Simei Sizzles!

It was great to be back in Simei for our Workers' Party rally this evening!

Together with my WP colleagues in our East Coast GRC team, we have walked the East Coast GRC and Fengshan SMC for more than 2 years, doing weekly visits and trying to visit every HDB flat and every house in the private estates in the former East Coast GRC that was opened to us. We have visited Simei on many occasions and the residents in Simei have been warm and supportive. This morning, a Simei resident even called me to wish us the best.

This evening, it was most exciting to see the field at Simei Road come alive with so many East Coast residents and fellow Singaporeans. Thank you for your warm support and encouragement. WP is nothing without the support of you the Singaporeans!

Had a great discussion today with an East Coast GRC voter about the Workers' Party's proposal for unemployment insurance primarily funded by employer/employee co-payment. Thanks for engaging with our Manifesto proposals!

[h=2]States Times Review[/h]Media/News/Publishing

Former Deputy Prime Minister and PAP candidate for Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC candidate Teo Chee Hean today (Sep 6) claimed that S$22.5 million has been handed over to the Workers' Party town council and used it as a rebuttal to Low Thia Kiang's evidence that Punggol East SMC actually went into a deficit under the PAP.

"Mr Low very dramatically showed one page of the accounts – there are 20 over pages in the accounts. If you look at the whole set, we were very careful to hand over everything that was due to our residents here. We wanted to do right for them. After we handed over all these accounts – S$22.5 million in cash – AHPETC has never submitted an unqualified set of accounts. So, the real question is … I hope this cash is properly accounted for by them."

However, the S$22.5 million in cash handed over are meant for the sinking fund and has nothing to do with the income and expenditure of the town council operations. Teo Chee Hean was trying to mislead Singaporeans into believing that Punggol East Town Council has actually a surplus instead of a deficit in fact.

Micharl Michael Still harping on AHPETC, I think the PAP is just trying to waste time avoiding the national issue, if it is so hard to understand AHPETC, y not have a debate n settle it once n for all, as the same time, the ppl can see who is telling the truth..

From up to dated, PAP had not clearly state what is the national plan for the next 5 years beside building wet market, playground n non important issue..

The ppl need to know as well that the real issue is job, population issue (I have heard that the govt is going for 10 million ppl instead of 6.9 million) CPF, GST (that the PAP , did not directly answer the question beside LHL say:"Do u think the govt is out to harm the ppl?".. To me, that is not an answer.. As long as all this national issue is not mention, the ruling party r just simply avoiding the serious issue, the PAP refused to debate show that they have something to hide, all important issue will show once they win the election..

Ppl should take election seriously n I think there r still a lot of issue that PAP had not explain.. From MRT to rat hill in bt batok etc

We to need invest more in our people, to give our people confidence in themselves and hope for the future. We need to reclaim our right as masters of our own land, and not supporting actors in a movie with a bad script.

The problem, it seems, is not just that maintenance of the MRT lines was lacking, but that SMRT and the government, which owns the rail assets, did not adequately plan for the renewal and replacement of ageing rail assets before their end-of-life. Is this what is called forward thinking and anticipating problems before they occur?

We believe a sustainable Singapore means citizen ownership in decision making, a diverse representation in Parliament, and policies which are more encompassing and compassionate. - Low Thia Khiang.

To break this vicious cycle, we must focus on the Singaporean core - to address the root cause of our low birth rate... [or] we may even see the day when Singaporeans become the minority. - Low Thia Khiang.

Yesterday on my walkabout, I was quizzed by a resident about my educational qualifications. I applaud her inquisitive nature and I hope voters do their due diligence before casting their vote for their preferred candidate. If I had known, I would have brought along my CO coin (for exceptional performance in reservist).

By the way, she was not on the look-out for a son-in-law. She was probably hoping that the best man wins in MacPherson. wink :)
On another note, I am glad that she was carrying my profile (mailed to every household) and publicising my qualifications all around the market. It does help that I spent the last nine years preparing for a nine days campaign!

Glad to meet you again.

Yesterday at Marine Terrace market, I met a young couple with 3 children (I told them that they are national heros in our era of low TFR). The mother showed me the photo of me with her youngest taken when I visited their home in Joo Chiat over a year ago.

We took another picture at the market with this cute and clever boy. Glad to see you growing up well.

Photos sent by the boy's mum. Thanks!
