Had the chance to put myself in the shoes of our educators and step up to the front of a ‘classroom’ (a la our Annual School Assembly) at our Ministry of Education, Singapore Schools Workplan Seminar today.
Used a few interactive tools (which I learnt about from our educators
1f60a.png
), and we had over 1,500 school leaders and educators share their thoughts, gain appreciation of diverse perspectives.
We discussed ways to:
➡️
Prepare our students to connect, collaborate and create so that they can frame and answer tomorrow’s questions.
➡️
Enhance educators’ capabilities and support their growth
➡️
Inspire schools to have the agency and conviction to innovate and prioritise.
Was pleased to launch the Marketplace of Ideas, a platform which allows educators to share teaching resources across schools, and draw inspiration from good practices.
May we continue to learn from one another, and grow even stronger as an education fraternity.

Congratulations to the 23 recipients of the Singapore Teaching and Academic Research Scheme (START) award!
For Singapore to thrive, it is important that we have exceptional talent to produce exceptional ideas. To achieve this, we must have a robust system that recognises and supports a diverse range of scholarly pursuits.
Ministry of Education, Singapore and the Autonomous Universities (AUs) will continue doing our best to provide our academic talent the opportunities to grow and excel, so that they will be well placed to contribute to Singapore and beyond.

Keechiu visited Blangah Rise Primary School.

From flower artist to accountant, a range of job experiences were on offer at Blangah Rise Primary School yesterday morning for their upper primary students. And yes, there were real professionals in attendance!
Dr Chai Siang Chew, a doctor, is an alumnus who graduated in 1991. Flower artist Ms Shi Fang Fang is a parent who has two daughters in the school. She is also part of the school's Parent Support Group. Accountants Ms Punitha A and Ms Gokki A come from a family of 4 daughters - all BRPS alumni who are working in the same company now. Students also got to meet a board game designer, a researcher, and some of their very own teachers who were architects, engineers, and HR professionals before their mid-career switch to teaching.
Really heartened to see the strong partnerships that the school has built with their parents and alumni. These professionals took time out on a weekday morning to give students the opportunity to explore different careers, piquing their interest on what they can possibly pursue in future. It truly takes a village.
Ms Punitha and Ms Gokki shared that they want to give back to the school that moulded them. "We share the same 'DNA' as the students. So some of our experiences are relatable to them. We want to support our juniors by sharing our life experiences, ups and downs, to encourage and inspire them."
P6 student Chiaki rated today's Careers Day "a solid 9.9/10". "Minus 0.1 because I wish it is less crowded and I have more time at each booth!"
A pretty good score, I think

Singapore’s competitiveness is not defined by our size or resource base, but how quickly we can evolve to meet market demands.
To evolve quickly, we need our enterprises, employees and training ecosystem to work together in the following ways:
1️⃣
Enterprise: Foster a culture of collaboration and look beyond profit to focus on employee growth as a measure of success.
2️⃣
Employee: Move from full-time degrees and diplomas to just-in-time micro-credentials to keep pace with changing industry needs.
3️⃣
Ecosystem: Institutes of higher learning should partner industry to
co-develop industry-relevant courses and have academia learn from best enterprise practices.
Congratulations to all the award recipients at the Institute for Adult Learning Singapore’s Learning Enterprise Alliance (LEA) Award Ceremony, for their achievements in workplace learning.
And may the MOUs between IAL and 6 new enterprise partners support further enterprise transformation.

Best wishes to Team Singapore for the #WorldSkills2022 Competition Special Edition!
Happy to be at the send-off ceremony at Republic Polytechnic to meet our highly-skilled students, before they compete in various skills competitions over the next 3 months.
The team of 29 youths from the Institute of Technical Education, the polytechnics, Nanyang Technological University and Singapore Management University will be pitting their skills against the world’s best in skills areas such as Electronics, Additive Manufacturing, and even 3D Digital Game Art!
This year’s competition is also a special one as it takes place across the globe, in countries including Austria, Germany, Korea and Switzerland.
The pursuit of skills mastery is a lifelong one. I am deeply inspired by the passion of our competitors, who have honed their skills and are being recognised on the international stage.
Go Team Singapore!
