East Coast Plan unveiled

HSK vividly recalls his years in RI.

Vividly recall my years in Raffles Institution in the 1970s. I remember the sights and sounds of the old Grange Road campus well, and how I was able to explore my interests outside the classroom, such as Interact Club and dabbling in electronics.
So it was good to be back at RI for its 199th Founder’s Day. The campus may have since relocated, but the school culture and strong spirit of service remain. In my speech, I encouraged the students to not be pigeonholed by their grades, and develop their own passions and talents. I also expressed my hope that RI can continue to embrace diversity — this is one of our key strengths as a multicultural and multiracial society, and it must start in our schools.
To all our young students, the world is yours to shape. I look forward to you putting your talents to use in making Singapore and the world a better place.
Auspicium Melioris Aevi. Happy Founder’s Day!

HSK was a buikia in school.

Took a trip down memory lane at the Raffles Archive Museum. The school crest is unique and instantly recognisable, featuring a gryphon, a twin-headed eagle and a double medallion.

Spoke to some students as they shared their most memorable experiences in RI. Both Muhammad Zuhri Setiawanggsa (Year 1) and Head Prefect Raoul Abay Gunalan were from St. Hilda’s Primary School, and they’re both Tampines residents!

The slight drizzle didn’t dampen the wonderful energy at the National Day Parade Preview yesterday!
Dropped by to meet our NDP participants and performers. It was heartwarming to see young and not-so-young from all walks of life coming together to be part of Singapore’s big day!
Met representatives from the various marching contingents, including those representing the social and economic groups. Also chatted with some of our local artistes and some of our youngest performers in this year’s Parade. Impressed by everyone’s commitment to put on the best show ever on 9 August!
This year’s NDP will be extra special for everyone after two years of downsized celebrations. Looking forward to it!

Chatting with our local artistes, Rahimah Rahim, 刘玲玲 Liu Ling Ling and Jacintha Abisheganaden. They are raring to go! You can look forward to their segment in Chapter 3 of the NDP Show, on celebrating families, and our "extended" families – our communities – with a display of cherished local arts and culture.

We held our first East Coast Community Day today! It was a day of fun, play, and fund-raising. Joined our donors and residents in go-karting and badminton. Also got to enjoy (and take part in!) many wonderful performances. Our thanks to all our volunteers!
I was also heartened by the generosity of our community — we raised $500,000 to support the students, seniors and the vulnerable in East Coast. Thank you to all who contributed!
East Coast is caring and vibrant because of all of you!
