I'm a smoker as well, and I agree with you on pushing the smokers to the corner. That is also why I find smokers more honest, friendly and cheerful. In every company I've worked with, the smoking area is where people from the MD to the parking attendant gathered. Its where friendship are made and sometimes even ideas/work/help are sort at. Most people actually have no idea that smoking is a habit, not just physically, but also mentally as well.

I am a smoker and a chained one too. It's not an obsession, it's just a habit and with it an addiction to nicotine. The addiction can be stopped but habits die-hard.

Honestly I dont know how irritating tobacco smoke is to non smokers. But just because smokers are already a minority and with banning here and there we are already pushed to a corner, isnt that enough. It's a free world, I believe smokers do deserves the rights to that freedom too.

If Taoist joss and incense "companies" are allowed (or forced) to show the chemical content of emission during a lunar 7th month session, there may be racial riots from the Malays, even supported by non-Taoist Chinese.

Let others burn or smoke whatever they want as long as they cause you no harm. Nobody forces anybody to go to a Taoist temple inferno or smokey pub. You know it's bad for you, avoid it. The smokers also have to do their part. Be considerate. In places where's it's understood that non-smokers are in majority, e.g. lifts, buses, cinemas etc. don't lightup.

How to explain the joys of sex with words? I'd rather have a colourful youth than a few more years of old age. But I think that there are alot of other harmful stuff that we consume or are exposed everyday, just that we are not aware. Anyway, i.e. carbon monoxide from vehicles. Anybody die from being in a room full of smokers in a KTV? But people die from vehicle exhuast. The list goes on...

My apologies and I have no intention of offending anyone, but I can't understand the obsession with smoking, especially among china nationals.
I was in china recently, and some people even smoked in the lifts.
They would light up after a meal, after a meeting, sometimes during a meeting, during a coffee break, in the queue, at the mall, while surfing the internet, while scratching their balls, etc etc.

What's the purpose of smoking anyway? Is it just an addiction that cannot be stopped? Or is it a social gesture?
Do the smokers realize that they are causing a lot of discomfort to the non smokers who find cigarette smoke very irritating? Or do they simply not care?

Can any smokers please explain or any non smokers care to comment?

In this modern industrialized world more toxic chemicals are polluting the air and killing more people than one can ever imagine. It's just that smokers are a monority, we cant challenge them on toxicity, tobacco is just medical while other toxin are economics. Who speaks louder, you tell me.

I think most people knows that it is an addiction and a habit. They are not the same but closely related. It is very difficult to break a habit, much less one that is rooted in chemical addiction.
