SINGAPORE - A Singapore Airlines flight to Hong Kong was forced to turn back to Singapore on Friday after pilots received a warning about a problem with a cargo door, the flag-carrier said.

The Airbus A380 superjumbo, carrying 263 passengers, landed safely at Singapore's Changi airport, an airline spokesman said.

SIA A380 is configured to carry 471 pax ... on this flight, only 55 percent full.

i watch before one episode of air crash investigation, the cargo door pins got forced open midair from failure to lock properly, the door blew off from the air pressure and tremendous speed, explosive decompression, plane went bye bye.

Maybe all the seats already sold out, but the other 208 couldn't make it for their flight.

Everything is alright in Singapore, no need to worry too much about occupancy rates. ;)

Isnt using.the A380 for a HK route abit of an overkill? Thought it was meant for those USA or europe long haul flights.

I booked 4 seats for my great-grandparents. They love HK! Problem is, airline staff cant see and dont serve them.

Maybe the flight is enroute to the US , stopping at HK to pick up passengers:confused:

Personally I would prefer to fly with Eva because it is cheaper & they provide more leg room. I've given up on SIA.

SIA is the best airline in the world. I only fly on other airlines because they offer cheaper rates.

Cheers!

in my opinion, the a380 or anything as big is becoming less optimal for today's passenger loads and flight routes. it will go the way of luxury and pleasure niches....such as sleeper flights with personal cabins, luxury suites, in-flight casinos, in-flight nightclubs, ktv lounges, high class brothels, harem, spa, swimming pools, steam baths, massages, f*ckshop, etc.

due to extreme wealth flowing between east and west, there's a business case for that. using an a380 to compete with smaller, more efficient and more modern aircraft to maximize passenger loads and minimize fuel consumption on popular routes is like using a luxury cruise liner that can accommodate 3000 passengers to compete on routes frequented by ferries. it should be remodeled to ply like a luxury cruise liner of the skies, for the wealthy holidayer who's willing to pay an average usd5000 per pax so he or she can enjoy fine dining, gambling, spa and mind blowing sex in the sky while flying to a destination 12 hours away. :D

If long flight, those on board 'tharn teok.' Can lie horizontal to get good sleep.

Some may think that SIA is the bestest but one of the best flights that I have ever taken was with BA to London. The flight was so empty that the cabin crew spread the passengers around so that each passenger could sleep horizontally across 3 seats.

Unfortunately on the return flight back I flew SIA. It was packed.. I would rather fly in an empty flight than a world class airline like SIA

Some of the middle east airlines are going into this luxury route.

Emirates already have attached shower rooms for some of their flights.
Read somewhere Etihad will have a 2 or 3 bedroom suites with attached showers in some of their future new aircrafts.
Mile high club membership will soon be way easier, if you have the dough!

What to do? SIA had already ordered quite a lot of A380s. Never mind if A380s are infamous worldwide for being a little dodgy on safety issues.

Those who have played the video game Aerobiz would know. If you have already ordered plenty of planes, might as well use them across your routes rather than let them collect dust in the hangar. ;)

I once had 4 seats to myself. Approx 9 hrs in the plane. After dinner, slept!

Aiyoh! Tow peng la! Temasek should get SIA chaps to run our bus and mrt, and desmond to run sia.
