Re: Singapore Flyer Breakdowns.....Maybe The Real Story Behind......

its overheat lar.. bro.. u see the place they put the wheel.. so hot and humid.. which engine can take it.. unless u spend a lot of cooling system. haiz... damn moron..

Motor are design to operate in even hotter environment like middle east or the Arizona desert.

Any big motors must have internal and external thermal protection.

Even undersize, the thermal protection will kick in.

Unless, It is undersize but operator remove or bypass the thermal protection to keep it going.

Re: Now we know why it is called SG FLYER

"The Singapore Flyer, worth about S$240 million (US$171 million), was a private venture backed mainly by German investors and built by Mitsubishi Corp and Takenaka Corp of Japan."

You mean our world class gov and engineers never audit and approve the design and safety contingency? After all, public safety is part of gov responsibility right? See how they Taichi their way out of accountability.

No world class, it is like having many hours lapsed before they announced Mas Selamt has escape captivity and many months still no news of his whereabout. If america can conquer afghanistan and Iraq and the president is merelyl drawing USD200K annually, why do we allow our pap to draw millions of dollar salary and can't even conquer a single man in this tiny dot. Poor security and time management and is not the end of it\.

Re: Over 100 people trapped in Singapore Flyer

The Australian visitor is probably not aware that in Singapore, like any other third world country, many things are hush hush and top secret. It's a culture of the ruling elite to keep pertinent information from the public. It enables them to sweep a lot of dirt under the carpet and to fool the public with propaganda from a controlled press. Somehow, this culture has spread to the top management in many commercial entities too.

What commercial entities..? They are all extension of Govt departments.

In singkeepore, you want to find an absolute private entity "都几难"..

Re: Singapore Flyer broke down, what happen if...

Problem not experienced in other countries problably no such problem of ferris wheel breakdown occurred before. So 10 yr series did not provide the answers to the problems, therefore Singapore math and science whiz kids engineers in the control room don't know how the solution.
d.

That's a good one..

The Straits Times headline: Flyer Drama, 173 rescued after being stranded in capsules for several hours. Too pai seh to mention 6 hours, isit..?

It took them 6 hours to rescue 173 passesgers - We don't expect this type of standard from the best & the brightest who are paid astronomical amount of salary.

Oei...that's a unusual strong hated feeling you got to the country...are you still there in SG or have you emigrated for good:confused:
Oh,you should never take Leong San -the boss of dis Kopi-Tiam seriously.

First of all,he is ex and now multi-millionaire fr Australia.

Secondly, his daily fun right now is to write 6 pro-PAP comments praising PAP to high sky and the remaining 4 condenming PAP to hell

I dont see anything wrong with that,do you?

This is clearly a very flexible mind who would do extremly well in dis CON age.

Feng shui masters turn 'wheel of fortune' in Singapore's favour
Aug 8, 2008

SINGAPORE (AFP) — Officials in Singapore have changed the direction of the world's biggest observation wheel because feng shui masters said it was taking good fortune away from the city, a report said on Saturday.

The Singapore Flyer, which opened earlier this year, had originally revolved so that it rose to face the business district and went down overlooking the sea, the Strait Times newspaper said.

However, masters of the ancient Chinese art of geomancy convinced the wheel's management to reverse it so that it was not taking fortune away from the city.

"A number of feng shui masters had approached us to tell us that the Flyer is on the perfect site to pick up the good qi (energy) flowing into Singapore, but it was going in the wrong direction," said Florian Bollen, the Singapore Flyer's chairman.

"The Flyer was going against the sun and taking fortune away from Singapore."

Bollen likened the change to the "completion of a perfect movie" to give a better story, but added that it cost the company a "six figure sum," the report said.

For visitors now riding one of the wheel's 28 air-conditioned capsules, their view starts with beaches and housing estates in the east and culminates with a vista of the business centre.

At 165 metres (545 feet), or 42 storeys, the Singapore Flyer is 30 metres higher than Britain's London Eye, said builders Great Wheel Corp.

