We live in extraordinary times due to #COVID19, which has compounded the challenges faced by our youth and teachers.
Sun Xueling and I joined Iris, a social worker, Chin Guan, a Ministry of Education, Singapore teacher, Christine, a mother of three, and local actress JJ Neo 梁嘉靖 to talk about the important issue of mental-wellness.
It takes a whole-of-society effort to look out for one another and engender cultural shifts, including the management of expectations to reduce pressure placed on students and teachers.
Do catch our discussion on ‘A Conversation with Minister’ tomorrow on Channel 8 新闻深呼吸 8world Stories at 9pm!
希望大家明晚9点收看 Mediacorp Channel 8 的《空中访民情》与我们一起探讨如何缓解学生和教师们所面对的压力,并通过社区的力量在疫情间相互扶持,维护我们大家的身心健康。

Planted this Batoko Plum (flacourtia inermis) tree with our young resident Asma. She was very proud to “own” this tree and brought her little unicorn to share her joy!
Joined her family and several residents, My Buona Vista grassroots leaders and volunteers, as well as colleagues from Tanjong Pagar Town Council, People's Association and NParks, at our annual Tree Planting Day.
It is more than just a tradition to plant trees every year. It is more importantly a commitment from us to our children - that each generation will leave behind for future ones a greener, cleaner and even more sustainable Singapore.

Youths and young professionals are increasingly prioritising purpose in their careers.

My Buona Vista is organising a webinar on the topic of “Building a Purposeful Career”. Panellists from diverse backgrounds with varied careers will come together to share their personal experiences of how they found purpose and meaning, while building rewarding careers in different fields: award-winning filmmaker Kelvin Sng, social entrepreneur Julian Koo and engineer-turned-policymaker Jason Bay. The session will be moderated by data and policy analyst Trisha Suresh.

Register at https://iguru.bv.sg to join the webinar via Zoom this Friday, 12 Nov at 8pm.

This thread still around after so long? Maybe MOE will change content to say that cotton comes from sheep to placate this fool. The person who does that in MOE will be triple promoted.

Keechiu announces that school activities will be progressively resumed.

In my interaction with our students, many have asked me: when can we resume school activities?
Indeed, a holistic school experience goes beyond the classrooms. When we look back at our schooling years, the most treasured memories are those with our friends. Notwithstanding the disruptions from #COVID19, our students need supportive social networks that they can lean on – and these can only be formed through time spent with their peers.
To support the long-term well-being of our students, Ministry of Education, Singapore will progressively resume more school activities, such as school assemblies, cohort activities, CCAs and team sports activities, for our students above 12 years of age.
More details can be found here: https://www.moe.gov.sg/.../20211108-resuming-more-school...
Adjusting to the challenges of the pandemic requires a careful balance between promoting the long-term well-being of our students and mitigating the current risks. In making the decision to resume more activities, we considered the fact that our student population above the age of 12 in schools and IHLs have high vaccination rates. Additional precautionary measures will also be in place, such as subjecting sports players for the pilot to a supervised self-administered antigen rapid test (ART) prior to participation.
As we learn to live with endemic COVID-19, parents can support the efforts of schools by encouraging your children to continue practising good personal hygiene, adhere to SMMs and exercise social responsibility. Let us come together as a community to keep our students safe.

To ensure that Singapore remains a place with opportunities for all, we are committed to enabling children of all backgrounds to reach their fullest potential.
Together with PM Lee Hsien Loong, my colleagues Masagos Zulkifli, Dr Maliki Osman, Assoc Prof Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim, Sun Xueling and I had a fruitful session today with community partners and educators who have greatly contributed to supporting less privileged students and their families. Education is a key social enabler, and as PM had shared, the Government will be stepping up efforts in this area to further uplift children in need.
As part of our holistic support for these children, Ministry of Education, Singapore will enhance the initiatives under UPLIFT, an inter-agency taskforce led by MOE which seeks to strengthen support for students from disadvantaged families:
There have been good results from the UPLIFT Community Pilot in Boon Lay, Woodlands, Kreta Ayer and Bukit Merah. We will gradually roll out a nationwide UPLIFT Community Network in the coming years.
The UPLIFT Enhanced School Resourcing programme which has been piloted in 23 schools since 2019, will be expanded to an additional 24 primary and secondary schools in 2022. We plan to extend this to about 100 schools in the next few years. The enhanced resourcing will see the deployment of more teachers to these schools, so that more students in need can receive the necessary support.
The success of UPLIFT relies on a whole-of-society effort – we will continue to work with community partners so that no child is left behind.

Have you planned any activities for the upcoming year-end school holidays?
Recently, I had fun discovering the Do-It-Yourself (DIY) activities in the Science Centre Singapore UNTAME Thrive Kit – my favourite is the solar light gadget

.
The UNTAME Thrive Kit is one of many interesting STEM-based learning activities lined up by Science Centre Singapore for their UNTAME: REBOOTING OUR WORLD Festival. This year’s focus is on environmental sustainability. Children of all ages can learn through fun and explore exciting ways to contribute to a more sustainable future.
I hope the activities will encourage them to be curious, creative and spark change through STEM education. Check out the UNTAME festival from now till 5 Dec 2021!
