Thanks for the clarification. Though not directly, he should have cast his eyes over it. The least demanding issues in election is filling the form. Having the guts, logistics and impact on your personal life is much more impactful.

After the 1st time, I would have been ultra anal retentive in this respect but James went on to score a 3rd. Its reflects badly on him and the party.

It also does a great disservice to those in the party and outside who take the trouble to campaign and end up with this outcome. It certainly took attention away from the party and others in the opposition as well.

Yes, many WP campaign helpers and supporters are very disappointed by this outcome. Am I disappointed? No, because in my view, the result of near 45% is within my estimate prior to elections. I wasn't expecting a win, though a plus minus 3% is within the standard errors. This is based on the statistical feel from knocking doors.

Ever since 1970s, no opposition candidates have won during their first electoral participation. 45% for a GRC is not the best result for the first try historically but not so bad either.

As for James' saga, I believe that it has minimum impact on the ultimate outcome, maybe just a 1% or at most 2% only. It won't change the fact that we would still lose, though with higher votes.

I am not too sure. You maybe right but for the wrong reasons. Will explain. In 2006, the opposition started well with Sylvia shredding Ng to pieces over the manifesto. For the first time, agenda was taken away from PAP. Potong Pasir was PAP's second front but it was very much isolated. It was the resident's of PP vs the PAP and GCT. For the rest of Singapore it was WP and that includes some very promising people like Chia, yourself etc.

Until then they had little to go. Then James Gomez made the booboo. If they consigned the attack on James in a more savvy manner, WP actually might have done down worse but they over did it. People remembered old man's habit of total annihilation.

You have nothing to fear. They have outmanovuered themselves comprehensively. My sense is the type and quality of supporters that they engage with. Its quite bizarre. Chee is an enigma.

I have asked his classmates from ACS and they can't explain it. I have asked his NS mates prior to he leaving for his studies and they can't explain it. However the term charismatic keeps popping up even till today for those who have engaged him personally or in a group gathering (without his fan base following behind).

My sense is that Vasoogate damaged him psychologically ( I guess I am as qualified as Dr Chua of SPH) and not just the reputation. Time would have glossed over the reputational damage and the ultra conservatives voters would have been replaced by young voters who would have seen thru PAP fluff.
