We visited Simei and Simpang Bedok (Fengshan) this evening. Great to meet residents from East Coast and Fengshan. Have a great weekend!

Misconceived and disingenuous allegations abound, from certain quarters, that there must be financial mismanagement on the part of AHPETC. "Look at the deficit in AHPETC's accounts for FY 2013/14", they rant. "AHPETC has been run into the ground. The town councillors are incompetent. There must be fraud or dishonesty!" "Give us an answer for why AHPETC is in deficit!", they cry.

I can't help people who have drunk the kool-aid. For those who are reasonable, rational and objective, however, and purely for perspective, let us look at what has been disclosed in the annual reports of PAP-managed town councils. Here's a sampler:

Marine Parade's Town Council's ('MPTC') latest published Annual Report 2013/14 says that "...the financial year recorded an operating deficit of $109,168 after government grants. Without government grants, the Town Council would have incurred a higher operating deficit...".

MPTC's Annual Report for FY 2012/13 stated that "[t]he Town Council closed its financial year ended March 2013 with an operating deficit of $4.77 million before government grants...With the government grants of $6.11 million, we managed to report an operating surplus of $1.34 million".

Nee Soon Town Council's Annual Report 2013/14 states that "[t]he Town Council ended FY 2013/2014 with an operating deficit of $2.95 million before government grants. With government grants including GST subvention totalling $4.93 million after regulatory transfers, we are able to report a surplus of $1.98 million".

Do note that AHPETC has outstanding government grants withheld to it, by the government, amounting to about $14 million to-date.

But hey, don't take my word for it. Have a look for yourself. ‪#‎dont‬ believeeverythingyouhear

Good morning, Marine Parade!

We were passing through a shop under renovation when one of our helpers called us back. A man supervising the renovations in this shop came out with a real hammer and started cheering for us. Thanks for cheering us on in this hot weather.

Had a great time interacting with residents at the market and nearby flats. Have a good weekend ahead!

Thanks Jeanette, for inviting me to your SG50 BBQ this coming Tue, 25 Aug at Mandarin Gardens. I know it's a very busy time for you too. All the best for your campaign in Mountbatten. Thanks for making the arrangements which will allow me to meet more people in the condo, now part of the Marine Parade GRC. It will be a perfect opportunity for me to get to meet again some whom I have gotten to know in Mandarin Gardens as well.
Any FB friends living in Mandarin Gardens can PM me in advance if you are able to come. Will love to meet with you.
Cheers!

To all my fellow MANDARIN GARDENS residents,

I am delighted that Non-Constituency Member of Parliament Yee Jenn Jong has accepted my invitation to attend an SG50 BBQ this coming Tuesday at MG. JJ (as I call him) is keen to meet my friends and neighbours. I too am thrilled to introduce JJ to you all.

So I am specially inviting you to please come to my BBQ:
Date: Tuesday, 25 August 2015
Time: 7.30pm to 9pm

Place: Mandarin Gardens BBQ Pit No. 7.

This is a purely social event for us to get to know each other, to celebrate SG50 and to look forward to SG100!
JJ has the distinction of being the MP who has spoken up the most number of times in Parliament. So rest assured, there will be no political speeches at my BBQ, but plenty of small talk!

For catering purposes, please PM me to confirm your attendance. If you are not an MG resident but staying nearby, you are certainly welcome to join in, so long as you are a friend of an MG resident who is able to endorse your entry into MG.

JJ has a big heart for people. Here is a letter I wrote JJ in May 2011, to tell JJ how much he had inspired my father and how proud I am of my father for his determination to do his part as a citizen.

It's also about bringing people together.

Extremely grateful for all the support we have been receiving from our volunteers and residents as we continue our walks. Just over the last couple of days an old classmate I haven't seen in years came out and walked with us despite his busy work schedule. I also received a message of encouragement from my teacher from over 20 years ago.

Your support means a lot to me, thank you.

Had a good chat with these residents during this morning's walkabout at Bedok South. They had shared with us that they were looking forward to seeing more opposition voices in Parliament because it is only through a more balanced Parliament that we can build a better Singapore for all Singaporeans.

Thank you uncle, abang and kakak for your support and encouragement! Together, we shall build a better Singapore!

Glad to be involved this morning in helping with a kind act of charity by a longtime resident of Marine Terrace. For several years, she has been giving food rations to needy residents of her neighbourhood once every 2-3 months. Each time she would spent $4,000-$5,000 of her own money to buy the items for distribution. Sometimes, friends will contribute some items for inclusion into these food packs.

Today, 185 packs were distributed off to grateful residents.
Good to know of such acts of kindness by individuals.
