SINGAPORE: The Workers' Party's candidate for Hougang, Mr Png Eng Huat, said he had decided not to be considered for the Non-Constituency MP (NCMP) post after last year's General Election (GE).

In an exclusive interview with Channel NewsAsia on Monday, Mr Png revealed he was against the NCMP scheme.
At a rally on Sunday night, Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean had asked the Workers' Party why it didn't send Mr Png to parliament as an NCMP when it had a chance to do so.

Mr Png said: "I actually took my name out of the ballot for the NCMP post. Because I have a personal stand against the NCMP scheme, so that's why my name wasn't in the ballot. So I don't think DPM knows all of these."

He is against a monthly allowance and the opportunity to speak up for Singaporeans in parliament? Even WP supporters have to shake their heads for this.

Hello... he did it on principles! He is against the NCMP scheme. He wants to get in the proper way. Not by the back door.

Png didn't have to answer that question. It was really up to the CEC to decide. Now PAP will fire more questions at him. Png indirectly revealed that the NCMP post given to GG was done via the process of balloting. PAP is now going to ask if Eric Tan's name was "in the ballot".

Yes agreed. PAP looking for a weakness to exploit.

WP should just ask PAP to revert all seats to SMC. Do away with the useless NMP and NCMP schemes. Fight cleanly. Tell PAP not to play dirty.

On the last day of the campaign, WP should turn the table on the PAP by challenging the dirty dogs to do away with the GRC scheme. Hougang is a single seat won in a straight clean fight and should be kept that way.

All contests to be made SMCs or be called cowards!

He got guts. Which PAP MP would tell old man, I don't want to be in your Cabinet/GRC?

Even a doggie such as stuffychute is here to pretend to be opposition. Doggie tell your old master to revert all seats as SMCs!

Yes, if PAP really cares about the best person filling the respective positions, then they should dismantle all the GRCs.

Png should have retorted, if he really felt there was need to reply, that he was not the best candidate for Hougang. By the same token, TCH is also not the best candidate for Pasir Ris Ponggol GRC because the GRCs and many other hurdles put up by the PAP are there to ensure that the best candidates would never be there for the job.

hahaha....this is a classic case of trying to dig out of a hole...
nothing is achieved and more questions will be raise....and the more you wriggle, the deeper the hole becums.

i think TCH asked a silly and bo liao question. Png can find all sort of reasons for not being considered a NCMP. against the scheme. work commitments. family reasons. gave way to Gerald Giam. all these reasons sound ok to me.

BRAVO!!!
no voting rights in Parliament equals no say in Parliament! voice being heard is enough? NO WAY! Voting rights when the bills come to pass is more important! otherwise the incumbent is flooding Singapore with too many immigrants.
BRAVO!!!

NCMP is a scam on democracy.
Is a tactic to take votes away from opposition.
NCMP has voice but no voting right!
You will not find any SM, MM, GRC or NCMP in any first world countries. Only unique to Singapore by PAP, they might as well have the trademark or copyright them!

Maybe Png should shock the pappies by saying he admits he is not the best candidate for the job. He is standing to prove to the ppl of sinkieland that he is fearless and has a heart for sinkies.

By standing, he hopes more capable and outstanding individuals will offer themselves as candidates for GE 2016. Definitely will score points and gain sympathy votes all round.
