OK guys. Will go Zzzz liaoz. Tomorrow need to go north in the 7 early 8 morning and come back in the evening or day after tomorrow.

Have a pleasant evening! ;)

Sawadee Krup to all reading here.

Its a cold but sunny morning here, about 12 degC. What a wonderful day. I am feeling very happy for these two nights of retreat as I am fully recharged and clear of my mission and vision for 2012. Time to go home soon. Will stop by some farms to buy some fresh vegetables on the way home later especially fresh mushrooms. Can cook for mom later, so happy she is visiting me today till after New Year.

Have a wonderful week ahead all you guys.

Yes, it is. Especially the newer bikes (those with temporary red color license plate). However, can minimize the chances of bike getting stolen by:

1. Do not park in quiet place
2. Get a strong pad lock
3. Do not leave ignition keys on bike even it's for a short while (example, go 7-11 buy cigarettes or drinks)
4. Do not pass your key to any strangers. eg. car wash. (Possiblity of key duplication)
5. Go to only reputable bike repair shop. (Possibility of key duplication)
6. Always get a motorcycle parking card when in shopping malls. You need to return the card when exiting from the mall.
7. Get the not so popular bikes (Honda Wave 110/125 is the most popular bike)
8. Always get a motorbike insurance that cover theft.

I used to have a bike during NS & a friend showed me how easy it is to by pass the ignition key :)

Take tuk tuk lah LOL

LOS may have reasonably good public transport but if one lives long-term in places like Pattaya a bike would be very convenient. Especially for marketing, exploring the ulu places, etc.

After all one of the reasons many are thinking of leaving Spore is that car/bike ownership is not considered a luxury :)

Taking over my friend's Yamaha FINO (light blue) this week just to put in the house and maid can use it to go out within 3km to buy stuffs. But next week I insist she go take a license first before mounting it. I think I go take mine too cos keep dreaming of a Honda Fury

Some don't even use the key. Come with their pickup and lift the entire bike onto the pickup and go.

Bike is a must for exploring the sois. For exploring the neighboring provinces, a pickup truck is recommended. Pickup also useful for moving your bike and barangs if you decide to move to another province.

Very easy to get the license. Mentioned it another thread. Need to take eye test and reflex test, theory test (computerised: pass 22 out of 30 MCQ) and practical test.
In my opinion, theory test most difficult. Need to pass 22 questions out of 30. I pass on the second attempt. Practical test is a joke. Pattaya also much easier to pass the practical test.

Prior to getting my motorcycle license, I have been riding for 2 years without problem. Only get the license for insurance purpose. Those with class 2B don't even need to take the test, just convert it using a international driving permit from AA (think it's SGD 10 or 20).

A little bit on riding/driving in Pattaya. Pattaya is not really big. There are only a few main roads but many many sois.

3 most dangerous categories:
1) Many farangs who have never ride a bike back home find it exciting to rent and ride one of these innocent looking bikes. Most rental outlets don't even ask for a riding/driving license.
2) Local young punks (15-20 years old local kids).
3) Motorcycle taxi. They are experience riders but many times over confident.

When riding in Pattaya, always be prepare for the unexpected. Song Taews and cars cutting into your lane. Also be expecting many who go against the direction of traffic. A helmet is a must.

And there is absolutely no need to speed. Most fatal cases are due to high speed accidents.

I, myself is guilty of many traffic violation. Now, can even use handphone while riding. :p And yes, I still drink and ride/drive but ride/drive very slowly.

Sawasdee Krup Pii Chonburifc. I will be taking my bike license next month too. I understand that its an all day event. I will take test at the Patumthani Transport Office not in Mochit.

If test centre not too far from your place, ride your own bike there. There are some shops outside the test centre that rent bike for THB 150 if you do not want to ride your own bike.

If possible, bring along someone who can read Thai because most of the questions are from the Thai booklet. The English booklet is not too useful. Yes, you will need to memorise some Thai word road signs like หยุด (STOP) and ลดความเร็ว (REDUCE SPEED). Also, pay attention on the stopping distance at junction, under the bridge, bus stops and hospitals, etc.

Take note there are also many KPO lurking around the theory/practical areas who will offer 'assistance' to get your license should you fail in any of the tests. My advice, stay away from them. I failed my theory on first attempt in the morning, retook the test in the afternoon and pass. Came back the second day for practical. If you complete your theory test, but no time for practical test, they will give you a slip to come again tomorrow. My understanding is that there are only 2 sessions per day for practical, morning and afternoon session).

Have copies of your passport, visa, entry stamp and work permit ready. You also need to get a medical certificate (date not more than 1 month from test date). Medical certificate is about THB 100-200 and just go to any clinic.
