Jogging loop at rooftop garden, urban farming spaces and a pedestrian mall with wellness-themed amenities. Senior-friendly design and more community programmes. Our residents in Queenstown can look forward to these and more.
Developed in the 1950s as Singapore’s first satellite town, Queenstown has one of the oldest populations. Thus it has been identified as a health district in a pilot programme led by Housing & Development Board, National University Health System - NUHS and National University of Singapore with various partners to better support our residents to lead healthier and more productive lives.
This will be done through integrated planning and design of the estate. Existing neighbourhoods will also be enhanced through the Neighbourhood Renewal Programme. Going forward, residents will also enjoy better access to preventive health services and screenings, which will be brought closer to them in the community.
Looking forward to these really exciting developments!

As a country, society and economy, Singapore is deeply and widely connected to our region and the world — I am proud that this is reflected in the extensive alumni networks of our universities.
H.E. Muhammad Tito Karnavian, Indonesian Minister for Home Affairs, received the Nanyang Technological University, Singapore Nanyang Distinguished Alumni Award this evening - the highest award category at the ceremony, for his outstanding contributions to regional counter-terrorism efforts. He graduated with a PhD in Strategic Studies from the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies in 2013.
A graduate from Nanyang Business School in 1997, Nicole Tan is SHISEIDO’s first regional female chief executive in its 149-year history and hopes to use her position to help raise awareness for greater gender equality and partnership both in the workplace and at home.
Chow Chung Ping, a graduate from NTU School of Biological Sciences in 2010, joined Genedata AG in Switzerland, and is now Managing Director of the company in Singapore. He pays it forward by giving career talks and conducting industry sharing sessions to undergraduate and postgraduate students of NTU College of Science and the School of Biological Sciences. Chung Ping also helped to shape the course content of the Specialist Diploma in Biomedical Informatics and Analytics which is conducted jointly by 4 of our polytechnics for adult learners.
Was glad to celebrate the accomplishments of Nicole and Chung Ping, and the rest of the outstanding NTU Alumni who were recognised with the 2020 and 2021 Nanyang Alumni Awards.
Congratulations once again to all the award recipients and we look forward to your continued contributions and accomplishments in the years to come!

Growing up, not all of us had the privilege of buying all the new textbooks that we needed – I was one of these children. It is through projects such as Share-A-Textbook by FairPrice and other community partners that we were able to continue our education and benefit from the kindness of others.
Share-A-Textbook is a simple initiative that embodies our societal values. Passing our textbooks on to others builds solidarity and a sense of responsibility. It is a commitment to do our best to take care of others, and to define success beyond what we achieve for ourselves.
The newly launched FIT (Food, Innovation and Technology) Hackathon embodies the same spirit as the Share-A-Textbook initiative — doing our part to enable others to do better. The FIT Hackathon not only provides a platform for our youths to explore new ideas, concepts and business models, but also the opportunity to contribute to a growing ecosystem of innovation and build their knowledge of the sustainable industry and future green jobs.
Congratulations Seah Kian Peng and FairPrice on the successful launch, and a big thank you to volunteers, our schools, and corporate partners who have joined these meaningful intiatives! All of us are in this together because we share the same mission — to leave behind a better Singapore for the next generation.

Check out the bountiful harvest from Pri 3 students Priyanka, Zixuan and their schoolmates!
As part of Wellington Primary School’s Applied Learning Programme (ALP) and science lessons, they have been exploring agri-tech from Panasonic Singapore and cultivating pesticide-free vegetables through sustainable farming methods. Using cloud-based environmental control, the vegetable incubator is able to optimise nutrient solutions for the vegetables.
Our ALP is designed to spark curiosity and help students to relate academic knowledge and skills to solving real-life problems. Enjoyed seeing the faces of our students light up when they talked about observing the vegetable growth cycles, and bringing home the vegetables that they have grown themselves.
May this be the start of a lifelong interest in innovative sustainable solutions, and perhaps some of them will even uncover new approaches to bolster Singapore’s food security in the future

Keechiu is concerned about climate change.

Climate change is an existential threat that has far-reaching consequences for all countries.
The 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference will kick off this Sunday in Glasgow, with Parties working towards keeping global warming to below 2 degree celsius above pre-industrial levels.
Singapore has been doing our part to strengthen our commitment under the UN 2030 Sustainability Development Agenda and Paris Agreement. This includes our target to halve our 2030 peak greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, and achieve net zero emissions as soon as viable in the second half of the century.
The Singapore Green Plan 2030 is our whole-of-nation movement to advance the national agenda on sustainable development, and charts our green targets over the next 10 years.
www.greenplan.gov.sg
Ministry of Education, Singapore will aim for at least 20% of schools to be carbon neutral by 2030, and work towards two-thirds reduction of net carbon emission from the school sector by 2030. These efforts will be supported by the Eco Stewardship programme in our schools, which inculcates informed, responsible and sustainability-conscious mindsets and habits among our youth.
All of us have what it takes to #GameChangeClimateChange by consciously making sustainable choices – in our schools, homes, workplaces and community spaces. Let us each do our part
