Smoking

the animosity that a lot of singaporeans have towards smokers is incredible. just goes to show the power of propaganda.

smoking kills
gambling kills
singapore is number 1
vote opposition = women become maids
no pap kills
cpf is for your own good
high property prices is good for you
etc etc

peace brothers. learn to live with people that are different from you

I am actually fine with smokers in general, except those who vehemently claim that they are not addicted, and that they smoke because it is their way of life, culture, it's shiok/cool etc; as well as those smokers who downplay the obvious harm of smoking.

I have a dim view of these people because they are the ones who enable the next generation of addicts to emerge.

These mentally blocked smokers will start to question your motives. they'll start with why not target on other vices like gambling, drinking etc etc. I have no idea why they dont want to deal with their problems first.
If people drink and don't cause trouble later, and people gamble and can afford to lose their money, what's the harm to others?
What I'm saying is that the moment a guy smokes, he irritates the non smokers around him who may be sensitive to cigarette smoke.

Ban cigarette sales like banning narcotics is the best.

Me neither?, my own mother smoke, my uncle smoke....there are smokers in the family. I even roll cigarettes for my mum, before she discovered Rothman of Pall Mall & Benson & Hedges..even fill up pipes with tobacco for my uncle..empty his pipe..fill hid tobacco pouch...

I have never, ever, touch a cigarette or tobacco in my life..and have always wonders, why people smoke?

Wow!! your family smoke, and you don't but you inhale second smoke that
make it worst, second hand smoke cause Lung cancer!!

I think this is destiny. I have seen an ex body builder, very healthy being being tormented by cancer. There are other cases I have heard also. the thing is this, everybody dies,it's just a matter of time.

That's the problem with people especially from this tiny little dot singgi that called itself a republic. Sometimes I wonder this people have a brain up there instead of a kidney.

They dont seem to have a mind of their own and actually believing in those propaganda bullshits. How pathetic isnt it.

All life have its destiny, no one lives forever. There are all sorts of factors that causes diseases and death. The word "Cancer" is just but a word the medical profession came up with when they cant deal with it, simple as that.

Dont believe too much what researchers says, they made their living dong what they do and writing what they believe. Inhaling second hand smoke cause lung cancer, that's a tall order. There are more toxic pollutants in the air around us, why no researhers speculating on that.

Winston Churchill. Deng Xiaoping. Ring any bell? Japanese smokers' life-spans? Insurance actuary is most specific and won't bluff because it concerns their bottomline. Smoking is estimated to most likely (not surely) reduce life-span by 3 years (at most). Second-hand smoke is not in question. Who doesn't inhale carbon monoxide in urbanised societies? That's already configured into general actuarial tables; everyone's assumed to be a second-hand smoke inhaler when calculating premiums.

Anyway, there's no nutritional benefit whatsoever to smoke. Ban tobacco is best. Settle all questions, no need argue, like narcotics, chewing gum etc. Will government do it? In fact, the annoyance accusation makes no sense when compared to narcotics. The junkie hide one corner at home to have his fix annoys who? He dies his business. People who chew gum in their mouths annoy who? Why ban? They spit chewed gum around recklessly. That's true. The offence is littering, not chewing gum.

Why not ban tissue paper too? Tissue paper sellers annoy people. Inconsiderate and idiotic people throw tissue paper into ashstray on top of dustbin instead of into the dustbin (fire hazard), just like idiotic smokers throw cigarette butts into dustbin without ashtray. Where do these people from both sides of the argument come from? I also don't know. Live with it or ban it.

One word: ADDICTION.

No challenge on that. The addiction is on nicotine, there're anti-nicotine gum to chew that curbs the urge. What then, the habits remains and before long people will be puffing again.

That is why Big Tobacco Company like Philips Morris, BAT, Altria, Reynolds etc NEED NOT even bother to advertise or asked for celebrities' endorsement. Pure obedience addiction just drive smokers to buy their product WILLINGLY (Like bees to honey) however tobacco is NOT honey. Marlborough-brand is a good example. Saw many smoker friends are this company faithful supporter even though they are UNWILLING , they never really thought about how much they had contribute to Philips Morris profit annually.
However, guess who is the BIGGEST gainer of this tobacco-trade? The Gov of-course! Doing nothing at all, they gain 600+% in tax! So the gov would on pretext would says smoking is heavenly wrath but in real-terms is heavenly wealth!
That is why I choose to quit smoking many many moons ago! For my own health, my wallet and my surrounding people good. This help me to quit

Smoking is no different than taking drugs, or having a drink (liquor).

The mind is so restless that it needs some distraction.

Any smokers here?
My apologies and I have no intention of offending anyone, but I can't understand the obsession with smoking, especially among china nationals.
I was in china recently, and some people even smoked in the lifts.
They would light up after a meal, after a meeting, sometimes during a meeting, during a coffee break, in the queue, at the mall, while surfing the internet, while scratching their balls, etc etc.

What's the purpose of smoking anyway? Is it just an addiction that cannot be stopped? Or is it a social gesture?
Do the smokers realize that they are causing a lot of discomfort to the non smokers who find cigarette smoke very irritating? Or do they simply not care?

Can any smokers please explain or any non smokers care to comment?

Many people have successfully quit. Why can't you? What is it that they have that you don't have? I'll tell you what: FOCUS, DETERMINATION, GUTS. They also will never give crap excuses.

I would not say no different, drugs and alcohol dependency is of a higher severity. It's not just the urge on the mind alone but also physical withdrawal symtoms. While tobacco, it's just the urge on the mind, hardly any withdrawal at all.

I don't have any animosity towards smokers, only when they blow smoke at me.
I have an aversion to cigarette smoke.

HAHAHAHAHAHHA
Like what i said earlier, smokers will pin the blame on other vices such as drug abuse & alcoholism to mask their own problems.
Thank you for proving my point right again.

You still find it difficult to call smoking an addiction.
