As Jean Beausejour wheeled away after his sweetly struck drive nestled in the bottom corner of the Australian net, there was a little more to the winger's celebrations than usual – and all because he had been there before.

The stoppage-time goal not only sealed the South Americans' 3-1 win to kick-start their Brazil 2014, it also wrote his name into the history books as the first Chilean to score in two different FIFA World Cup tournaments, having scored in the opening game of South Africa 2010 too. “I'm very happy to have achieved that. It's an amazing sensation I'm feeling right now,” the Wigan Athletic wide-man exclusively told FIFA.com.

England manager Roy Hodgson has revealed that Danny Welbeck will be fit to face Italy in their opening FIFA World Cup Group D game against Italy in Manaus on Saturday.

"Danny's fit," Hodgson said in his pre-match press conference at the Amazonia Arena. "I'm very fortunate that even after four weeks of preparation, the only player who isn't available for selection is Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. That we knew, so there can be no complaints on that score."

Time for England to GOD SAVE THE QUEEN !!!

I consider Australia as a semi-part of Asia, so the Socceroos and the rest of the Asian teams, please do not qualify for the knockout stage. Play your three games and fuck off from Brazil. Thank you.

When Steven Gerrard leads England out on to the dry surface of the Arena Amazonia on Saturday, he will be brimming with pride, and more importantly - he will be full of confidence that his men can beat Italy.

England have left no stone unturned in preparation for this Group D game. Sports scientists, video analysts, nutritionists and a world-renowned psychiatrist have been recruited to make sure England go into the game in the best condition possible.

Roy Hodgson and his 23-man squad have clocked up more than 12,000 miles travelling to Portugal, London and Miami to take part in friendlies against Peru, Honduras and Ecuador. Sweat pads, heat chambers, industrial fans and ice baths have been used to help the players be in the best physical shape when they step out into the sweltering Manaus heat.
