Wonderful to hear that the Nanyang Girls' High School Chinese Calligraphy Club often holds classes for seniors at senior activity centres. Venassa Huang, one of the students from the club, passed me a calligraphy of my name. 谢谢!

Spent a sunny Saturday morning at Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park planting trees in support of our OneMilllionTrees Movement! Afterwards, I took a short walk to Eunoia Junior College, right next to the park, to launch our Clean & Green Singapore 2022 campaign.
A clean and green Singapore has always been a national priority, even in the early years of our independence. But this remains an evergreen mission, especially in the face of climate change. As individuals, there is a lot more that we can do — whether it is in reducing the waste we generate, stepping up our recycling efforts, or to even start ground-up projects. Am glad our students are doing their part — I was impressed to hear about the environmental projects by our students from Eunoia Junior College and Republic Polytechnic.
As we ride on the global green wave, there will also be opportunities in the green economy. I was happy to announce that Workforce Singapore - WSG will launch its first Career Conversion Programme for Sustainability Professionals.
Let’s all contribute towards an even cleaner and greener Singapore!

Watering a Pink Mempat (Cratoxylum formosum) tree which we planted at Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park. This is a popular tree in Singapore, often called the local version of the famous Sakura tree, famed for its beautiful light pink blossoms. Spot them when they bloom during the months of February and August.

Republic Polytechnic students shared how they surveyed the population and habitat of the locally endangered purple herons in Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park, and developed recommendations on conservation efforts.

Heard from the Eunoia Junior College Environment Club about their Hydroponics Project, and how they gained a greater appreciation of how vertical farming can help improve Singapore’s food security through this project. The vegetables were given to canteen stall holders after harvesting!

Chatted with some of our NParks Community in Bloom ambassadors. Glad to hear that this nationwide gardening movement, which brings together residents, young and old, to garden together in our City in Nature has gained good momentum.

We now have more than 1,800 community gardens across Singapore!

Yesterday was also the Environmental Services Workforce Day. These are our environmental services workforce, which include our cleaners as well as waste and pest management workers, who work tirelessly behind the scenes to keep Singapore clean and green. Congratulations on the Environmental Services Star Award and thank you for your hard work!

HSK wants to help youths reach their fullest potential.

Been decades since I last carried a gun as a Police officer. But I got a chance to do so again over the weekend at Bedok Police Division’s Youth Carnival!
This was one of many activities at the Carnival. We also launched ‘A Better Shot’ initiative to uplift primary school students from underprivileged families through mentoring and other activities.
I am glad to see many youths and their families enjoying themselves. The Carnival hopes to build a more inclusive society for our youths by promoting mental and physical wellbeing, and steering them away from crime.
Let’s all help our youths reach their fullest potential and shape the future of our nation!

Had a feel of the HK MP5 submachine gun that our Emergency Response Team (ERT) officers are equipped with. Our ERT officers are trained to respond to terror-related incidents in Singapore.

Launched A Better Shot (ABS) initiative! This initiative was piloted by the Bedok Police Division last year to uplift primary school students from underprivileged families within Tampines GRC. This was done through free tuition classes at the Tampines East Neighbourhood Police Post.

Heartened to hear that ABS has made a difference to young lives, and that Bedok Police Division intends to expand it to more areas in the East.

Had a great time at the carnival! Learned new things and it brought back good memories of my time with the SPF. I hope our youths found it useful too!

HSK launched Samwoh Smart Hub.

Samwoh Corporation is known for construction and maintenance of roads, and supplying building materials. But what has distinguished them is their commitment to sustainability and R&D. They are one of the pioneers who used recycled materials for paving our roads!
Samwoh Smart Hub, which I launched yesterday, similarly reflects this ethos. The building generates more energy than it consumes – it’s the first net positive building in Singapore! I hope more companies will continue to push the boundaries of sustainability in the built environment, so that we can build a more climate-friendly Singapore
