My key message at the
#SingaporeEnergyLecture today: Singapore is going bigger on our climate ambitions. We aim to peak our emissions earlier, reduce to around 60 million tonnes of CO2 in 2030, and get to net zero by 2050.
The transition to net zero will require ambitious and collective action. So, I’ve also shared our national hydrogen strategy, which will guide our approach in developing low-carbon hydrogen as a new frontier in our efforts to green our power and industry sectors.
We had earlier announced plans to convert our vehicle population to cleaner energy by 2040, and will complement this by turning Jurong Lake District into a world-class sustainability district, with all new developments there achieving net zero emissions by around 2045. We will also aim for net zero for the entire public sector within this timeframe.
We are working even harder to make Singapore a green home for everyone. That’s what the Singapore story has always been about - taking proactive actions to transform our constraints into opportunities, so that we can continue to build a better Singapore for the next generation!