Despite being a modern city Singapore is a largely ethnic Chinese nation, where traditions still hold sway.

S'pore Flyer riding high on strong pre-opening outlook
Buoyant ticket sales and expected returns spur chairman to raise stake in iconic project to 90% By Alvin Foo

'It'll be an iconic development... We're going to have fireworks on New Year's Day, companies will use if to promote products.'
MR BOLLEN, on various ideas for the 165m high observation wheel -- ST PHOTO LIM SIN THAI

BUMPER ticket sales and a higher forecast return have prompted Singapore Flyer chairman Florian Bollen to raise his stake in the $240 million observation wheel from 60 per cent to 90 per cent.

He told The Straits Times last Friday that he has bought the 30 per cent stake of Melchers - a German trading company - for an undisclosed sum.

The deal, estimated to be worth $40 million, was done via AAA Equity Holdings, a private investment vehicle headed by Mr Bollen.

O&P Management, which is in charge of the project's development management, owns the remaining 10 per cent.

Overseeing big projects is nothing new to Mr Bollen, a millionaire who was formerly a Hollywood producer - he produced blockbuster films such as Terminator and Basic Instinct.

The London-based German said of his new Flyer investment: 'That's due to the growing confidence we have in this project. Pre-sales are much better than expected.

'We're 100 per cent leased, and market sentiment tells us this is going to be the most iconic new attraction in Singapore over the next few years.'

Melchers general manager Alexander Melchers said: 'We like to complete the project till a certain stage... this will free up resources to develop new ideas. This is a case where the majority shareholder raises his stake.'

He will remain a Singapore Flyer director.

The initial signs are promising for the giant wheel, with its 80,000 sq ft of food and beverage and retail space fully leased.

And more than 500,000 people have already booked to ride the Flyer once operations start in March.

Ms Patsy Ong, managing director of Adval Brand Group, the Flyer's exclusive ticketing agent, said: 'Our sales have exceeded initial projections by 70 per cent. Our pre-bookings are almost full. We've also set aside about 20 per cent of tickets for walk-in customers.'

A ride on the Flyer - the world's tallest observation wheel at 165m, or 42 storeys high - costs $29.50 and will last about 37 minutes. It can hold a maximum of 784 people.

Mr Bollen, 42, expects a crowd of 2.5 million to four million to ride the Flyer in its first year.

'It'll be an iconic development... We're going to have fireworks on New Year's Day, companies will use it to promote products.'

He expects the project to break even with a positive cash flow in its first year, as well as yield an annual return of '10 per cent to 15 per cent' - higher than the 6 per cent to 10 per cent he had forecast earlier.

Mr Bollen also revealed that the group is 'in discussions with a number of companies' to sell naming rights for the Flyer.

'We're looking for a strong partner before we give the naming rights,' he said.

There are also plans to allow companies to sponsor the 28 individual capsules, which will involve adorning them in corporate colours.

As with his earlier Hollywood blockbusters, Mr Bollen hopes to shoot another successful flick with the Flyer.

He said: 'In the film industry, we're always looking for a good story. The Singapore Flyer is an extremely good story in the making. That's why we're increasing our stake.'

I hope those affected will sue them for what happened.
If LHL had just been a colonel he would be made the hero directing the operation. Remember the cable car incident at between Mt Faber and Sentosa? One was made hero while others died in the accident.

Why didn't they think to send in a Colonel what did the Eniwetok at Sentosa in 1983, a Second Permanent Secretary (Defence) was also on hand to take the blame should the whole operation turned out a disaster. The rescue operation took more than 5 hours then, in high wind and rising tide. If my memory didn't fail me, it was such a success he was promoted to PM. I swear his father being LKY has nothing, absolutely nothing, to do with it.

And, oh, the Second Permanent Secretary (Defence) I mentioned is Philip Yeo.

Now who's the PM in waiting this time?
