Sar21 is an awkward design. Don't really see what advantage an integrated LAD brings . They should adopted picatinny rails instead.

Now the handful of countries that are using bullpup are switching back to Standard rifles. Malaysia , France and now China.

To talk about LAD, heard it cost 900+ to buy a new piece but SAF prefer to send it to ST for recon at 700+ a piece.

There are many issues with the SAR-21. I can name just a few here. I have put a few SAR-21 rounds downrange, and this weapon is a piece of shit. The main issue is:

1) Poor user ergonomics. The weapon is poorly balanced. And the front is much lighter. If you hold an M-16, CAR-15 or M4 at the pistol grip, the weapon is almost level, 50 50 balance.

2) The trigger pull on the SAR-21 is the shits, as with other bullpups I have shot. The Steyr AUG is the same way. A loosy goosy trigger pull, and you don't know exactly when the round will discharge. Its takes some getting use to. The M-16 and AR-15, all Eugene Stoner derivatives have a great and smooth trigger pull.

3) The LAD u mention is a double aged sword. Its gives your position away, and can only be used within I think around 200m. Beyond, you cannot detect the red dot. Not even with the build in scope. But when you turn it on, the enemy can also see the laser from your gun and know where your position is. In addition to this, it uses a battery that may not be available in the field when it runs out of power.

4) There are no backup iron sights on this thing. U have a rudimentary one good for up to about 50m, but if the scope is damage and u cannot use it, good luck to you.

5) The optics are only 1.5X, which is shit useless. Its only marginally better then your human eyeball. 400 -500m is tops for this sight, which is the 1980s standard using iron sights. The cheap bastards could not put in a better sight. The US Army and MArine Corps put a 4X Trijicon ACOG scope on their M16 and M4. The Canadian Army which is perpetually poor, puts a 3.4X scope on their version of the M16, the C7. With a 3.4X, you can have high probablity first round hit at 600m.

I have fired the SAR21 once during reservist, at the indoor range complex located inside Pasir Labia Camp. I spotted a few ah lians and minahs working there as civilian staff.

Access gantries on the ground floor similar to MRT stations or some office buildings. There's a viewing gallery directly behind the firing range, which also serves as a waiting room for the next detail of shooters.

When you shoot the SAR-21, you feel its heavy in your hands. When you shoot the CAR-15 or M4, it feels light in your hands. The weight for both is about the same. But this is where you tell a poor design from a good one.

Yeah, that is what I am saying. the most experienced army in the world will use the best weapons available in the world and not restrict itself to only home made designed products. But a wayang army like the SAF will.

It looks like the PAP govt has the wrong priorities.
Financial assistance, free medical care and prescription drugs for the senior citizens (excluding those who were not born in SG or have resided in SG for less than 50 years) is more important than spending all that money for R&D and manufacturing the SAR and another assault rifle.

Bingo, you have hit it on the nail. All the major SAF weapon systems purchased have never been tendered. Don't get me started on that. SAR-21 was not tendered, there should have been a tender to replace the M-16S1. Same for Bionix, should have had a tender to replace the M113. Same for Terrex, Hunter, Leopard 2 tanks, etc.

The reason for no tender is so the pricing can be kept secret. If there was tender for this SAR-21 replacement, many companies will bid from around the world. The pricing for each individual weapon, and for a package including support, spares, training, etc. will all be made known publicly. ST will never win it. They are just not competitive enough. If they match or undercut the competition in the bid, they will lose serious money, and then have to answer to Aunty Ho in Stomachsick, the major shareholder. This way everything is secret, ST make money, Aunty Ho happy. The only 2 unhappy person is the SAF, and the taxpayer. One of them is totally ignorant about it. Wayang Party should have questioned this. If they ask this question, bargain hen will call them unpatriotic and say the price is a state secret like Ho Jinx salary.

P.S. This the same reason why the SAR-21 and incoming BR18 are never sold commercially. They would have had to price it to make money, hence revealing the true cost they charge to the SAF. Their breakeven per rifle could be $7500-$10000. The SAF can buy an Colt Industries M4 for $3000.
