SINGAPORE: About 1.5 million Singaporeans will receive S$850 (US$628) or S$450 in cash in August from the enhanced GST Voucher (GSTV) cash payout scheme.
This is part of an increased payout announced during Budget 2023 by then-Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Lawrence Wong.
Under the enhanced GSTV, eligible recipients will get an additional S$150 or S$100 as compared to last year depending on the annual value of their home, the Ministry of Finance (MOF) said on Thursday (Jul 4).
Adult Singaporeans with an assessable income of up to S$34,000 and living in homes with annual values of up to S$21,000 will receive S$850 while those whose homes with annual values of more than S$21,000 and up to S$25,000 will receive S$450.

In total, GSTV disbursement will amount to S$1.4 billion in cash payouts and Medisave top-ups - around S$200 million more than 2023, MOF said on Thursday.

MEDISAVE TOP-UPS

Around 650,000 eligible Singaporeans aged 65 and above will also have up to S$450 credited into the CPF MediSave Account in August, MOF said on Thursday.
Pioneer Generation seniors - those born on or before Dec 31, 1949, and became a Singapore citizen on or before Dec 31, 1986 - will already be receiving a round of MediSave top-ups totalling more than S$150 million this month.

ELIGIBILITY

The Finance Ministry said that eligible recipients of the cash and MediSave GSTV payouts will automatically receive the payments if they have signed up for government disbursement schemes.
Citizens may check their eligibility for the benefits at the govbenefits website - govbenefits.gov.sg - by logging in with their Singpass.
Those who have not previously signed up for the GSTV scheme can do so at the govbenefits website by Jul 9, as they will receive their payments in August.
Those who sign up after Jul 9 and by Jun 20, 2025 will receive their payments by the end of the following month.
Those who have not signed up previously will be notified by end-August 2024 via the Singpass app, SMS, or hardcopy letters sent to their NRIC address if they do not have Singpass app or a Singpass-registered mobile number, MOF said.
The MOF noted that since 2021, it has been using PayNow as the primary payment mode for citizens who have linked their NRIC to PayNow.
MOF said it encourages Singaporeans to link their NRIC to PayNow by Jul 22 if they have an account with one of the 12 participating banks in Singapore. By doing so, they can receive their 2024 GSTV in early August.
Those without PayNow-NRIC linked bank accounts can update their bank account information at the govbenefits website by Jul 26 to receive payment from Aug 12.

Citizens on GovCash, which has replaced cheques as a mode of payment, can withdraw the payment at OCBC ATMs islandwide from Aug 22. An OCBC bank account is not required for withdrawals, said MOF.
GovCash recipients may also use the LifeSG app to make payment to merchants by scanning their PayNow or NETS QR code, or transfer payments to their bank accounts via PayNow if they subsequently register for PayNow-NRIC.
Eligible citizens will be notified in August after the payments have been disbursed, either via their Singpass app inbox, said MOF.
Those who have not downloaded nor completed their one-time setup on the Singpass app but have registered their mobile numbers with Singpass will receive SMS notifications.

The more money they give, the worse the hyperinflation gets. Eventually it doesn't matter how much money you earn, as the prices of your basic necessities go through the roof.

That's the plan. That's the whole idea.

A little extra 'generosity' is understandable since election is looming.

PAP supporters are retards who believe skillsfuture courses can be used to get high paying jobs, in reality it's just a scam to allow all the fake training providers who are most likely PAP cronies to extract skillsfuture credits into their own pockets
it's grease to oil the machinery. Otherwise employment numbers will go down. Anything that is not transferable outside of Sg is just trash. I hear they are working on this now

Singapore schools are teaching obsolete syllabus instead of sending our people to take, for example those professional certificates for IT all done by AMDK, knn SG schools still stuck in 1990s technology, youtube all the real IT stuff is taught by people in Western countries here kosong

  • Those 1.5millon people are above 21.
  • It was cited in the article that we have 3.61million citizens, including children. Using this basis, I assume that about half of the households in Singapore fall into this category.
  • Using the same proportion, about half young adults will not be able to afford the cheapest median Home Singapore. They can only buy a 1-2 bedroom HDB, rent a HDB or stay with parents.

No wonder our young adults are not having more kids.
