Dear Scroobal,

Thank you for your insights again.

I understand what you mean about NSP's "historical background" but to me, history is to be made in our hands, rather to be the burden on our back.

Personally, I feel that the main reason for opposition's failure in making electoral progress for the past 2 decades lies in the Malay votes. 1988 and 1991 were exceptional years whereby the Malay community saw the need to assert their political voice, coupled with the dissatisfaction of the Catholics in 1991 which was related to the so call "Marxist Plot", opposition did put up quite a number of close fights in 1988 and making unexpected progress in 1991.

The PAP was so overwhelmed in 1991 that it began to make changes to their community policies and start to initiate a pro-active construction of community self help groups, particularly targeting the Malay community.

PAP has been quite successful in regaining the Malay ground since 1991. But one recent event indicates that there are some unhappiness in the Malay community over political representation. They were questioning openly in the Malay newspaper over the lack of Malay NMPs being nominated into parliament. This could mean quite a number of things of which I believe that the Malay community is not very satisfied with PAP's Malay MPs' performance in parliament. They are seeking alternative representation of their communal voice in parliament.

I do not expect to make any break through this time round but if I have the chance, I would like to lay the foundation for NSP to win future electoral battles in GRC by sending my Malay candidate into parliament as NCMP for a start. The rest, I shall leave it to the next generation of opposition candidates.

Commend you on the way that you plan to address this. It is indeed something that takes time.

Just one comment about PAP regaining the Malay ground since 1991. The relationship is very different from the era of Yatiman Yusoff where he was the PAP party man or the arrangement with other communities. This time around it more a symbiotic or quid pro quo arrangement. The tea party does not apply to them. The community is asked to forward those that they consider leaders. So in this instance, they are the Malay community reps first then they are PAP party members, token in nature. This does not apply to malay grassroots PAP party members which is business as usual, this only for those that are becoming MPs. Like all factional politics, some leeway is given to PAP stalwarts. An example is the lady doctor whose family is staunch PAP diehards.

In essence, you can ask the Malay community to have their reps participate in various suitable parties to ensure their community receive wider coverage and not just PAP which will be quite palatable to them. I sense that they don't think its a zero sum game. They will of course be aware that the GRC setup will pit one member of the community with another of the same community.

Your point about they seeking alternative voice or platform is very true.

Interesting times.

There is no greater qualification in Singapore politics than having done it once and doing very well at that.

Ignore my barbs, cast aside what has been said, what has transpired in your life since 2006 and get back in the game. I have no hesitation giving you my vote in a heartbeat.

Your focus is securing votes, not wasting your time trading blows with PAP and their minions who have fixed the rules, the referees and whatever else that can be fixed.

I have to sit this one out.Maybe i wont be back. Need to rest.

I have no views .The very reason why I asked you to explain yourself.

I am a poor lawyer fighting a battle which is more often than not on a lonely front. I can only render the help i can. Sometimes such cases which are fully pro bono do clash with paid work.

Like i said before even 300/ hour is whittled down to almost nothing by our high costs and overheads. I am only one individual i do what i can.

There are 3000 other lawyers, if you know any of them, try to get them to take on political cases too.

Dear CTL

Take a guess it does not really matter with regards to beauracracy. As to what I do am doing or plan to do, I would say take another guess again. Apart from selectively and mischieviously highlighting bits u like and ignoring bits you do not.......however well some of us feel that we have done, it does not detract from the need to address certain social economic political issues , much like you I dare say.

GY can break SAF bond to join politics???

It gets me thinking about Dr Allan Ooi desperation to break his SAF bond and MINDEF unfeeling remarks that "SAF officers who take up sponsorship have a responsibility to serve the full period of their bonds as substantial resources and time have been devoted to training them. Otherwise they will leave gaps in key positions in the SAF."

So GY's bond breaking from SAF doesn't leave a gap in the SAF? or GY don't have that responsibility? or GY can, Allan Ooi cannot? (just like CASE can, TBT cannot?)

