Rafael Benitez: Money Makes Manchester United Dominant, Not Alex Ferguson
The Reds boss has reiterated that United are England's big spenders, despite Fergie's claim to the contrary...

Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez has reacted to Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson's comments that he has spent more than United by saying the Red Devils boss has been the big spender of the Premier League.

Ferguson said on Friday that the Spaniard had spent £24 million more than him on this team since Benitez took over at Anfield five years ago.

The Spaniard has reacted though, stating that the Red Devils have been the big spenders over the last 15 years or so.

Speaking to The Sunday Mirror, Benitez said, "If he says that we have spent more than United then I say look at the facts.

"Which club has consistently broken the transfer record over the last 15 years? It is United."

Benitez also said that no matter who was in charge at old Trafford, beating them will always be a tough ask as they are the major economic force of the league.

"For me, it does not matter whether Alex Ferguson is the manager of Manchester United or not," the Spaniard continued.

"It will always be difficult to beat United simply because they are the club with the big money.

"Would it be easier for me without Ferguson? I don't think anything will change in my job whether he is at United or not.

"It is hard to beat United now - and it will be hard to beat them without Alex Ferguson."

Despite rumours of Benitez having a transfer kitty of around £40 million earlier in the week, the Spaniard admitted that transfer targets had been identified but a budget for the summer has not yet been set.

"We haven't agreed a transfer budget yet," he added.

"I have spoken to the owners and commercial director, but nothing has been agreed and there is no deadline.

"But clearly it is always important to have more money to spend on players. It is the same for every manager - we always want more.

"It may depend on how well we do in the Premier League and Champions League, but I am already looking towards targets. We cannot do any business now but, for me, it is important to be ready for when we can go into the market.

"For some players it is important to know what the future of the manager will be. I hope now I have signed for five more years it will help to bring players to the club."

Benitez assured his long-term future at the club last week by signing a new contract at Anfield, in a deal that will keep him there until 2014.

Interesting facts:

If Man U and Arse qualify for CL semi, they would have met 4 times before season is over.
If Chelsea and Man U qualify for the FA Cup Final and both teams make it all the way to CL final, it will be 4 again.
The only other team United will play for the 4th time is another London club-Tottenham Hotspurs (United have won all three games so far).

Who is to say they won't end up with 4 titles come end of May.

Tomorrow night game against Villa. I'm sure Man Utd will revert back to winning ways again, and they will come back with a big bang.
I'm just keen to see United get back to winning ways again.
This is a good time to playing Villa basically, as they suffered a dip in form recently, being whacked 5-0 by Loserpools. So we must do one better.
Man United 6 Villa 0.
Hopefully Fulham can take something out of the Loserpoo game tonight!
And Chelski crash and burn at St James!:p

All hail the new hero from the Theatre of Dreams!!

Federico "Kiko" Macheda (born 22 August 1991) is an Italian footballer who plays as a striker for Manchester United. He joined Manchester United from Lazio in September 2007.

Career
Born in Rome, Macheda began his football career with local side Lazio. However, due to Italian football regulations preventing under-18s from signing professional contracts, he was not permanently tied to the club, and shortly after his 16th birthday, he was signed by Manchester United of England, where regulations permit the signing of players aged 16 and up. Following his family's relocation to England, he officially joined the club as a trainee on 16 September 2007, and began a three-year scholarship in the club's Academy.

He went straight into the Manchester United Under-18 side, and scored the only goal of the game on his debut, a 1–0 away win over Barnsley on 15 September 2007. In his first season with the club, he finished as the Under-18s' top scorer with a total of 12 goals in 21 appearances for the under-18s, and even made his debut for the reserves on 26 February 2008, when he came on as a 68th-minute substitute for Gerard Piqué in a 2–0 away defeat to Liverpool. On 12 May 2008, Macheda earned a Manchester Senior Cup winners' medal when he was named as an unused substitute for the 2–0 win over Bolton Wanderers in the final.

Macheda signed his first professional contract with Manchester United on his 17th birthday in August 2008. In the 2008–09 season, he continued in the under-18 side, while also making a few appearances for the reserves. Towards the end of the season, Macheda enjoyed an extended run in the reserve team, scoring eight goals in eight games, including a hat-trick against Newcastle United on 30 March 2009, and he was rewarded by being selected for the first team for the match against Aston Villa on 5 April 2009. With United 2–1 down and needing a goal to keep their title campaign alive, manager Alex Ferguson threw Macheda on in place of Nani just after the hour mark. After Cristiano Ronaldo equalised for United in the 80th minute, Macheda won the match with a curling effort from just inside the area in the third minute of injury time.

Wayne Piew,

It really is a funny old game dude! Hats off to Fergie and his Reds Devils, especially Cristiano and that young lad Macheda. Who would have thought the late show could get any later after Liverpool's late show at the cottage 24 hours earlier, but United did just that with a late late show and a beauty of a goal from an unknown youngster no less. Football is truly a wonderful beautiful game, even though I say this with a tinge of pain as I type these words, made worse with the chant from old Old Trafford "are you watching merseyside" still ringing in my ears:(

Looks like Usain Bolt's "stop acting like wuss" advice to Cristiano may have just done the trick:biggrin: But trust Fergie to immediately start with more mind games just after the match, baiting Rafa over the coming CL quarters with Chelsea:rolleyes:

Agree. I thot Ferguson would have sorted the defensive problem even before the game started. The Carew vs Neville mismatch was always on the cards and your're right, he has lacks pace.

Evans was too busy covering Evra who had another horrendous game. Just hope they do something before the next match.
Macheda reminds me of David Villa. Young lad with good attitude-full of running and he's so unlike Welbeck who is more easy-going much like that tofu leg Bulgarian Pig.
Take nothing away from them though as they are highly talented individuals with different style.

Yeah rite, Loserpool scored at almost exactly the same moment in injury time on Saturday, it was because of their never say die attitude as claimed by the Bolivian playboy, but when Man Utd did it yesterday with an absolutely sublime finish from a young 17 year old kid, we're just lucky.:(
