BS it's the usual BS to call out chinese for just behaving like everyone else.
It is an example of one of the confusion that a chinese name can create when dealing with ignorant angmos,
few of my indian friends: peter ponniah, Kenneth karupiah, Alvin anpalagam, steven suther, david dorai. another one is just simply called pei pundek
How come these shit skins don't get singled out for having ang moh names?
Why should the Chinese have to make things easy for the Ang Mohs?If they can't pronounce Chinese names, that is their problem not yours.

I don't see it as a case of kowtowing.
It is as simply a convenience. Rather then wasting time trying to make sure others get your full & proper name . Why not just make it simple for others by using a shorter name
It's really up to an individual to decide whether they want to do this. I am just giving my view as to the practical reasons of doing it.
Some of my angmo aquaintances have difficult names that's why people will use an abbreviated version of their names. People are not trying to insult them. Just trying to to make life easier.
You can of course insist that people only use your full name correctly. Whether or not others will listen is another matter.

Bud, I'm not the one objecting to Chinese blokes who adopt western names, its perfectly fine by me, its other Chinks that are offended by some Chinks adopting western names like John and James. To me, its just modernising. BTW, Lee Hsiao Long isn't any less Chinese when he calls himself Bruce is he?

Speaking of stage names many of these "ang moh" especially jewish celebrities have an anglo stage name that is very different from their original birth name. This is true for many jews who try to hide their jewishness. It's also the same for some ang mohs with horrible sounding names.
