You can see with your own eyes how rapidly traditional Chinese customs are dying out in Singapore,(Honestly speaking i kind of feel sad about it, Its important that The Singaporean Chinese keep their tradition strong)
Today, Most Chinese are ditching Taoist/Buddhism and becoming Catholics/Christians, You see less participation during 7 month etc.. Burning/Getai shows/Auction, You see most Chinese picking up on English names and most do not even know their History.
In fact, most Chinese are ditching religion. So the supposedly decline in Buddhism and Taoism is because they were of these religions to start off with. You can check the statistics. Buddhism is still the largest religion in Singapore.
As I have already mentioned, indigenous cultures are constantly evolving in the motherland. So which is culturally more pure? The culture in the motherland or the culture in the overseas enclaves which are influenced by many external cultures, keeping only the token customs and practices?
Most Singaporean Chinese have little interest and knowledge in Chinese history, philosophies, literature and art. Their culture has been diluted, definitely more so than the motherland.
When you talk to an educated mainland Chinese, from the topics, the contents of their conversation, you will realize the amount of Chinese culture that is there.
In Singapore, we only talk about cost of living, whether GBTB is worth that $Billion, or which GL Mei Mei is the most sexy. Even if we speak perfect Chinese, there is not much Chinese culture in there.
