With the talented students and alumni performers who were involved in the musical. I enjoyed it very much. Good job!

Impressed by the thought and effort that went into putting up the musical. This scene depicts the experiences of the school’s alumni back in the olden days of rural Singapore.

Presented plaques to those who had made significant contributions to the school. Teacher Ho Sau Ken and staff Low Chun Hong have been with the school for 40 and 34 years respectively!

Received a piece of calligraphy with the saying “与时并进”, which translates to “moving ahead with the times”. Congratulations once again to Xingnan Primary School — I wish you continued success in the years ahead!

HSK plans for a caring East Coast.

A caring East Coast is what we aspire to build, and a large part of what we do is to ensure that our seniors remain active and engaged.
I joined residents for a weekend square stepping activity known to improve stability, flexibility and balance. Aside from the health benefits, it gathers neighbours from the estate for a hearty workout! I’m glad our seniors are stepping up and out to make new friends and stay healthy. My thanks to our community volunteers and ActiveSG Circle for organising this!

Spoke to Mdm Lim (rightmost), who finds the square stepping activity fun and helpful. It is an exercise which has multiple step patterns and is known to be beneficial in fall prevention.

Zhi Yi is currently a student, but volunteers with Heartware during her free time. Glad that more of our youths like her are contributing to the community by teaching our seniors some digital skills!

HSK met a number of robots.

Heng Swee Keat is with Tan Kiat How.

I met a number of robots on different occasions recently, perhaps a sign of their increasing prevalence in our midst.
Earlier this week, I met Crystal, Delights, R3, and Ella. They are among more than 20 robots operating at Jewel Changi Airport. They undertake different tasks — from security, to cleaning, to hospitality.
What is remarkable is that the robots are not operating alone. They are increasingly working in concert, with other robots and with other IoT devices installed in the building.
We are not there yet, but we will increasingly need to take a more integrated, smarter, and greener approach to operating our buildings.
The visit to Jewel provides a glimpse of what is possible. With an ageing workforce, robots will help to take on more tasks and augment our workers.
The next time you go to a mall, do look out for robots around you!

I’m sure many of you will find “Delights” delightful! As its name suggests, it offers sweets and bottled water to guests at the Canopy Park in Jewel.

Coincidentally, Certis Senior Experience Executive Nur Hazirah (on my left) is my Bedok resident! She first joined as an Experience Ranger in 2019 and now she oversees both the Experience Ranger and Experience Concierge teams to ensure that the day-to-day operations run smoothly.

Meet Ella — a robot that sweeps up dust and dirt as it moves along. This allows cleaning to be done at any time.

These horticulture sensors (left) leverage on IoT to monitor the soil and health status of plants. They ensure that plant maintenance is being carried out.

Rajesh S/O Kantilal Rashiwala started as an Aviation Security Officer. He is now a Security Specialist at the Jewel Smart Operations Centre after going through facilities management operations training to manage multiple pillars of operation in Jewel.

He shared that the Crystal robot is able to detect human activity after opening hours, and provides live video feeds to the Smart Operations Centre.

HSK celebrates Racial Harmony Day.

Heng Swee Keat

11 hrs ·
For many, food is an expression of love. Food is also a way to bond people across places and cultures.
From nonya laksa, to mee rebus, to chicken dum briyani, e-cookbook “Feast from the Heart” was launched at HeartbeatBedok last week to promote cross-cultural appreciation.
The peace and harmony we enjoy today did not come easily. I grew up experiencing race riots. Six decades on, we have learnt to appreciate one another’s culture and cuisine. People of all races live harmoniously in Singapore. But looking at other parts of the world, race differences can be easily exploited.
As we celebrate Racial Harmony Day today, l hope you will take time to reflect on the peace we sometimes take for granted. Do explore recipes in this e-book, and try out the delicacies from different cultures!
