Renovation to your homes

Ic so u didn't really use one stop interior design. But in terms of cost, the freelance on full looked for, is it really cheaper by a lot compare to one stop? Are u satisfied with the work design and workmanship?

I already have the quotation from hong lee, dry and wet kitchen they quoted about rm2xk, now waiting for them to come and measure for master bed room to do the walk in closet waredrobe and sliding door. Estimated all these add together will be around rm4xk. I still need to do the living room tv wall and cupboard, and courtyard. Lastly is downlight, painting and false ceiling. Hopefully rm7xk to max 80k can settle all these. Of course my ideal budget is rm6xk :P

Your kitchen furniture must be quite high end. My wet+dry kitchen budget is only $8k RM :p

Emm... They are all made of aluminum. Not sure about the market price though that's the price hong lee quoted.

Care to advise whether you are doing the top and bottom cabinets and how many ft are your wet and dry kitchens. Are you doing the glass doors and solid top? How much did they quote your walk-in wardrobe and the size?

Thanks.

yes, headache. but how much money did you save? a penny saved is a penny earned.

I think roughly around RM 20k only. Workmanship of the carpenter under the freelancer was not bad lah, but the wet works not so gd..... Overall, I felt the freelancer did not really earn his money for the prices he charged, which was only slightly lower than quoted prices of ID firms.

Not really cheaper by a lot. Maybe 5-10% compared to the ID firms. I think the hong lee prices being quoted are quite ok. Hong Lee is quite systematic in installing the aluminium grilles, and generally more experienced.

Ic. I am quite happy with hong lee indeed. Their products look really nice. Especially the special grey color series look very modern and nice. Their price looks ex but I believe one gets what he paid for. My concern is more on the quality and workmanship.

From my limited experience in installing Hong Lee's aluminium grilles, I think Hong Lee is ok. But to use Hong Lee for the entire house renovation (including carpentry, laminated sliding glass doors, balcony, decking etc) would really be quite ex.

Hong lee they only have aluminum products so the things they can do are not all. For mine, I am planning to let the do the dry and wet kitchen plus master bedroom wardrobe cabinets and sliding door only. Because they do not do wiring, plumber work at all. My plan is to let dewani to do the rest of key places such as living room tv wall portion and courtyard, lastly the wiring, plumber work, down lights and plaster ceiling. Hopefully can settle all these with max rm60 to 70k budget.

May I know how much roughly the grille u installed from hong lee?

Rm 15k for the whole house, including a glass shower screen. If you intend to get Hong lee to do so many things, maybe you should consider getting a main contractor to do the wet works instead of Dewani.

My entire renovation cost (exclude furnishing) was around RM 130K, including electrical wiring, grilles, wet/dry & island kitchen, plumbing, master bedroom bedhead & wardrobes, tv console, painting, balcony glass roof, decking, glass railing, auto-gate & alarm and some wet works at wet kitchen.......

Actually I also understand it is cheaper to engage outside contractor to do the wet works, but seriously a bit worry to engage them as I do not their workmanship and quality. That's why I am thinking to engage the ID company to do the rest. Frankly speaking, I am also not sure what are required things to do. If engage ID company I can account the company for everything they do instead of dealing with so many contractors.

I had actually received the quotation from morse design, if it is to do all the things I want include everything, it is abt rm7xk to rm80k

I dun really know abt Morse Design. Maybe you can check with Creative Touch too (since it's recommended by Berinda's lawyer) on their cost. Hong Lee's stuff does look classy though. A few neighbours commented that my grilles look 'different'. Haha.

I called up creative touch earlier, only an admin lady answered the call. She said all the designers are not working on sat. She took down my no and said she will pass it to their designers to contact me next week. She asked me where is my house and the type of house is it semi-d. Seems to me they are looking into high end business?

Yup hong lee's stuff is quite ok. I really like their stuff. Becos my kitchen is not too big, so price wise it is still within my budget.

Hi there, Honglee is my contractor for kitchen, windows & doors and magnetic insect screen. Although they are not 100% perfect and they are more expensive than others, but the focus on quality and quick defect rectification is there. There are also professional in their handling of their customers and project. If money is not an issue, then Honglee would be a good choice.

My kitchen cost RM85k; we went with black mirror and black granite to complete the look. Almost 40ft of counter top, island and wall cabinets.

It's a big kitchen; one of the expensive item is a motorized tall drawer that cost me RM7.5k. If you go to Honglee's showroom in BMS mall, you can try it out. One knock and the drawer opens; what to do... My wife likes it.

All drawers and cabinets doors comes with soft close function.
