Home sweet home!
Took the evening flight back from Hong Kong after a very productive work trip.
Always look forward to this familiar sight as the plane makes its final descent.

Happy 40th anniversary, SGTech!
As the leading trade association for Singapore's tech industry, SGTech has kept pace with the ever-accelerating tech landscape. We are confronted with a wave of disruptive technologies today – quantum computing, AI, robotics, nanotechnology, 3D printing, and others. These technologies will transform economies and societies. And I am encouraged by SGTech’s efforts to partner industry to better understand and ride on these new opportunities.
To fully harness the potential of technology, talent will be key. I was delighted to launch the TechSkills Accelerator (TeSA) for ITEs and Polytechnics (TIP) Alliance this evening. I remember introducing TeSA in my maiden Budget Speech as Finance Minister in 2016, and I am glad that it has since placed and trained more than 12,000 individuals. This latest TIP Alliance is a valuable collaboration between SGTech, Singapore Computer Society, and other stakeholders. It will allow us to better tap on ITE and polytechnic graduates for the many good jobs in the tech sector.
Much more will need to be done. I issued a “birthday challenge” to SGTech – to keep abreast of the skills needed for emerging tech areas, and to bring onboard more business leaders from all sectors so that tech is pervasive across all industries and companies. I am confident that SGTech will step up to the plate, just as it has for the past 40 years.
The vibrancy of our tech sector today owes much to SGTech’s contributions. I look forward to SGTech playing an even bigger role in the years ahead. Congratulations!

Another new initiative launched today was the SGTech Alumni Leaders Network! This is an excellent effort to build up the network of tech leaders here to network, share experiences and mentor the next generation of tech leaders.

Teachers are our sunshine!
Always wonderful to see students showing their appreciation to their teachers, be it through a short note or a dance performance.
To our teachers and educators — thank you for caring for our students, equipping them with life skills, and inspiring a lifelong love of learning!

Lanterns, mooncakes and pomelos — they are all a big part of the Mid-Autumn Festival!
Happy to join Bedok residents of all ages at the Bedok Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations last night. It was our largest held at Bedok CC since COVID-19! Also competed in a pomelo peeling competition (it’s harder than it looks)! Glad to be able to resume our usual yearly tradition as we carried lanterns, chatted and walked under the stars.

It’s the start of the school holidays this week. Wishing all students and teachers a restful break!

Joined young residents in a pomelo peeling contest at the Lucky Heights Mid-Autumn Festival celebration. The trick is to really dig into the pomelo skin but it’s hard on the fingers!

Glad to meet my Saudi Arabian counterpart this morning.
His Excellency Abdullah bin Amer Al Swaha chairs their Research, Development and Innovation Authority.
Singapore and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have deepened our ties in recent years. We share similar ambitions in digitalising our economies and making the most of technology and innovation. H.E. Al Swaha and I exchanged views on the future economy, and how our two countries can learn from each other.
I wish H.E. Al Swaha and his delegation an enjoyable stay in Singapore.

HSK sampled some plant-based products.

Plant-based diets are taking off in Singapore, and in many parts of the world.
Today, I visited Wholesome Savour, a food wellness company. It manufactures ‘clean label’ plant-based food products focused on nutrition and sustainable sourcing.
I got to sample some of their products at their AWE Bistro today, including a plant-based hard-boiled egg that they developed!
It was also heartening that the food products are prepared by inmates at Changi Prison, in partnership with Yellow Ribbon Singapore. The company also provides work opportunities for persons with special needs through SG Enable.
It is important that our companies pursue sustainable practices — in more ways than one — even as they innovate, transform, and grow.

Surprised to hear that none of the food at the AWE Bistro was produced there. The food is manufactured within Changi Prison and then brought here to be plated and served.
