Our Tanjong Pagar textile recycling drive kicks off tomorrow. As part of this initiative, 10 additional textile bins will be placed at various locations around Tanjong Pagar town from 15 January to 4 February.
As we spring clean for the upcoming Lunar New Year, let’s also do our part for a more sustainable environment!

Today, PSD Singapore, Ministry of Health, Singapore and Singapore Airlines signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to formalise our commitment to jointly collaborate on manpower planning and deployment for future national-level contingencies. This builds on our successful collaboration during the COVID-19 pandemic.
MOH, PSD and the SIA Group will work together to train and refresh aviation crew in essential support care roles, and to stress test crisis response protocols. This allows the Public Service to build our muscle memory in crisis management and strengthen our forward planning capabilities in preparation for future crises. This will enable us to better serve Singaporeans and Singapore.

Keechiu hopes students are having fun. :giggle::devilish::roflmao:

This caught my eye at my visit to Nan Hua Primary School some time back.
Thought it was some sort of avant garde art exhibition by the students at first.
This is an “Inconvenience Store”, used to teach students about the environmental footprint of snacks and the cost of modern convenience on the environment. Students project the cost of ingredients, conditions in which they were produced, packaging materials – and learn how to assess the true cost of everyday items. So from young, they learn how to evaluate their purchase decisions, even in food choices, beyond traditional criteria like price, and thus become critical thinkers and consumers.
As for the Mona Lisas in the background, they are different representations by Da Vinci and Botero. The artefacts are used during art lessons, where students explore the definitions of Art, and examine artists who stretch society’s notions of what art means.
Happy to see our students learn in such novel ways. Hope they're having fun at the same time too!

Keechiu wants to connect. :cautious::sneaky::tongue:

Chan Chun Sing

The ability to connect, or what we know in Chinese as 结缘, must be part of the Singapore DNA.
Nurturing the ability to do so takes courage and nuance. To deeply understand people, one must often take the path less travelled, have the confidence to navigate different cultures, and be open to new perspectives. When we are able to bring together people from different cultures, languages, persuasions, and perspectives as Singaporeans, we need not worry about being able to do well in a troubled, uncertain world.
That is where initiatives such as the Singapore Valley Awards play an important role. They create opportunities for our youth to gain international exposure, working with our friends around the world to cultivate local talents into global champions.
At the 2024 Singapore Valley Awards Ceremony today, I congratulated six awardees, who have demonstrated exceptional business acumen and ability to thrive in a demanding international landscape. Dongyue, Carlo, Sricharan, Louicia, Dylon and James will be embarking on a three-month internship in China.
My best wishes to them as they prepare for exciting learning journeys abroad. Fly the Singapore flag high wherever you are and share with us new ideas when you come back!

Keechiu wants to deliver content just-in-time at speed. :o-o::confused::laugh:

Chan Chun Sing

2 d ·
Someone once told me that designing a 20-minute lesson is easier than producing a Tiktok video, or a TeachTok video, for 120 seconds. Being able to crunch down the same content under 120 seconds for on-the-go consumption is something else.
Spoke about the challenges the adult learning sector is facing today at the Adult Learning Xchange 2024. We have to deliver content just-in-time at speed - to a very diverse, very busy group of learners.
The Government, our IHLs and frontier industries share a common goal of topping up the skills of our workers. The big question is how.
We will need much faster sensing mechanisms to match skills demand with skills supply. There’re also rich opportunities in adaptive learning technology, where we can personalise our learning experiences. Lastly, and perhaps this is the holy grail, the adult training sector must come together, pool ideas, and produce bite-sized content, accessible to people anytime, anywhere, and on any subject.
We launched Singapore's first Adult Learning Collaboratory (ALC), by Institute for Adult Learning Singapore (IAL). The ALC will support mature workers, facilitating enterprise transformation and exploring future-oriented pedagogies. It will bring together local and international engagements in adult learning, to spark the best ideas.
IAL is leading the way in building a culture of continuous growth. This is the spirit of the SkillsFuture movement - researchers, training providers, industry players, workers coming together to ensure that growth continues for all, for life.

Keechiu met students from medical schools across the region.

