Singapore appointed 2 idiots to lead the task force.

Amidst an uncertain and potentially fractured world, Singapore strives to remain a bastion of stability, opportunity and innovation.
Had a fruitful dialogue with global business leaders at the #ForbesGlobalCEO Conference on Monday.
I was asked about what might be Singapore’s defining attributes or brand - for me, it is trust. We are fortunate in Singapore to be a high trust society - there is a high level of trust within Singapore and also with our international partners. We must continue to strengthen our social compact, to build up this reservoir of trust, and to be a reliable and trusted node in the changing global order.

Glad to have caught up with Indonesian SOE Minister Erick Thohir last evening. Pak Erick and I last met in May earlier this year during my visit to Jakarta. He is in Singapore to speak at the Forbes Global CEO Conference, and I am sure his insights resonated with the participants.
We had a short but fruitful conversation on domestic and regional developments, and exchanged views on how Singapore and Indonesia can deepen our collaboration across various fields.

Dropped by the Celebrating SG Women roving exhibition - it's by MSF Singapore to create more awareness on the White Paper on Singapore Women's Development.
Glad that Singapore has made progress on gender equality, moving up the ranking on the UN Gender Inequality Index at 7th place, as the only Asian country among the top 10. This is a testament to everyone’s efforts to work towards a fairer and more inclusive society where women and men partner each other as equals - so both can pursue their aspirations to the fullest.
There's still more to be done - let's continue to empower, protect and uplift SG women.

Lawrence wants to uplift workers.

Amidst the global uncertainties, our commitment to uplifting workers and improving lives does not change. And a key part of this is to ensure sustainable wage growth and reduce income inequality.
We must all chip in to make this happen - workers must be open to adopting new ways of doing things and upgrading their skills; employers must reward their workers adequately, and invest in their training
The National Wages Council has been an indispensable institution, in our unique system of tripartism. And I am confident that it will continue to play an important role in bringing partners together to champion fair and inclusive growth for all. Congrats to the NWC on its 50th anniversary!

Thank you, Mr Peter Seah, the current NWC chairman, whose steady leadership especially through COVID-19 has cemented the NWC’s integral role in our nation building, and renewed the trust between tripartite partners.

Prof Lim Chong Yah took up the challenge of setting up NWC with no precedent to draw from. His contributions as the pioneering Chairman for almost 30 years allowed NWC to be a force for change and laid the foundation for harmonious tripartite relations. Thank you, Professor Lim.

We have ‘Wee’, ‘Ng’, ‘Huang’, and ‘Wong’, but at the end, the Mandarin word is the same — 黄. That means we share similar ancestral roots. But here in Singapore, we have also forged our own distinctive Singaporean Chinese identity. It is an identity that is part of our multiracial, multicultural society.
Last week, I joined the official opening of the new Huang Clan Singapore Association 新加坡黄氏总会’s building. The Huang Clan Association is among the oldest clan associations here in Singapore. They, including many Chinese clan associations, play an important role in safeguarding and recognising the identity of Singaporean Chinese.
Congratulations to Huang Clan on this important milestone. I hope the clan will continue to build itself, and help build our community in Singapore.

When a person who has done well gives back voluntarily, that in turn strengthens the spirit of community and fellowship. It also and enables wealth to be recycled and invested back into society, to expand opportunities for the more disadvantaged and vulnerable groups.
That's how we can strengthen our social compact and continue to uphold trust in society.
So I was glad to speak at the Philanthropy Asia Summit organised by Temasek Trust and Temasek Foundation. And to share some thoughts on how we can strengthen Singapore as a giving nation and a centre for philanthropy in Asia.
I hope we can see more coming forward to give in an impactful manner and make a difference in Singapore and region!

Commemorated International Day of Older Persons yesterday with the People's Action Party Seniors Group.
It’s inspiring to see how much perspective and positivity we all stand to gain from our seniors. Many of our Party veterans and former MPs that I chatted with yesterday continue to stay active and make a difference in their communities in their own ways – age is no matter!
To our seniors: you have built the Singapore that we all enjoy today. Even as we take Singapore forward, we will make sure that you are supported, cared for, not left behind. This is our commitment to you.
