HSK visited Standard Chartered Singapore.

Had a good visit to Standard Chartered Singapore yesterday.
Glad to see that the bank has been investing in new areas such as sustainable finance and digital connectivity. Also saw interesting projects that have been incubated by the bank’s innovation hub, including in trade finance and supply chain finance. It was also good chatting with some of the staff, who told me that they had benefited from the various workforce transformation programmes.
These are good initiatives that contribute to our broader effort to grow our financial sector. The Monetary Authority of Singapore recently refreshed the Financial Services Industry Transformation Map (ITM 2025), and I look forward to building on our partnerships with Standard Chartered and other financial institutions here, to further develop Singapore as a vibrant international financial centre. This will allow us to play a greater role in connecting global markets, and contributing to the region’s development.

Chatted with some of Standard Chartered Singapore’s staff. Jasper juggled his undergraduate studies and Work Study stint as a Data Analyst at the bank from 2020 to 2022. He now holds a full-time position in the Group Financial Crime Surveillance Operations.

Masako Yamamoto joined as a Technology in Finance Immersion Programme (TFIP) trainee in 2020 and is now an Associate in the Cyber Security Services Team. Glad to know that the bank has a range of programmes to hire and upskill its workforce.

[L-R] Jasper Ku, Specialist, Data Science, Group Financial Crime Surveillance Operations; Masako Yamamoto, Associate, Strategy and Planning, Cyber Security Services Team; Khairunnisa Shahrin, Analyst, Credit Policy, Corporate, Commercial and Investment Banking; and Vina Misra, Associate Director, Transformation Manager.

With Amelia Ng, CEO of Olea, a fully-digitised trade finance origination and distribution platform. She shared an interesting story behind the company’s name! Olea stems from the word ‘olive’. Just like how olive trees are believed to be the oldest trees in the world, trade is also the oldest industry in the world.

Residents living in the Bayshore area may have heard about the upcoming Bayshore development plans. To meet the strong housing demand and enable young families to live closer to their parents, about 10,000 homes, both private and public housing, will be built on this site. HDB has released an Environmental Impact Assessment Report, which will be used to guide the upcoming development. You can view the report and share your feedback here: https://form.gov.sg/635b57e33f504600126ab30d

Our children are the future of Singapore and the world.
But raising a child takes a village. Over the last 70 years, the Singapore Children's Society has played a key role in this collective effort to strengthen families and support our children. Glad I was able to join the SCS Charity Gala Dinner on Tuesday to thank all in person, and celebrate the SCS’ achievements.
Just last year, the SCS supported close to 20,000 children and families in need. None of this would have been possible without the generosity of many individuals and companies, as well as the SCS’ dedicated team of social practitioners and volunteers. SCS Chairman Choon Hui told me that many of their volunteers have been with them for decades!
I look forward to the SCS continuing to bring hope and smiles to our children, for decades to come!

Receiving the 70th anniversary commemorative book from Singapore Children's Society Chairman Koh Choon Hui. SCS has come a long way in its journey of protecting children of all races and religions. Generations of beneficiaries have benefited from your meaningful and tireless efforts. Choon Hui himself is an inspirational example of this dedication – he has served in the SCS since 1975, and has been Chairman since 1978!

Bridges promote understanding, facilitate collaboration, and enable the discovery of new opportunities.
Over the past three decades, the Nanyang Centre for Public Administration at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore has built many bridges between China and Singapore, and strengthened people-to-people exchanges. I was delighted to join them yesterday to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the “Mayors’ Class” (市长班) and the 15th anniversary of the Lien Ying Chow Legacy Fellowship.
In a more fractious world, we need to double our efforts to build bridges and tackle urgent global challenges together. Institutions like the Nanyang Centre can play a role in building new bridges, to facilitate understanding and collaboration. I wish the Nanyang Centre continued success as you progress with the times, scale new heights, and contribute to stronger relations between China, Singapore and the world.

Prof Liu Hong, Director of NPCA taking me through the Nanyang Centre for Public Administration’s milestones. I recall celebrating the 20th anniversary of the “Mayors’ Class” back in 2012 when I was Education Minister. Glad to see that NCPA has grown so much since then!

HSK experienced compassion, kindness and positive energy at the 10th anniversary celebration of Brahm Centre.

It was an afternoon of compassion, kindness and positive energy at the 10th anniversary celebration of Brahm Centre yesterday!
Founder Angie Chew started the Centre 10 years ago, after her own journey as a caregiver to her mother, who had dementia. Today, Brahm has grown from one to five centres, supporting their clients’ mental well-being and growing mindfulness in the community.
The excellent work that the Centre has done over the years is made possible by their committed team of staff and volunteers, as well as many generous donors. Met some of them at yesterday’s luncheon, and was inspired by their passion for serving the community, and the bonds that they have fostered over the years. Brahm has broadened their reach to support young people facing mental health challenges at the Youth Centre @ Newton, and will be setting up a second Youth Centre in Simei next year.
Congratulations on reaching this milestone and thank you for enabling happier and healthier lives in Singapore through living mindfully, with gratitude and empathy!
