A Singaporean's guide to living in Thailand

Re: A Singaporean's guide to living in Thailand ? Feasible?

Just couldn't resist re-playing this (copy rights from other dark side forum):

Fool proof to validate katoey or not? Upper cut or low blow? So you know if cburifc reports to work with broken hand, or jaw even +555:eek: Kor tut, cburifc

note: The 'Arm' check is done by straightening the said lady's arm as much as possible. On a woman, her arm will straighten out and then kink to the side, guy's being more muscular tend not to be able to do this. Hence, the idea being a ladyboy's arms will only straighten as much as a normal guy's arm but not go the extra kink that a girl can.
The only sure way to tell an Ah Qua from a real woman is an Ah Qua always behave more womenly than a real women. :D

Don't believe me? Let's go walking street again. :)

Re: KLM to stop from TPE - BKK from 26 March 101

Grasshoppers is good but not for breakfast. The best breakfast I can think of now is the good chinatown porridge in Sinkeeland. Anyway, this one should be from MacD rite? Taiwan kia call this what?

Re: KLM to stop from TPE - BKK from 26 March 101

Mothers are always mothers. Even I almost 50 already, she still takes great effort to cook my favourite dishes for me tonight before I leave for Bangkok tomorrow afternoon.

Sigh makes me feel bad . . . . and sad too that there's not much time left to love her more
Aiseh. He Pio Soup (Fish Maw) cooked in traditional style is best. This one must go with lots of pepper. Siok. Second pic is Sotong balls right?

Hi melzp,

Hehehe. I not sure where can get crocodile meat in LOS but very sure they are available in LOS. Songkran is fun! FYI, Songkran in Pattaya is on 19 April instead of 13 April.

BTW, buaya in LOS is known as Jor Ra Kay. So for crocodile meat, just call it Nuea Jor Ra Kay.

Re: KLM to stop from TPE - BKK from 26 March 101

Just to recap.

I need a USB type of modem for my mobile internet. Does Bangkok sell such USB on a pre-paid basis ? NO, I don't have a mobile phone to go with it.

I need one that goes by hours, and not size of data transferred. Can I get it from 7/11 ? Or do I have to produce my passport to telco to apply for one ? Do they require work permit ?

You can buy from any phone related shops. Some have 2nd hand ones for sale as well.
You can also use one from Sinkieland or anywhere provided you have the APN (bro roti shared this before).
I know dtac has a pre paid data sim that's gives 5-6 hrs worth for 49 baht. (my info is half a year old).
No need ID unless buy from airport (airport always out stock for data SIM btw).

KYP, not sure you can get this from 7-11 (unlike top up credit). So you better off at telco shops in some Bkk mall. Not done USB thing before, but for my 1st AIS microsim data card I never had to prove my ancestry etc.

I'm no techie, but think you better off with smart phones which doesn't cost the earth. And (unbranded) palm
sized tablets (working on plain sim card, probably popular Android) is easy for both data and voice too.

Re: A Singaporean's guide to living in Thailand ? Feasible?

The temperature here is 12 degrees Celsius. mai wai mai wai.

I'm confused with the terminology used.

The term SIM reminds me of telephone. I don't want anything to do with my mobile phone. I want to keep my mobile phone simple, as I don't like the idea of re-learning how to use a new phone. The moment key in the word "SIM" the search engine will come with different plans which are meant for surfing net with mobile phones.

I want a "USB" device that will allow me to surf the Net anywhere with a laptop without any participation from mobile phone device. What is that thing called ? And do they have pre-paid "USB" modem ? Preferably an "unlimited prepaid $_____ per month".

You need to insert a data enabled SIM card into the USB modem
This SIM card can also be use to make phone calls if you insert it into your phone.
I hope my explanation is correct

This is the reason I always order Hindu (non-vege) meal whenever I book my TG tickets.

Bro, you fly Business Class ? How come can order food one ?

No la bro. Everywhere I go I travel cattle class.

TG and SQ same same whenever you book tickets by their website there is a box in the middle of the process that you tick to go to choose your seats and meals. Even if you book through an agent you could also call them and with your booking reference you can tell them to choose seats and meals too.

Its pre-order la.

That's called a mobile on broadband modem or a hsdpa access device. Huawei is one of the leading brands and many modems sold in sg are made by huawei. I have one myself. Yes you need a sim card cos this form of internet connection uses the 3.5G phone network to access the internet. In sg they sell broadband sim cards that cannot make calls but probably can send sms that you can use to get on a phone internet network. These sim cards have a phone number too but you won't be able to call them or make a call from them.

I'm sure it's the same thing in thailand.

Oh yes ! Thanks for the clarification.

But 3.5G network in Thailand ? Maybe not the entire of Thailand.

For those using FREE satellite dish in Thailand, if you're not on UBC, are you able to watch Barclay's Premier League ?
