I am from the generation that grew up reading in the newspapers about this or that opposition politician bankrupted by lawsuits or fleeing overseas. It takes real courage, conviction, or foolhardiness to venture into opposition politics in Singapore. And I think for Leon Perera, the Workers’ Party’s candidate for East Coast GRC, having a supportive family keeps him brave.

As the campaign enters its last five minutes, I'd like to thank everyone with whom I have worked: the many voters of East Coast GRC and Fengshan SMC who blessed us with their warmth, their feedback and their support; the amazing Workers' Party volunteers who give of themselves for the country (like I said, you're my heroes!); my fantastic fellow candidates (I could not have asked for a better team); and my wife, my two children, my mother, my sister and all of the many, many relatives and friends who have been incredibly kind, supportive and helpful over the past few weeks of frenetic activity. I cannot thank you all enough. On Friday, the Singaporean people will decide the composition of their next Parliament. And as a Cooling Off day present, here's some artwork from my seven year-old son.

I, along with Ben Fong, my Election Agent, would like to thank all our volunteers who came forward to help in this campaign.
Thank you all for putting in your time and energy during - and even before - the 9 days of campaigning. I hope it has left you with many sweet memories, and may we be lifelong friends as we make a mark on Singapore's history.

Amazing to see how Singaporeans come together every night for a cause larger than themselves. I am a Singaporean and I am proud to call this nation, my home!

Let us look to our interests when we vote. But each of us has multiple different interests and when we vote, let us look to our most fundamental and important interests. I'd also like to remind you that our fundamental and important interests are intertwined with those of many other Singaporeans. After all, aren't we all on a ship together? So please, vote responsibly.