Chan Chun Sing

In today’s interconnected world where pandemics can spread rapidly and suddenly, in a world with huge amounts of accessible data; and in a world with rapidly tech advances; our medical education and healthcare must evolve in tandem to meet shifting needs and demands.
Met students from medical schools across the region today at the East Asian Medical Students’ Conference 2024. These students represent the future of our healthcare - a future where trust has to be built between patient and medical practitioner, from primary care to acute care. This is especially in this new digital age, where misinformation and fake news can mislead us.
Our medical education will complement this. We will teach students to search, and equip them with content beyond curative medicine. We will encourage them to adopt a wider perspective on different healthcare issues.
But it doesn’t end here.
Graduation from medical school is just the beginning. Our students will need to constantly refresh one’s knowledge and skills to do better, with conferences like EAMSC serving as networking platforms to facilitate the exchange of good practices.
Many things may change and evolve but one constant must remain. Our students, and all medical professionals, need to be guided by strong moral and ethical standards in the practice of medicine, even in the pursuit of new breakthroughs.
Only then they will be able to ensure the best care for all of us.

Last week, Minister for Trade and Industry Chan Chun Sing conducted a closed-door meeting with a group of business leaders organised by the Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCCI). In the meeting, he addressed a number of issues including people’s behaviour of panic buying and hoarding essential items in Singapore. He noted that this behaviour “has long term implications” on the country’s international standing.
At least CCS was not as foolish as KPK to try to pull off this childish stunt

Keechiu spoke with embassy delegates, corporate representatives and academics.

Each year brings its own set of difficulties. In 2023, we saw the escalation of violent conflicts, heightened geopolitical tensions, and weakening economic conditions. There are various deeper forces which could potentially shape the global order for years to come.
But I hope that we will count the years not just by challenges - but also opportunities.
Spoke with embassy delegates, corporate representatives and academics at the Singapore Institute of International Affairs' Annual Year Opener today.
Even in a time of global stress, Singapore can continue to have a strong value proposition to the world. But we must remain open and inclusive - an oasis of stability with a predictable business environment for the world to come together to collaborate. In a world increasingly seen as a zero-sum game, we must also work with other like-minded states and partners to advance shared and long-term goals.
What worked in the past may not work quite the same way in the future. So we must always be on the lookout for new ideas, new perspectives, new opportunities that will entrench our relevance to the world.
It is through the crucible of crisis and challenges that the fortitude of Singaporeans is birthed. Each generation had their fair share of challenges, and each generation innovated and emerged stronger. If we work together, we will chart our own destinies.
As they say, the only easy day was yesterday. The question is, what will we do about it?

Jayden, Jenevieve, Hui Yee and Alisha wrapped up the last day of their internship at MOE's International Cooperation Branch (ICB) today. They've been getting exposure to work involving our strategic education relations with our overseas friends, and getting a better understanding of the education partnerships we have around the world.
A bunch of good kids. Wishing them all the best as they return to National JC to start their new school term.

Kindness comes in many forms — how you speak, the words you use and the things you do.
I believe kindness is reflected in the daily choices that we make, and how those choices can make a greater impact for everyone else around us. It is a powerful force that creates a ripple of positivity and makes a difference in someone else’s life.
This year marks the 33rd Annual School Kindness Awards. Let us always choose kindness, warmth and compassion.

Saddened to hear of the passing of Mr Wee Cho Yaw today.
Mr Wee made significant contributions to the education sector in Singapore, as chairman of the joint School Management Committee for Chung Cheng High School (Main), Chung Cheng High School (Yishun) and Nanyang Junior College, and as a member of the Mee Toh Foundation. He also served on the council of National University of Singapore and later, as the pro-chancellor of Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.
Mr Wee was known both for his business acumen and for giving back to society. Over the years, he contributed to our schools and various education initiatives, including the Nanyang Junior College Zhong Zheng Ren Scholarship, the Wee Cho Yaw Future Leaders Award scholarship programme. UOB and the Wee family also made donations to the Lee Kuan Yew Centennial Fund, which aims to develop young leaders and support underprivileged students in Singapore.
He uplifted many students from all walks of life.
My deepest condolences to Mr Wee’s family and loved ones.

"Faster, Higher, Stronger - Together."
This is the Olympic motto, which encapsulates not only the individual pursuit of excellence, but also the collaborative spirit that underscores competition.
Starting from the #NationalSchoolGames2024, some team sports will adopt the Pool and League format where teams of comparable abilities will play in the same pool. Student-athletes like Rafael from Oasis Primary School's Table Tennis team and Sharifah from Tampines Secondary School's Football team will have opportunities to play a minimum of six rounds throughout the NSG, compared to the traditional format where many teams may be eliminated after the first round.
I hope that every student will thrive in their chosen sport, and look beyond wins to celebrate effort and strength of character