Allan Ooi can break bond - but he chose the wrong way to do so, and he also did so when he was under MTE, during which no discussions will be made - SAF where got time, its also stated somewhere in his contract. Once his MTE was over (which is after 4 years of service), his rich Daddy can fly him to the Moon and back lah.

He has served 2.5 years before he AWOLed, but he probably didn't realize that just after another 1.5 years, he can START discussions to break bond. No surprise why his superior didn't tell him this fact.... again, where got time?

Interesting, who authored the scripts.

The larger-than-Singapore groups they work with, elementary speaking.

The cause is in the books. The chap and his party's pals knows that part of the plan is to write books to tell people of the situation in Singapore. That's why the materials are as credible or even more than other opposition mantras because this chap is clearly intelligent. But whatever actions that put himself out, bankruptcy jails etc, even if they are seen as mistakes by us or most of the electorate, are to show up the bad of the PAP.

In essence that creates a perfect circular argument (in Locke's words) his supporters can use as standard answer - I am good because I get the worst, and because I got the worst, I have to be good, period. That takes away having to defend anything else on their party's policy etc.

Then something has changed since the AMP episode and when Goh who was then PM had to go down and appease them. Some issue about alternative Malay leadership.

Its seemed to have worked. You are now in the forum engaging people instead of directing fire behind some skirt.

Don't worry, we will hold your hands while you are here by yourself. Just as there are many ways to skin a cat, there are also many ways to draw out a weasel.

Hope you managed to get a cup of coffee and a bite on your way here.

Illicit gay activities:

Penal Code Section 377A states, “Any male person who, in public or private, commits, or abets the commission of, or procures or attempts to procure the commission by any male person of, any act of gross indecency with another male person, shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to 2 years.”

Cheating:

Whoever, by deceiving any person, fraudulently or dishonestly induces the person so deceived to deliver any property to any person, or to consent that any person shall retain any property, or intentionally induces the person so deceived to do or omit to do anything which he or she would not do or omit if he or she were not so deceived, and which act or omission causes or is likely to cause damage or harm to that person in body, mind, reputation or property, is said to "cheat". For example, A cheats if he intentionally deceives Z into a belief that A means to repay any money that Z may lend to him when A does not intend to repay it, and thereby dishonestly induces Z to lend him money. Cheating is punished with imprisonment of up to one year, or a fine, or both.

Father bashing:

Voluntarily causing hurt – A person causes hurt when he or she causes bodily pain, disease or infirmity to any person. Whoever does any act with the intention of causing hurt to any person, or with the knowledge that he is likely to cause hurt to any person, and does cause hurt to any person, voluntarily causes hurt. The penalty for voluntarily causing hurt is imprisonment of up to one year, or a fine of up to S$1,000, or both.

Theft of Temple Funds:

Theft is committed when a person, intending to take dishonestly any movable property out of the possession of any person without that person’s consent, moves that property in order to effect the taking. The penalty for theft is imprisonment of up to three years, or a fine, or both. It is more common, however, for offenders to be charged with committing theft in a building, tent or vessel, which is used as a human dwelling, or for the custody of property. The penalty for this more serious offense is imprisonment of up to seven years, and also a fine.

heard some rumblings about this but did not know the malay acronym...tks for the info...i think the ethnicity of the spouse may also be an issue...heard some rumblings about tarmuggi's wife when he was min i/c of malay affairs...

i must say that there appears to be a perception to some extent at least which seems to suggest that the malay/muslims with indian or arab blood appear to be smarter and more ambitious than their pure malay/muslim blood brethern...

Its quite sensitive but it refers not to a full blooded Malay but someone with Indian blood. Though the Malays are receptive to anyone who is a muslims and are prepared to follow their customs, they are mindful of those who claim to be Malays hoping to ride on the coattails of their race when it comes to quotas and any other benefits.

Though the committee entrusted to vet candidates for GRC race requirements, might be label a candidate a Malay but may not be accepted as such by the community. By the way, the NRIC can say anything but its the community that will know.

I know that the opposition parties have no clue about this.
