George Yeo can break SAF bond while Dr Allan Ooi can't???

yes, you guys probably lost because of the lack of malay electorate support...zainal is a nice experienced chap and generally the PAPs know how to take care of the malay vote
As for James' saga, I believe that it has minimum impact on the ultimate outcome, maybe just a 1% or at most 2% only. It won't change the fact that we would still lose, though with higher votes.

You most probably have the key to our electoral failure. ;)

I think this will stick with opposition parties for years to come if nothing is done to try and win over the Malay voters.

I have asked his classmates from ACS and they can't explain it. I have asked his NS mates prior to he leaving for his studies and they can't explain it.

Bizarre. My own nagging feeling is the years he spent overseas studies is the missing link.

I am sure it will emerge eventually but here is the speculative angle.

Ed Ng is not exactly a heavyweight in political terms. In fact his Political philosophy has never emerged and articulation is not his strength. He is no threat to anyone. Yet these attacks. It must be over issues within the party and what is the common thread or common factor involved in the attacks? The same clones that are attacking one other party in this forum are now attacking Ed Ng. Look at the clones and you will get the answer.

...however i am curious to know why you and some others are viciously attacking Ed Ng?

you need to attract quality malay/muslim candidates like say Prof. Hussin Mutalib to stand a reasonably good chance...easier said then done though

There are other ways to do it but that's another story for another time.

Dear Scroobal

Interestingly enough, Dr Chee just cannot let go of personal issues whenever he engages with the PAP. In his exchanges with G Yeo currently ,He is aasking dear old georgie why he thinks he was justified in breaking the bond :_)). And yes hounding the man for his exact salary when what is publically available is the max possible salary inclusive of all bonuses.

Its not the call to politics but the string of tactical errors and spent opportunities. When he and Kuanalan fronted the parliamentary committee and got caught out, I thought he would have been better prepared and do his homework. Then the Indonesia "where is the money" debacle. I actually thought that the PAP lied to Parliament . It turned out that no money was given.

Its the thought process. Read his books and there is absoultely nothing wrong in it. Yet the actions.

Have to agree with Porfiro. It cannot be just a Malay. Malay factionalism is pretty cut and dry. The Malay that you pick must resonate with the Malays as a whole. You must be aware that DKK is not part of the equation.

I do not think for a progressive step, we could possibly get "Malay professional" to step out for opposition cause.

To resonate with Malay, that's the key. In fact, for whichever race, the candidates must resonate with their own kind. Thus, for me, education level is not the most important criteria.

How do you show that your Malay candidate could resonate with them within that short span of 9 days of campaign? It is near impossible, actually. Any alternative ways to overcome that would be the key to winning Malay votes.

May not be the calling or psychology. "Vasoogate" wouldn't turn any one in psychologically. It's like going mad after a quarrel with wife.

Think the present CSJ came about when returned from US, before that was the one who baffled your friends. Over the years the strategy changed but get the feeling there's a certain agenda he follows that has been mapped out, one leading to another, and is in concert with others not in Singapore. If you can figure out what it is it would fit in. That is why it's not "errors" or "spent" and therefore repeated because the objectives are different - and perhaps achieved, to his perception.

The only explanation I can think of is he has a free hand in what he writes but follows a set of scripts in his actions, that's why the discrepancy in the two.

Have also wondered why "Edmund Ng is bullshit" is one of only 3 sticky threads in this coffeeshop. Important enough to stand toe to toe with a control panel discussion thread and a software download thread.

Need not be professional at all. Get someone who can be trusted to approach someone in the Malay community for understanding the Malay psyche in Singapore Politics. There must be a series of engagement after which they will tell who are the likely candidates.

Do not expect the candidate to be confrontational in the hustings. His mere presence will send a message.

Unfortunately NSP "historical background" does not lend itself easily to this. You know what I mean.
