When asked if she had any tips to share in marriage, Cindy laughed and said, “There is none. Roger’s management company wanted him to stay active on Douyin and I didn’t understand it. I was not familiar with what the latest in the entertainment industry. I haven’t watched television in a long time, so I don’t really know about what he did. He also did not understand what I was doing in my career due to patient confidentiality. We didn’t talk much nor see each other often. When I came home late from work, he would be already asleep.”

Looking back, Cindy’s comments hinted the couple already had separate lives for years before their divorce. Although they tried to make time for each other and salvage their marriage two years ago, their drift only grew wider over time.
